Georgia baseball’s historic season came to a heartbreaking ending on Monday, June 11. The Bulldogs fell, 8-5, in Game 3 of the Athens Super Regional to the NC State Wolfpack.

Georgia got out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning thanks to a Tre Phelps home run, but was unable to hold down NC State’s explosive offense. Georgia stayed within striking distance until NC State added a pair of runs to go up 8-4 in the eighth inning. The Bulldogs scored one run in the ninth thanks to a Charlie Condon home run, but were unable to complete a miracle comeback.

Georgia finishes the season 43-17 in the first year under manager Wes Johnson. The Bulldogs have a lot of momentum going heading into the 2025 college baseball season, but are expected to lost Charlie Condon to the 2024 MLB draft.

Georgia is bringing in numerous elite transfers this offseason and should be competitive in the SEC next year. NC State advances to the Wolfpack’s first College World Series since 2021. Here are the best photos from the Athens Super Regional.

Bulldogs bounce back, beat NC State to force game 3

Georgia baseball responded to Game 1’s loss with a winning effort to force a Monday elimination matchup with the Wolfpack.

After a lopsided 18-1 loss in Game 1 on Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs responded well in an elimination game on Sunday, winning 11-2 to force a third game to decide the series against the NC State Wolfpack.

The Bulldogs took an early lead off of a Slate Alford two-run homer in the first inning, and designated hitter Tre Phelps extended the lead with a three-run homer in the third inning. The Bulldogs led 9-0 at the conclusion of the sixth inning before splitting one run innings in the seventh and eighth with the Wolfpack to get to the 11-2 final score.

Leighton Finley had a fantastic game pitching, only giving up one earned run through almost seven innings for the Bulldogs. The Wolfpack’s Dominic Fritton would fare worse, giving up seven runs in three innings.

The teams will meet in a third and final game to determine which of them will make it to Omaha. The game time and TV network have yet to be announced.

After a great comeback victory against Georgia Tech to advance to the super regionals, the Georgia Bulldogs baseball team saw a much different result play out on Saturday. Playing host to the NC State Wolfpack, the Bulldogs were demolished in every facet of the game, leading to an 18-1 defeat leaving Georgia with an elimination game on Sunday.

After a scoreless first inning, disaster struck for the Bulldogs in the second, as the Wolfpack had an incredible 11 run inning that saw them have ten consecutive batters reach base, nine with hits off of starting pitcher Kolten Smith, who was pulled in the second inning.

The Wolfpack would score one run in the next two innings, but Georgia’s batters were stifled entirely until the fifth inning, with a Corey Collins RBI single that put the score at 13-1 in favor of the Wolfpack. NC State would get five more runs en route to the 18-1 final that is the most lopsided in Georgia’s postseason history.

The Bulldogs and Wolfpack will rematch for a second game on Sunday at 12:00 E.T. on ESPNU. The Bulldogs must win in order to force a game three on Monday, or else the Wolfpack will advance to Omaha.

The No. 7 national seed Georgia Bulldogs will host the No. 10 national seed NC State Wolfpack in the Athens Super Regional with a trip to the College World Series on the line.

Game 1 of the Athens Super Regional is scheduled for noon ET on Saturday, June 8. The Georgia-NC State game will be televised on ESPNU. Game 2 will also be televised on ESPNU and will be held at noon ET on Sunday, June 9. Game 3’s television and first-pitch time (if necessary) is to be determined, but would be slated for Monday, June 10.

Tickets for the Athens Super Regional are now on sale. Georgia is currently 42-15 and went a perfect 3-0 in the Athens Regional. The Bulldogs hosts NC State, who went undefeated in the Raleigh Regional and is 36-20 this season, the Wolfpack are one of the best teams in the ACC.

NC State went an impressive 18-11 in the ACC. However, the Wolfpack went just 7-12 on the road, so Georgia, who is 32-5 at home, has a big advantage entering the NC State series.

NC State star Alex Makarewicz, who has a team-high 20 home runs, is a player to watch for the Wolfpack. Georgia third baseman Charlie Condon leads the nation in home runs and batting average and leads a potent Georgia offense.

Yet another member of the Bennett family will be joining University of Georgia athletics. On Sunday afternoon, Knox Bennett announced his intention to join the Bulldogs’ baseball team as a walk-on, the same path taken by his brothers Stetson and Luke on the football team.

Knox Bennett is listed at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, and is originally from Blackshear, Georgia. Bennett arrives after spending the last two years playing both first and third baseman at Chipola College. He hit .350 and had three home runners and 21 RBIs this past season.

He will join a Georgia baseball team that is having its strongest statistical season since 2019 and currently competing in the NCAA regional tournament.

His brother Luke as previously mentioned plays on the football team as a wide receiver and played in the Orange Bowl for his first action on the field a year ago. Stetson is entering his first official year in the NFL after missing all of last season due to a mental health related absence.

The No. 7 national seed Georgia Bulldogs will play the No. 10 national seed NC State Wolfpack in the super regionals of the NCAA Tournament. Georgia will host NC State in a three game series over the weekend of June 7-10.

In 10 starts this season, NC State pitcher Ryan Marohn has a 3.60 ERA and is 4-2. He has allowed just five home runs all season. As a team, NC State has the No. 15 RPI in the country and has more than enough firepower to keep pace with Georgia’s elite hitters.

The Georgia Bulldogs used some timely, clutch hitting and pitching to knock off the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Georgia baseball’s 8-6 win over Georgia Tech in extra innings means that the Dawgs are advancing to the super regionals!

Georgia went 3-0 in the Athens Regional. The Dawgs showed grit throughout the regional and including a three-run comeback to defeat Georgia Tech. Georgia got revenge against the Yellow Jackets, who controversially cancelled a game against Georgia earlier this season.

Tre Phelps and Kolby Branch both hit home runs in Georgia’s win over Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs are on a roll entering the super regionals. Corey Collins had a clutch two-run double in extra innings to give Georgia some breathing room. Georgia Tech managed a run in the bottom of the 10th inning, but could not do any more damage.

Georgia will host the NC State Wolfpack, who are the No. 10 national seed, in the Athens Super Regional. Georgia is the No. 7 national seed. The winner of Georgia-NC State will advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

UGA baseball is slated to face Georgia Tech in the Athens Regional final on Sunday

The Georgia Bulldogs will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the regional final. Georgia is 2-0 in the Athens Regional and just has to beat the Yellow Jackets once to advance to the super regionals.

Georgia Tech has one loss and needs to beat Georgia twice in a row to advance out of the Athens Regional. Georgia is 2-0 against Georgia Tech this season and was on its way to beating the Yellow Jackets a third time, but Georgia Tech ended the game due to weather.

Georgia Tech eliminated UNC Wilmington earlier on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets won 3-1 after patiently waiting through a rain delay.

The Georgia-Georgia Tech game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET and will be played at Foley Field. Georgia would host a super regional if the Bulldogs can win in one (or two) games against Georgia Tech.

Georgia’s pitching staff got some rest in the Dawgs’ 11-2 win over UNC Wilmington yesterday. “Saving some additional bullets for tomorrow was big,” said Georgia baseball coach Wes Johnson.

The Georgia Bulldogs topped the UNC Wilmington Seahawks in a 11-2 victory to remain on the winner’s side of the bracket in the Athens Regional. Georgia is 2-0 to start the regional with wins over Army and UNC Wilmington.

Georgia infielder Kolby Branch hit a historic grand slam in the second inning. Branch’s grand slam was hit fourth of the season, which is the most in any individual season in Georgia baseball history.

“When Corey (Collins) can set the tone like that, it’s good to see,” said Kolby Branch on Corey Collins, who opened the game with a solo home run. “He steps up there and, he’s done it too many times this season, the way he gets on the line and just lights the room up and makes everyone calm down just a tad. It’s good to see.”

Georgia’s pitching staff held UNC Wilmington in check. The Bulldogs got a decent start from Kolten Smith who allowed two runs and four hits over four innings. Smith struggled with control and walked six batters.

Georgia’s win over UNC Wilmington brings the Bulldogs one step closer to advancing out of the Athens Regional. Georgia will play against the winner of Game 5 of the Athens Regional between Georgia Tech and UNC Wilmington on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET. The regional final will be televised on ESPN+.

The No. 7 national seed Georgia Bulldogs survived a scare from the Army Black Knights in Game 1 of the Athens Regional. Georgia used some timely pitching and a clutch sacrifice fly from Fernando Gonzalez to defeat Army.

Georgia’s 8-7 win over Army means that the Bulldogs will play tomorrow against the winner of tonight’s game between Georgia Tech and UNC Wilmington (Game 2). The winner of Game 2 will play against Georgia on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. ET. The loser of Game 2 will face Army in an elimination game on Saturday at noon ET.

Georgia’s win positions the Bulldogs in a much better spot to advance out of the Athens Regional. Georgia has to pitch better tomorrow to win.

Georgia star Charlie Condon added another home run against Army. Slate Alford stepped up for Georgia as well. Alford finished the afternoon with three hits and three RBIs.

Georgia pitcher Christian Mracna closed the door on Army. He allowed the Black Knights to have several base runners, but got Georgia out of a pair of difficult situations in pressure moments.
