The German Basketball Federation announced a 16-man squad for the World Cup Qualifiers games against Estonia in Tallinn and Poland in Bremen. The two matches will take place on June 30 and July 3, accordingly. The NBA guard Dennis Schroder headlines the roster. He spent the last season with the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets. In 64 games across both clubs, Schroder averaged 13.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.6 assists.

With NBA guard Dennis Schroder as the driving force, the German Basketball Association held a presentation in Berlin regarding the national team’s participation in the upcoming EuroBasket. “It’s a new opportunity to make basketball even bigger in Germany. Everyone is already fired up,” the Houston Rockets guard said on Wednesday during a press conference in the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Schroder will definitely be there in September and wants to persuade other NBA players to participate. He had already received a promise from Daniel Theis. “He said he was definitely up for it,” he said. Maxi Kleber (Dallas Mavericks) had told him he was in the mood, but had to look “how he feels” after an ankle injury. The two brothers hailing from Berlin, Moritz and Franz Wagner (both playing for the Orlando Magic), would probably also be available.

Bayern Munich’s Malik Tillman to switch allegiance from Germany to United States

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder made his first-team debut with Bayern this season

Bayern Munich teenager Malik Tillman has decided to play for the United States in the future, according to Germany Under-21 head coach Antonio Di Salvo.

Tillman, who turns 20 later this month, has represented Germany at various youth international levels, most recently appearing with the U-21 side in March.

The attacking midfielder, who is eligible for the USMNT through his American father, has also played for the U.S. as the U-15 level.

“We regret Malik’s decision and it surprised us very much,” Di Salvo said to Kicker. “We promoted him in the U-21s as a younger player, placed a lot of trust in him and gave him match practice. We were intensively involved in talks about his prospects up to the senior national team.”

Tillman’s time at Bayern Munich

Tillman, who was born in Nurnberg, has come up through the ranks at Bayern Munich, making his senior debut for the German giants this season.

Tillman made seven total appearances for Bayern’s senior side in 2021-22, while playing the majority of his time for Bayern’s reserves.

Breaking through at a club as strong as Bayern could prove a major challenge for Tillman. According to a report from SPORT1 last month, Bayern will look to loan Tillman out in the summer in order to provide more first-team minutes.

Tillman’s older brother Timothy plays at Greuther Fürth, which was just relegated from the Bundesliga. Timothy, like his brother, played for Germany at the youth level and is still eligible to switch to the U.S.

Panthers not playing in Germany, England or Mexico in 2022

The Panthers may have a game on German soil at some point, but it won’t be in 2022.

Even though the official release of the 2022 NFL schedule is still a week away, we definitely know one thing about where the Carolina Panthers are going—and it’s not abroad.

On Wednesday, the league officially announced its international serving of matchups for the upcoming season. Three of those will go down in London, England, one in Mexico City, Mexico and the other in Munich, Germany—which was of particular interest to the Panthers given their international marketing rights to the country.

But, they won’t have to break out the passports anytime soon, as Carolina wasn’t named to any of the games.

Instead, it’ll be the following clashes taking place on foreign soil:

  • Oct. 2: Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London)
  • Oct. 9: New York Giants vs. Green Bay Packers (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London)
  • Oct. 30: Denver Broncos vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (Wembley Stadium, London)
  • Nov. 13: Seattle Seahawks vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Allianz Arena, Munich)
  • Nov. 21: San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals (Aztec Stadium, Mexico City)

Well, at least Panthers fans won’t have to wake up at 9:30 a.m. ET on a Sunday this season.

How far will Seahawks have to fly for game vs. Bucs in Munich?

However, at least the Bucs won’t have much of an advantage in this department.

The Seahawks are in for one hell of a road trip later on this year. This morning the NFL announced that Seattle will be traveling to Munich, Germany for a game against the Buccaneers on November 13.

Kickoff time will be 6:30 a.m. PT, which is difficult enough. The players will also have to contend with a very long flight time – over 12 hours according to Google. However, at least the Bucs won’t have much of an advantage in this department. According to beat writer Greg Auman, Seattle’s squad will only be in the air for about half an hour longer than Tampa due to being much further north.

So, that’s encouraging.

Then again, the Bucs have a much better team on paper than the Seahawks heading into this season. We probably won’t get odds for the game until the week of but we’d be surprised if Tampa isn’t favored by a touchdown.

Chiefs won’t play in Germany, Mexico or England in 2022

The NFL officially announced its international slate of games for 2022 and the #Chiefs won’t be going abroad this year.

The Kansas City Chiefs will not be one of the teams playing the NFL’s first-ever game in Munich, Germany in 2022.

Germany is set to play host to four International Series games over the next four seasons, with the first game coming in 2022. It’s one of five international NFL games set to be played next season, with one to be played in Mexico and three in the United Kingdom.

The Chiefs were speculated as potential opponents for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the inaugural match set to take place at FC Bayern’s Allianz Arena. Both teams were awarded NFL international marketing right for Germany along with the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots. Whenever possible, the NFL intends to schedule international games so teams that hold marketing rights to particular countries can play in those countries.

On Wednesday morning the NFL announced its full slate of international games and the Chiefs won’t be playing in any of them.

While the Chiefs won’t be heading abroad this year, CEO and Chairman Clark Hunt expressed optimism during the 2022 NFL draft that the team would play an international series game in the next 2-3 years.

“The league will be playing a number of international games,” Hunt began. “I’m hopeful that we’ll be one of them. If we’re not selected this year, I think we’ll be selected in the next two or three years. Obviously, we would be excited to play in Germany if the opportunity presents itself.”

The NFL’s full schedule release will come in May, but one Chiefs game has already been revealed. The Chiefs will have their home opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2 of the regular season on Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime.

Panthers to announce Day 3 draft pick from Germany

The Panthers will have one of their picks on the third day of the 2022 draft announced from Munich, Germany.

Last year, former Carolina Panthers defensive end Kemp Rasmussen—as pictured in the featured image of this here post—announced the franchise’s second-round selection of wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. And for one of this year’s picks, they’ll be keeping a bit of that German flavor.

Per Ben Fischer of the Sports Business Journal, the Panthers will be one of three teams—along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs—to announce a third-day selection from Munich, Germany. This, of course, will help promote the organization’s presence in the country—to which they were granted International Marketing Area rights this past December.

As part of those rights, the Panthers will be permitted to connect with German fans—whether that be through holding watch parties and football camps as well as having access to the nation’s sponsors. The New England Patriots, Chiefs and Buccaneers—who will host the first NFL game on German soil this upcoming season—are also joining Carolina in this potentially prosperous endeavor.

Broncos won’t play in Mexico or Germany in 2022; London still possible

The Broncos won’t play in Mexico or Germany this fall, but they’re still a candidate to be a “road” team in England this season.

The Denver Broncos want to play a game in Mexico — their international home market — but the team won’t travel south for a game this season.

The NFL announced “home” teams for 2022 international games on Monday, and the Arizona Cardinals will be the “host” at Estadio Azteca this fall. The Broncos are scheduled to face the Cards this year, but at home, not on the road.

Denver won’t play in Germany this season, either. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been named the “home” team for the Munich game, and the Bucs are not among the Broncos’ 2022 opponents.

Traveling to England remains a possibility, though.

The New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars will “host” games in London this fall and while the Saints aren’t among Denver’s opponents, the Broncos are scheduled to face the Jags on the road this season.

That Denver-Jacksonville matchup could be a potential candidate for the Jaguars’ game at Wembley Stadium.

The Broncos were scheduled to play a “road” game in England against the Atlanta Falcons in 2020 but that game was moved stateside due to COVID-19. Denver now has a chance for a London game in 2022.

The NFL will announce the road teams for this year’s international games when the complete regular season schedule is released later this offseason.

NFL heading to Germany in 2022; could Cowboys make the trip?

America’s Team seems like a strong contender for the NFL’s first-ever game on the European mainland, but a trip to Mexico seems more likely. | From @ToddBrock24f7

In the immortal words of Hank Williams Jr. (but translated roughly by Google):

Bist du bereit für etwas Fußball?

The NFL is headed to Germany, as the league has announced plans to play a regular-season game in Munich for the first time next season. The game will expand the NFL’s International Series beyond London and Mexico City.

Five games are set to be played outside the United States in 2022, meaning ten teams will need to pack their passports along with their shoulder pads at some point. And while schedule info won’t be released for a while, the writing on the wall- in whatever language you choose- says the Cowboys could well be making an extra-long business trip in the coming year.

The newly-announced game is slated to be played at Allianz Arena, FC Bayern Munich’s stadium, a stunning facility that can seat up to 75,000 and has an exterior made of color-changing inflated plastic panels. While the 2022 event will be the first NFL regular-season game to be played in Germany, it won’t be the last; Munich and Frankfurt will share four games over the next four years.

Berlin hosted five NFL preseason games between 1990 and 1994; the Cowboys have never played there. And while it might be tempting to assume that the league might want to make a splash in their first-ever regular-season game on the European mainland by sending America’s Team, it’s more likely that the Cowboys will visit Mexico City in November 2022.

That’s because of the NFL’s International Home Marketing Areas initiative. As announced back in December, the Cowboys were one of 18 teams awarded a license to expand their marketing efforts into another country. Team owner Jerry Jones chose Mexico.

“We have a deep appreciation for our fans in Mexico, as their passion for the Cowboys has been felt from our preseason games played in both Mexico City [three times] and Monterrey [once],” Jones said at the time. “We’re always looking for ways to enhance engagement with our fans in Mexico and are grateful the league has recognized that the Cowboys are uniquely positioned to help grow the game of football in Mexico while growing our community of Cowboys fans.”

The new initiative doesn’t automatically lock the Cowboys into the Mexico City game (or out of an appearance in either London or Munich), but the NFL has said that teams would play in their designated international markets “where possible.”

The Panthers, Chiefs, Patriots, and Buccaneers were granted marketing access to Germany; of those, Carolina and Tampa Bay will have a ninth home game in 2022.  Dallas also plays an extra home date in 2022, meaning the league could assign the Cowboys to “host” an international game and still leave the club its usual eight gamedays in their own stadium.

Jones has already gone on record with a willingness to do just that.

In their only regular-season overseas appearance to date, the Cowboys beat the Jaguars 31-17 at London’s Wembley Stadium in 2014. Every NFL club except the Packers has played at least one international game. Jacksonville has played the most, eight. A resolution passed last year will require every team to play outside the U.S. at least once every eight years.

Of the three London games planned for 2022, the Saints will reportedly play host to an NFC South foe in one of them. Jacksonville is set as the designated home team for another. That’s three of six slots that the Cowboys won’t occupy.

Mexico City hosted one regular-season game in both 2016 and 2017; the scheduled Chiefs-Rams meeting in 2018 was moved to Los Angeles due to poor field conditions at Estadio Azteca. The Chiefs and Chargers played there again during the 2019 season, but the NFL has not been back since.

The league has sited preseason games in Mexico as early as 1978, although a planned 1968 match between the Lions and Eagles was scrapped by Mexican officials, reportedly due to civil unrest in the capital city. The Cowboys played south of the border in 1994, 1996, 1998, and 2001. All were preseason tilts.

It’s a guessing game as to which of the Cowboys’ 2022 home opponents they might face in a possible return to Mexico. It’s hard to imagine the league placing a high-profile NFC East divisional game in a foreign country, so that would rule out the Eagles, Giants, and Commanders. There’s the Bears, Lions, or Colts; those aren’t exactly needle-moving matchups, but the International Series games often feature odd pairings. The Buccaneers would be an anticipated showdown even without Tom Brady, but as mentioned earlier, Tampa Bay could be a strong contender to play the first game in Munich. Cowboys-Bengals will be a huge draw no matter how Cincinnati fares in Super Bowl LVI; that game has primetime TV written all over it and may be too big a ratings bonanza for the league to send outside the country. The Texans have a sizable fanbase in Mexico; they’re also linked to the country in the International Home Marketing Areas initiative; the league could double down with a two-fer with the Cowboys in 2022 or save Houston as the home team for a future Mexico date.

No one can say until schedule details start to come out. Jerry could end up getting all nine of 2022’s home gamedays in Arlington. Or the Cowboys could play a regular-season date in Mexico, in London, or maybe the first game ever in Germany.

But in the long nothingness that is the offseason, it’s wunderbar to think about all the far-flung possibilities.
