Georgia State vs ULM Game Preview

Why Georgia State Will Win

It might have been a rough 1-4 start for the Panthers, but the win over Charlotte was solid and the four losses were all more than acceptable vs. Army, North Carolina, Auburn, and Appalachian State.

They have the playmakers on offense to finally breakout, and they have the experience on the other side to stuff a ULM offense that’s the worst in the nation at converting on third downs.

ULM is also last in the nation in total offense – it has yet to come up with 300 yards in any game, but …

Week 6 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why ULM Will Win

The Warhawks are finding ways to be competitive.

Forget the losses to Kentucky and Coastal Carolina – those are two elite teams there were no-chance games for ULM. The team is great when it comes to turnover margin, the run defense has been able to hold up, and it’s No. 1in the nation in fewest penalties.

Terry Bowden is coaching the heck out of this team.

Georgia State has a turnover margin issue – ULM has to be a +2 to be in this.

Week 6 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Georgia State has to keep the mistakes to a minimum. It turned it over multiple times in three of the five games and lost all three.

ULM won’t have enough offense, though, to keep up. Again, this is one of the few games so far that’s in the Georgia State wheelhouse, and it’ll take advantage with a solid day offensively and a big performance from the defensive front.

Looking at the Auburn running back workload

Here’s what the running back situation looks like with Shivers back.

Shaun Shivers has returned.

After missing two games, freshman running back Jarquez Hunter has emerged as a guy that Auburn fans want to see get the football.

Through the first half as seeing all three of them be available against Georgia State, the rotation and touches may look different than some expected.

The offense struggled in the first half against the Panthers but the running backs were the bright spot.

Tank Bigsby is the clear top man in the stable of backs but both Shivers and Hunter got touches in creative ways.

Shivers received the ball through a jet sweep and Hunter registered some yards through the air in the first half.

Bigbsy ran the ball 11 times for 40 yards. He had one catch for five yards.

Hunter got three handoffs for 33 yards. He also caught two passes for six yards.

Shivers ran the ball twice in the first half for 29 yards. He also caught a pass in his return to the field for three yards.

So the total breakdown for touches is:

Bigsby – 12 touches

Hunter – Five touches

Shivers – Three touches

Owen Pappoe not expected to play Saturday vs Georgia State

Here’s an update on Owen Pappoe.

Auburn, as expected, will be without one of its best defenders Saturday.

Auburn linebacker Owen Pappoe has been questionable all week and is not warming up with Auburn’s linebackers in pregame warmups leading up to their contest with Georgia State.

Reports came out that Pappoe was seen wearing a boot throughout the week after suffering an injury against Penn State.

Auburn will also be without linebacker Zakoby McClain for the first half as he was called for a targeting call last week.

Auburn fans react to game day vs Georgia State

WAKE UP IT’S GAME DAY.

Another week and Auburn football game days are back on The Plains.

The Tigers host the Georgia State Panthers for the first time ever and Saturday is also Auburn’s 2021 Homecoming game.

This will be Bryan Harsin’s last nonconference opponent before taking on a gauntlet of a schedule in the SEC. It will be fun to see how they use the final nonconference game as an opportunity to tune up some things before heading to Baton Rouge to play LSU next week.

Auburn fans went to Twitter to show their excitement for game day on THe Plains.

Bryan Harsin updates injury status of Shaun Shivers, Owen Pappoe

Here is an update on Shaun Shivers and Owen Pappoe.

Auburn will get one veteran player back Saturday but may lose another.

Bryan Harsin said on the weekly SEC coaches teleconference that running back Shaun Shivers returned to practice Tuesday after missing the past two games, but linebacker Owen Pappoe has been limited in practice after suffering an injury against Penn State.

“It’s been really good to have him back,” Harsin said of Shivers. “He’s an energy guy; he’s a vibe guy as far as practice goes. … I thought that was a good pick-me-up yesterday having him out there.”

Shivers had two touchdowns on three carries in the win over Akron but has not played since.

Pappoe, a team captain, exited the Penn State game in the second half and didn’t return.

“Owen is doing some things (in practice) right now,” Harsin said. “We still have practice later today, so we’ll see where he’s at and how many reps he’s able to get and what type of work.”

Zakoby McClain, Auburn’s other starting linebacker,  will be unable to play in the first half of the game against Georgia State after being ejected for targeting in the second half against Penn State.

Chandler Wooten had a career day in their absences, finishing with 10 tackles and will serve an even bigger role if Pappoe is limited.

Former Clemson, Georgia State guard Taylor Hosendove coming to Oregon

Ducks head coach manages to pick up an experienced guard in former Clemson Tiger and Georgia State Panther Taylor Hosendove.

Transfers leave and transfers arrive. This time for Kelly Graves’ women’s basketball program, they’re beginning to arrive.

A day after losing 6-foot-4 Angela Dugalic to UCLA, the Ducks can look forward to some reinforcements. Former Clemson and Georgia State guard Taylor Hosendove has announced that she is coming to Eugene on her Instagram page.

Hosendove led Georgia State in scoring and rebounding last season, averaging 12.5 points and 8.8 rebounds in 24 games. In her first season in Atlanta, the Los Angeles native scored 11.4 points and pulled down 8.9 rebounds per game.

As a freshman at Clemson, the Los Angeles native played sparingly as a Tiger, but she did have her moments, including seven rebounds against Tennessee and scoring 11 points against Illinois.

At Oregon, Hosedove will most likely add backcourt depth for a team that is desperate for experienced guard play. Right now, the Ducks have just four guards on the roster with three of them having just one year of college under their belt and incoming freshman Taylor Bigby in the program so far.

Look for Graves to pick up one or two more transfers or junior college talent to fill out a roster that has just nine players on it so far.

Rucker gave UT a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning, extending the Vols’ advantage to 3-0 with a two-run homer in the third.

With the loss, the Panthers dropped to 4-9 on the season.

On the mound, Elijah Pleasants pitched 2.1 innings of relief to pick up his second win of the season.

Tennessee wins series opener against Georgia State

Recapping UT’s win over Georgia State Friday night.

Liam Spence had a big bat Friday night and Tennessee took advantage of miscues from Georgia State, claiming victory over the Panthers.

Pitcher Will Heflin also helped the Vols notch a 6-1 victory at Lindsey Nelson Stadium Friday night.

Spence went 2-for-5, drove in two runs and scored another, to lead No. 17 Tennessee’s offensive attack. He also recorded one stolen base against Georgia State (4-7), which committed three errors in the contest.

Spence came home with the game’s first run in the bottom of the opening frame when Georgia State pitcher Ryan Watson was called for a balk.

Jordan Beck extended UT’s advantage to 2-0 when his sacrifice fly plated Pete Derkay for the Vols (9-2).

In the second inning, Beck made it 3-0 when he picked up an RBI as he reached on a fielder’s choice. Spence had an RBI single in the sixth and Derkay drove in another run with a groundout to give Tennessee a 6-0 lead.

Georgia State scored when Josh Smith hit a solo home run in the seventh.
