Lakers land Marcus Smart, four others in massive three-team B/R mock trade

Would this mock trade supply the Lakers with the missing pieces they need to contend for the NBA championship?

There is just under a month to go before the NBA trade deadline, and rumors are flying regarding what the Los Angeles Lakers might do to make a serious run at another world championship.

The team is 19-19 and in ninth place in the Western Conference, which is not exactly what fans imagined when the season started. While injuries and a rough December travel schedule have been factors, it’s also clear L.A. could use a reinforcement or two.

The Lakers have been linked to Zach LaVine and Dejounte Murray, but landing either seems unlikely due to the asking price both are likely to command.

Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report proposed a big three-team trade involving the Memphis Grizzlies and Brooklyn Nets that could give the Purple and Gold what’s needed to make a title run.

Lakers guard Gabe Vincent will have knee surgery

The Lakers’ Gabe Vincent will undergo a procedure on his knee that will keep him out of action for some time.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been hit by what has seemed like a continuous string of injuries so far this season. Just when one or two players have gotten healthy and returned to game action, one or two new players have gone down with ailments.

Fortunately, they’re now close to full strength, and almost every player was available to play in their win on Saturday over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The notable exception was guard Gabe Vincent, who has struggled to stay healthy since the opening days of the regular season due to a knee ailment. He returned for one contest against the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday, but he has been out of action again since then.

He will reportedly have surgery on his troublesome left knee as a result.

Via ESPN:

“Los Angeles Lakers point guard Gabe Vincent will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his ailing left knee, a source familiar with Vincent’s plans confirmed to ESPN on Monday, with an expected recovery period of 6-to-8 weeks before he can return to game action,” wrote Dave McMenamin.

Vincent still has the potential to help L.A. once he’s healthy. He’s a tenacious defender who recovers loose balls and can occasionally handle the ball, facilitate and hit outside shots.

Gabe Vincent will not play on Saturday; is considering surgery

Although Lakers guard Gabe Vincent returned after being out for several weeks on Wednesday, it could be a while before he plays again.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent finally returned to action on Wednesday versus the Chicago Bulls after being forced to sit for an extended stretch due to a knee ailment.

It was the first time he had played in an actual game since Nov. 30. Although he only played 14 minutes, he made an impact, and there was hope he would help L.A. with its perimeter defense.

Alas, Vincent was held out of Thursday’s contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He will also sit Saturday’s matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

As a result, the outlook is starting to look bleak for him.

The former University of California, Santa Barabra Gaucho is reportedly considering a procedure that could keep him out until late February.

Last spring, Vincent averaged 12.7 points and 3.5 assists a game while shooting 37.8% from 3-point range, and he was a big factor in the Miami Heat’s Cinderella run to the NBA Finals.

LeBron James and Gabe Vincent will miss Lakers vs. Timberwolves game

Yet again, the Lakers will be short-handed, this time against the Timberwolves, who have the best record in the Western Conference.

The pressure is starting to build on the Los Angeles Lakers. They lost their third game in a row on Wednesday when they fell to the Chicago Bulls, 124-108, and on Thursday, they will visit the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves aren’t the generic opponent they may have been in past years. They not only have the best record in the Western Conference, but they also rank first in defensive rating.

The Lakers finally had all their rotation players available on Wednesday. For them, this has been a season defined by one minor or moderate injury after another. But now, another ailment has come up, and this time, it is afflicting their most important player.

LeBron James will not play versus Minnesota due to ankle tendinitis. In addition, guard Gabe Vincent, who finally returned versus Chicago after being out for many weeks, will not play.

Los Angeles will have Friday off before heading south to play the Oklahoma City Thunder, who have the second-best record in the West, on Saturday.

Gabe Vincent is probable for Wednesday’s Lakers-Bulls game

The Lakers could get a significant piece of their rotation back on Wednesday when they hit the road to take on the Bulls.

The Los Angeles Lakers have had plenty of trouble getting and staying healthy this season. It has been a continuous carousel of one or two players going out with injuries and later returning, only to have one or two new players go on the injured list.

The one player who has had the most trouble with his health has been guard Gabe Vincent. He played the Lakers’ first four regular-season contests and showed promise as a hustle player and glue guy, but he has been out since due to a knee issue.

He has been ramping up his activity lately, and it looks likely he will return when L.A. starts a three-game road trip against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.

The Lakers signed Vincent to a three-year, $33 million contract using their mid-level exception in July. They have had relatively high hopes for him, especially after he played a key role in the Miami Heat’s Cinderella run to the NBA Finals last season.

The former University of California, Santa Barbara Gaucho averaged 12.7 points and 3.5 assists a game while shooting 37.8% from 3-point range in the 2023 NBA playoffs.

Darvin Ham gives update on Gabe Vincent’s potential return

Is Lakers guard Gabe Vincent any closer to returning to game action?

On Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers play the New York Knicks, and this game will begin a challenging stretch in which they play the Boston Celtics and the Minnesota Timberwolves twice.

The Lakers have had trouble staying healthy this season, and it’s a major reason they are a disappointing 15-11 and in eighth place in the Western Conference. The one Lakers player who has had the biggest health problems is guard Gabe Vincent, who has been out for more than six weeks with a knee ailment.

There was hope he might return on Monday, but he will not. Head coach Darvin Ham said Vincent still needs to improve his conditioning before he can come back.

Vincent’s ability to pressure opponents defensively on the perimeter and  supply secondary ball-handling and occasional outside shooting should certainly help L.A.’s cause.

Lakers guard Gabe Vincent is reportedly targeting a return soon

The surging Lakers could become fully healthy in a matter of days.

The Los Angeles Lakers, after a 3-5 start, have won 11 of their last 15 games (12 of 16 if one counts their final in-season tournament game against the Indiana Pacers on Saturday). This spurt has coincided with improved health for them.

After missing multiple games, forwards Rui Hachimura, Cam Reddish and Taurean Prince returned to game action recently. In addition, forward Jarred Vanderbilt, arguably L.A.’s best defender outside of Anthony Davis, finally made his season debut just over a week ago after being sidelined since early in the preseason with heel bursitis.

The team is almost fully healthy. Guard Gabe Vincent is its only player still out. But Vincent may be closing in on a return after weeks of dealing with a knee issue.

He is reportedly targeting a return next week, and that return could come as early as next Monday (h/t Lakers Daily).

Via The Athletic:

“Guard Gabe Vincent is hopeful for a return as soon as Dec. 18 for the Lakers’ home game against the (New York) Knicks, according to league sources,” wrote Shams Charania.

Fans shouldn’t discount how much Vincent can help the team. He’s a gritty defender who has the ability to hit timely 3-pointers, and he is particularly adept at going after and recovering loose balls.

The Lakers have a three-game road trip this week during which they will play the Dallas Mavericks once and the San Antonio Spurs twice before they return to Crypto.com Arena.

An update on Gabe Vincent’s knee ailment

How much closer is Lakers guard Gabe Vincent to returning to game action after missing the team’s last 17 games?

The Los Angeles Lakers have been dealing with one minor or moderate injury after another dating to the exhibition season. While these injuries haven’t been debilitating, they have limited their progress in building chemistry and reaching their potential.

On Saturday, they took a major step toward becoming whole. Cam Reddish returned after missing four of their last five games with groin soreness, while forward Jarred Vanderbilt played for the first time since the preseason after going through heel bursitis. In addition, Rui Hachimura was cleared to play after being out for four games with a nasal fracture, although he didn’t get on the court.

The one member of the team who is unable to play is guard Gabe Vincent, who has had a knee ailment since the opening days of the regular season. Some have wondered if the ailment might be serious, but according to head coach Darvin Ham, he is progressing.

Via Lakers Nation:

“He’s progressing along. Not as of yet, but he’s progressing really, really good,” Ham said of Vincent’s status and whether he has been re-evaluated.

“He’s been running on an [anti-gravity treadmill]. He’s doing some just conditioning, obviously in that regard, some normal weight-lifting stuff, shooting shots. But that’s it.”

In Vincent’s four contests this season, he has shown an ability to defend at a relatively high level while recovering loose balls and forcing steals and deflections. That defensive activity and effectiveness will help a Lakers team that has already made strides on that end of the floor over the last three weeks.

Gabe Vincent to be reevaluated in two weeks

Lakers guard Gabe Vincent continues to struggle to overcome the knee ailment that has sidelined him for over two weeks.

The Los Angeles Lakers hold a mediocre 6-6 record about three weeks into the 2023-24 season. While energy has been an issue at times, another factor has been injuries.

Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, Rui Hachimura, Jaxson Hayes, Anthony Davis and LeBron James have all missed time due to various ailments. The absences of Vanderbilt and Vincent have particularly stood out, not just because of their duration, but also because of how they have affected the team.

Vanderbilt and Vincent are two of L.A.’s best defenders. Both are gritty players who will make hustle plays to help their team win games.

While Vanderbilt may be on the mend, Vincent will not be returning for a while due to a knee ailment.

Vincent has been out since the second week of the season. His absence has affected head coach Darvin Ham’s rotations, and to a certain extent, it may have influenced his decision to move Austin Reaves to the bench while promoting Cam Reddish to the starting lineup.

Lakers will be without at least three rotation players versus the Magic

The Lakers will be shorthanded when they start a four-game road trip on Saturday.

The Los Angeles Lakers, coming off a thrilling overtime win on Wednesday over the Los Angeles Clippers, will start a four-game road trip on Saturday.

That trip begins with a contest against the Orlando Magic, a team they defeated on Monday, albeit in ugly fashion.

Los Angeles hasn’t been at full strength this season. Forward and defensive ace Jarred Vanderbilt has been out due to left heel bursitis. Rui Hachimura has been out for the last two games, while Gabe Vincent and Taurean Prince missed Wednesday’s game.

Vanderbilt, Hachimura and Vincent will be out on Saturday, and Prince is listed as questionable.

The injuries have left the Lakers short-handed at the wing position and in the backcourt. The fact rookie guard Jalen Hood-Schifino has also been out lately with a right patella contusion has made that lack of depth even more painful.

Vincent is expected to miss at least two weeks, while Vanderbilt will be re-evaluated in about a week.
