Predictions for Oklahoma Sooners vs. South Carolina Gamecocks

The Oklahoma Sooners take on the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday and here are Sooners Wire Staff’s predictions.

To say a game in week eight is a must-win feels weird, but at the midway point of the season, sitting at 4-2 and with their remaining schedule, the Oklahoma Sooners have a tough road ahead.

The South Carolina Gamecocks are a tough matchup for anyone. Just ask LSU and Alabama. Shane Beamer’s squad lost two really close games to the SEC titans by a combined five points. Sure, this year’s Bama team isn’t the same as the Nick Saban squads from year’s past, but they’re still a talented team.

The Gamecocks boast one of the more impressive defensive end duos in college football with Kyle Kennard and Dylan Stewart. They’re long, athletic, and disruptive. Along with an athletic and aggressive secondary, the Gamecocks will pose a difficult challenge for the Sooners offense and true freshman quarterback [autotag]Michael Hawkins Jr[/autotag].

Offensively, the Gamecocks are a bit of a roller coaster, riding the arm and legs of first-year starter LaNorris Sellers. Though only a three-star prospect coming out of high school, Sellers sat for a year behind Spencer Rattler and has a high ceiling because of a strong arm and great athleticism.

This has a chance to be another thriller in SEC play and there’s no telling how the game could go. But our staff here at Sooners Wire shared their thoughts on how Oklahoma’s first matchup ever with the Gamecocks will go.

Predicting every game on Patriots’ 2024 schedule

What record will the Patriots finish with in 2024?

The New England Patriots will kick-start the 2024 season with a road showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

It’s the first game on a hellacious schedule that pits the new-look Patriots team against a bevy of future playoff contenders. The lack of enthusiasm regarding regular-season wins has more to do with the opponents than anything else.

Sure, the offense isn’t completely up to speed, but Jacoby Brissett is more than serviceable as a starting quarterback. The Patriots are live underdogs in most games if they lean on their defense and avoid costly penalties and turnovers.

There’s hope for a brighter future when rookie quarterback Drake Maye gets going, but we’re going to look at this schedule with the expectation that Brissett will be in the driver’s seat for the entire season.

Here’s a prediction for every game on the schedule:

Week Date Opponent Time (ET) Prediction (W/L)
1 Sept. 8 at Bengals 1:00 p.m. L
2 Sept. 15 vs. Seahawks 1:00 p.m. W
3 *Sept. 19 at Jets 8:15 p.m. L
4 Sept. 29 at 49ers 4:05 p.m. L
5 Oct. 6 vs. Dolphins 1:00 p.m. L
6 Oct. 13 vs. Texans 1:00 p.m. L
7 Oct. 20 at Jaguars 9:30 a.m. W
8 Oct. 27 vs. Jets 1:00 p.m. L
9 Nov. 3 at Titans 1:00 p.m. W
10 Nov. 10 at Bears 1:00 p.m. L
11 Nov. 17 vs. Rams 1:00 p.m. L
12 Nov. 24 at Dolphins 1:00 p.m. L
13 Dec. 1 vs. Colts 1:00 p.m. W
14 BYE
15 Dec. 15 at Cardinals 4:25 p.m. W
16 Dec. 22 at Bills 1:00 p.m. L
17 TBD vs. Chargers TBD L
18 TBD vs. Bills TBD W (6-11 record)

*prime-time game

I have the Patriots winning six games, which is an obvious improvement over their 4-13 finish last season.

The team will struggle right out of the gates, but there’s a chance they could steal a few wins along the way. They could be better than some think given the talent on defense and improvements at receiver.

Granted, they still need a true No. 1 receiver, but the additions of Ja’Lynn Polk and K.J. Osborn, along with another year of growth from DeMario Douglas, should be enough to keep things interesting.

This season will represent a step in the right direction for New England and hopefully bring about the future change fans are patiently waiting for.

Arkansas vs Missouri game predictions: Three are picking the Tigers

Which means one of our staffers is picking the Razorbacks.

No matter what happens Friday, Arkansas’ season is over.

The Razorbacks, and their fan base, would prefer to go out on top, of course, against Missouri in the Battle Line Rivalry. Rare have those times come, though, as the Tigers have won seven of nine meetings since the two began playing every season.

Missouri is about a touchdown favorite, which may actually seem a bit low considering its standing as a Top-10 team in the nation and Arkansas’ measly 4-7 record. The Razorbacks have only beaten Missouri twice in their last nine tries on top of that, even.

But that isn’t stopping one of our four staffers here at Razorbacks Wire from going with the Hogs.

Here are the final picks of the Arkansas football season from editor E. Wayne and contributors Steve Andrews, Connor Goodson and Derek Oxford.

Three of four RazorbacksWire staffers are going with the same pick in Arkansas/Auburn

Only one of the crew sees the final margin more than one possession between the Hogs and Tigers.

A win is necessary for Arkansas on Saturday while Auburn doesn’t require one, though the Tigers could certainly use an injection of fervor.

The two rivals are set to kick from Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium at 3 p.m. The Hogs must win all three of their final games – against Auburn, Florida International and Missouri – to reach .500 and gain bowl eligibility. Auburn needs just one win to reach the same.

The Tigers have been the better team over the last 10 years, though that’s hardly a surprise considering the difficulties of the Chad Morris era and the final year of Bret Bielema’s regime.

Current Arkansas coach Sam Pittman lost to Auburn in his first two years – the first loss to the Tigers was controversial – but the Razorbacks won last year’s meeting shortly after Auburn and coach Bryan Harsin parted ways by 14 points.

As for 2023, three of our RazorbacksWire staffers are going with the Hogs. Check out details for our predictions below.

Oklahoma vs. West Virginia Mountaineers: Sooners Wire Staff Predictions

Sooners Wire Staff Predictions for Oklahoma’s matchup with the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Even in their two-game losing streak, the Oklahoma Sooners have shown signs of an improved football team. Obviously, it hasn’t been perfect, and there are things they have to improve, but there are encouraging signs.

But those encouraging signs won’t mean as much if the Sooners can’t correct the issues that have plagued them in recent weeks.

Self-inflicted wounds hurt the Sooners in tight games. If they avoid untimely penalties and protect the football better, they’ll put themselves in a position to snap their two-game skid.

The Oklahoma Sooners played a good defensive game a year ago in Morgantown, but struggled to contain Garrett Greene after he replaced J.T. Daniels at quarterback. It was Green’s ability to run the football that killed the Sooners, especially late in the game after West Virginia ran a ton of plays and kept a tired Sooners’ defense on the field for 93 plays.

Better depth, in particular at linebacker should allow their defensive guys to stay fresh as the Mountaineers attempt to slow the pace again and run a ton of plays.

But who wins the game? Let’s take a look at this week’s staff predictions.

National championship predictions: College Wire staff weighs in

Does anyone dare pick against the UConn Huskies? Our network of editors and staff weigh in.

On Monday evening the two remaining teams in the NCAA Tournament will take center stage as they compete for a national championship. Over the last several weeks, the field of 68 has shrunk to just two teams.

One team, the [autotag]San Diego State Aztecs[/autotag], has never been here before. Their coach has been an assistant on teams that played deep in the tournament but the program reached heights not seen before.

On the other bench, you have a program that has won four national titles. When the [autotag]Connecticut Huskies[/autotag] made it to the Final Four, they have cut down the nets in four of their five trips. When they have played for the title, UConn doesn’t head home empty-handed.

Everything is trending the way of UConn but does San Diego State have one more miracle in them? The College Wire staff and network weighed in with their selections for this showdown in Houston.

March Madness: College Wire’s Final Four predictions

Our Final Four predictions.

Following Sunday’s action in the 2023 NCAA men’s tournament, the Final Four will be the only teams left standing in pursuit of the championship. March Madness: College Wire staff predict each game in the round of 32

Our staff weighs in with predictions for each Round of 32 game.

The first round of the NCAA Tournament was absolutely bananas. Some might call it some March Madness.

Over the first two days of the tournament, fans watched the No. 1 Purdue Boilermakers, No. 2 Arizona Wildcats and No. 4 Virginia Cavaliers fall. Purdue joined Virginia in the record books for futility when it became the second No. 1 seed to lose to a No. 16 team in the opening round.
