Dominic Lovett has the ability to contribute right away…

Former Missouri receiver Dominic Lovett joined Georgia this offseason as one of the top transfer portal additions in college football.

Georgia’s Glenn Schumann staying with Bulldogs after NFL interview

UGA Co-DC to remain in Athens…

Georgia co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann will remain with Georgia football after interviewing with the Philadelphia Eagles for their vacant defensive coordinator last week, according to a report from ESPN.

Schumann, who also coaches inside linebackers, will return along side co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp for the pair’s second season calling the Georgia defense.

The NFL has taken notice of the Bulldogs recent success after back-to-back national titles.

The Baltimore Ravens recently hired former offensive coordinator Todd Monken in the same capacity after three seasons in Athens.

It seems that it will be only a matter of time before Schumann takes the next step. The former Alabama assistant is one of two remaining original assistant coaches who were hired by head coach Kirby Smart when he began his tenure at Georgia in 2016. The other is running backs coach Dell McGee.

Former Georgia Bulldog Chris Kirk wins PGA’s Honda Classic in dramatic fashion

Former Dawg Chris Kirk’s first PGA win in almost 8 years comes at The Honda Classic…

Former Georgia Bulldog Chris Kirk is a winner on the PGA Tour again for the first time in nearly eight years with a victory at The Honda Classic.

Kirk entered Sunday’s final round at 13-under par with a two-stroke lead over rookie Eric Coal and maintained a one-stroke lead until his third shot at the 18th hole found the water.

Cole took advantage of the mistake and forced a playoff at the 18th hole.  Kirk’s clutch second shot almost found the cup and led to a tap-in birdie for his fifth PGA Tour win.

Cole was this close to forcing another playoff hole.

Kirk’s win is the 40th PGA Tour win by a former Georgia Bulldog who played under UGA golf coach Chris Haack.

Kirk has secured a spot in the 2023 Masters with the win and moves up to sixth place in FedEx Cup points standings.

Christopher Smith’s NFL draft profile

Here’s a look at Georgia safety Christopher Smith’s NFL draft profile…

Former Georgia safety Christopher Smith is one of 13 Bulldogs preparing for the 2023 NFL draft.

Smith was an integral part of Georgia’s star-studded defense in back-to-back national championship seasons.

The 2022 All-American is currently ranked as the No. 6 safety according to ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper jr.

NFL.com recently released Smith’s detailed draft profile ahead of the NFL Combine that is set to begin on Feb. 28.

Overview: Undersized free safety with the athletic ability and toughness to eventually compete for a starting spot. Smith has man-cover talent and range to play over the top, but he was often more effective attacking downhill on routes underneath and stopping plays. He’s willing in run support but tackling big backs could be an issue. Despite his limited size, his reliability in coverage is a big advantage against today’s offensive attacks.

Strengths: Hard worker with a history of success. Ready to rush into the alley and slow outside run. Able to alter track to mirror runner’s movement in pursuit. Recorded six interceptions over the last two years.

Weaknesses: Smallish frame for an aggressive safety. Slows feet and catches the collision in open field. Needs to play with better eye balance from off-man. Average chase burst at the top of the route.

Daugherty included Georgia among his top schools before he committed to LSU in June of 2022. North Carolina, Oregon, Kentucky, Auburn, Louisville and USC were also in the mix.

The 5-foot-11, 174 pound safety was rated as the No. 52 safety and the No. 54 player in the state of Georgia in the 2023 class, per 247Sports.

Nolan Smith’s NFL draft profile

Here’s a look at Georgia edge Nolan Smith’s NFL draft profile…

Former Georgia outside linebacker Nolan Smith is one of the top defenders in this year’s NFL draft, despite missing a large chunk of the 2022 season due to a pectoral tear.

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. currently has Smith rated among prospects as the No. 5 outside linebacker.

Here’s a look at NFL.com’s detailed draft profile for Smith ahead of the NFL Combine that will begin on Feb. 28. in Indianapolis.

NFL comparison: Samson Ebukam

Overview: Lower weight class edge defender with the toughness to mix it up with bigger players. Based purely upon his sleek but smallish frame, one might expect him to be more effective as a rusher than run defender but the opposite is true. Smith is hard to move off of his spot due to his technique and leverage, and he can be disruptive when firing into gaps. He can get off the mark as a rusher, but lacks the counters and contact balance to consistently assault the pocket at a high rate. Smith falls below the size standards some team might have for a 3-4 outside linebacker, but he plays team-first defense with quality technique that should help him translate to the pros.

Strengths: Plays with a team-first mindset and plus toughness. Attacks pulling blocks. First with hands to separate and stay ready. Rare point of attack leverage strength for his size.

Weaknesses: Slender through waist and hips, with a need for more mass. Unable to generate speed-to-power conversion. Rush plan can be monotonous and lacking counters. Squared up punch from tackle can derail his pass rush.

Sources tell us: “You worry about him holding up for 17 games with his size. I’m not worried about the toughness, but I just don’t know if he can carry more weight without it slowing him down.” — National scout for NFC team

Former Georgia WR led all NFL rookies in this stat

George Pickens had a better rookie season than you may realize…

Former Georgia wide receiver George Pickens put together a solid rookie season for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022.

The 11th receiver taken in the 2022 NFL draft, Pickens made an immediate impact for the Steelers, despite inconsistencies at quarterback.

The Hoover, Ala., native hauled in 52 passes for 801 yards and four touchdowns.

Pro Football Focus credited Pickens with 16 catches of 20 or more yards, which is nine more than any other first-year pro.

Catches like these make Pickens almost impossible to cover.

An ACL injury hampered Pickens’ final season in Athens after a hot start to his Georgia career.

In three seasons as a Bulldog, Pickens caught 90 passes for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns.

If the Steelers find their answer at quarterback, Pickens should be a star for seasons to come.

RGIII predicts Stetson Bennett to Baltimore Ravens

Bennett would reunite with former Georgia OC Todd Monken…

The Baltimore Ravens have a decision to make with star quarterback Lamar Jackson this offseason.

Jackson can either be extended with a new contract, be placed on a franchise tag or be traded.

ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III mentioned former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett as a potential move for the Ravens in the upcoming NFL draft as insurance for Jackson.

The move would reunite Bennett with new Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

“My bold prediction is that the Baltimore Ravens select Stetson Bennett in the NFL draft. Lamar Jackson is unsure if he is going to be there in the offseason with the franchise tag. You bring in a quarterback who is very familiar with Todd Monken because he was just his OC with the Georgia Bulldogs in back-to-back national championships. Bennett can help teach the offense to these guys and if Lamar is not there at the beginning of the season, Bennett could be your guy of the future.”

Bennett is ranked by draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. as the No. 9 quarterback among draft prospects.

The former walk-on leaves an inspiring legacy behind in Athens as a two-time national champion and the most decorated player in College Football Playoffs history.

Bennett’s cool demeanor, knowledge of Monken’s system and ability to use his feet could create value in Baltimore.

Bennett will have an opportunity to show his athleticism and skills in front of NFL teams at the NFL combine beginning Feb. 28.
