Former Tennessee offensive lineman announces transfer destination.

Tennessee offensive lineman James Parsons entered the NCAA transfer portal on June 7.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound redshirt sophomore announced his decision on Twitter.

“First, I would like to say thank you to the coaches I’ve had here at the University of Tennessee for helping me grow as a player and as a person,” Parsons said. “Thanks to everyone I’ve played with these last two years, I enjoyed working with all of you.

“Secondly, thank you to my friends, family, and academic staff, I wish you all the best moving forward. With that being said, I have officially entered my name in the NCAA transfer portal.”

Parsons announced his transfer destination on Tuesday. He will play for Gardner-Webb and head coach Tre Lamb.

Jaida Thomas leads Lady Vols past Gardner-Webb

Lady Vols defeat Runnin’ Bulldogs on soccer pitch, 6-0.

A hat trick from redshirt freshman forward Jada Thomas helped the Lady Vols open the spring portion of its soccer season on a winning note Sunday.

Thomas tallied in the 11th, 12th and 26th minute to help the Lady Vols (5-4-1) post a 6-0 victory over Gardner-Webb at Regal Soccer Stadium.

Thomas, who scored three goals during the fall, doubled her offensive production with her performance on Valentine’s Day against the Runnin’ Bulldogs in the first-ever meeting on the pitch between the two sides.

UT also received goals from Abbey Burdette, which gave the Big Orange a 1-0 lead in the second minute on a marker assisted by Isabella Cook and Hannah Tillett.

Tillett also picked up a helper on the Lady Vols’ fifth tally, which was scored by Giselle Washington in less than two minutes after Thomas completed her hat trick.

Mackenzie George had one goal and an assist during the match. Tara Katz also recorded one assist for the Lady Vols.

UT goalkeeper Lindsey Pomig made two saves en route to posting a shutout.

UT soccer to open spring season against Gardner-Webb

Lady Vols to open soccer season on Valentine’s Day against Gardner-Webb.

The University of Tennessee soccer team will open its spring schedule at home against Garder-Webb on Valentine’s Day.

Lady Vols’ head coach Brian Pensky has added the game against the Runnin’ Bulldogs.

The match is slated for Feb. 14 at Regal Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is 4 p.m. EST.

It will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides on the pitch.

Gardner-Webb, which went 10-11-1 in 2019, saw its season end in the Big South championship game when it lost to Radford.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs were picked to finish fourth in the Big South’s preseason coaches poll.

The Lady Vols are are 8-0-1 all-time against current members of the Big South Conference.

Tre Lamb is set to launch his head coaching career.

Tre Lamb is set to launch his head coaching career Feb. 27.

He was hired as Gardner–Webb’s head coach in Dec. 2019. The coronavirus pandemic postponed a fall season to this spring.

Lamb comes to Gardner–Webb from Tennessee Tech as offensive coordinator. He served as quarterbacks coach at Mercer from 2014-17 and in the same capacity at Tennessee Tech in 2013.

He played quarterback at Tennessee Tech from 2008-12 for head coach Watson Brown.

Lamb joined the show “Tennessee Two-A-Days” ahead of the 2021 spring season. He discussed assembling his first coaching staff and offensive philosophies.

“We’re Air Raid passing game,” Lamb said. “Air Raid principles with an inside power-running game. I do believe you got to run the ball to win games in certain situations. All our passing game is Air Raid principles.

“If you want to compare our offense to somebody, it probably would be a hybrid between Appalachian State and Central Florida. Those are two teams we study the most. I like the outside zone play that App. State runs and I like the way Central Florida formations you and throws the ball down the field. Those are the two teams we watch the most and cater our offense to our players.”
