Gregory Jackson II’s camp has met with the Thunder in pre-draft visit

G.G. Jackson’s camp has met with the Thunder in a pre-draft visit, per @BasketballGuruD

The 2023 NBA draft lottery is officially over, as it confirmed the Oklahoma City Thunder will pick No. 12 in the first round of the draft.

It’s also draft combine week, which means all of the top prospects are gathered in Chicago, Ill. This means that most players will likely be asked who they’ve worked out and met with so far.

One of those players was South Carolina forward Gregory Jackson II, whose representation confirmed they’ve met with the Thunder, per BSO’s Daniel Bell.

The 18-year-old averaged 15.4 points on 38.4% shooting, 5.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 32 games in his lone college season. He also shot 32.4% from 3 on 5.3 attempts.

Jackson II’s draft range has been all over the place — some have him as high as a lottery pick while others have him in the late first-round area. With the Thunder only having the No. 12 pick in the first round, Jackson II will likely be available at that spot.

The 2023 NBA draft is scheduled to happen on Thursday, June 22. A full list of prospects who’ve met with the Thunder can be read here.

Below is the game day and broadcast information for the SEC matchup between Alabama and South Carolina.

G.G. Jackson commits to South Carolina

Former UNC basketball commit G.G. Jackson has reclassified and committed to South Carolina.

It didn’t take long for former UNC basketball commit G.G. Jackson to make a decision on his future. Just over a week after he decommitted from North Carolina, Jackson made the decision to commit to South Carolina as many predicted he will.

Jackson took to Twitter on Saturday to announce he’s staying in-state and will play at home for the Gamecocks. Even as he was committed to UNC, there were rumblings of a decommit and an eventual decision to go play for the Gamecocks here in 2022 as an early enrollee. And the Gamecocks got their wish by landing the top player in the 2023 class.

It’s been an eventful few months for Jackson in the recruiting world. After committing to UNC, he saw his stock rise and he climbed to the top of the 2023 rankings.  From there, the talk was that he would reclassify to 2023 but he told UNC that he does not plan on doing so.

Then in early July, On3’s Jamie Shaw wrote that there could be a decommitment on the horizon as Jackson wants to enroll early and UNC doesn’t have a spot anymore after adding Pete Nance. And it was all downhill from there.

UNC now turns their focus to other 2023 prospects including T.J. Power who appears high on their list.

G.G. Jackson decommits from North Carolina

UNC basketball recruit G.G. Jackson has officially decommitted just a few months after joining their 2023 recruiting class.

It’s finally happened.

After a few weeks of speculation, five-star recruit [autotag]G.G. Jackson[/autotag] has de-committed from North Carolina on Thursday night. Hours after 247Sports reported that Jackson would be decommitting, the recruit made it official and took to Twitter to announce the decision.

Jackson released a statement thanking UNC coaches as he was committed for just over two months. But as Jackson’s stock rose to being the No. 1 player, so did the rumors and in the end those in his camp got what they wanted and he’s likely heading to South Carolina for their 2022 recruiting class.

Here is the message Jackson posted on Twitter:

“Thank you to coach Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball staff for recruiting me and giving me a chance to play for your university,” Jackson said in a statement. “My family has stuck by my side since I was born and have been the biggest supporters in my life by guiding me in the right direction. I have decided to decommit from UNC to explore other options that can help me grow from a teenage boy to an adult and to put me in the best position to reach my dream goal which is the NBA.”

Even with Jackson calling UNC his dream school, the plan for most around him was to stay at home and play for South Carolina. With Frank Martin fired, it appeared as if Jackson made his decision and then picked UNC but was it really final?

The Gamecocks continued to press on Jackson and there was pressure to get to the NBA as quick as he could. The Tar Heels didn’t have an open scholarship in 2022 after taking Pete Nance. But according to Inside Carolina, they would have taken Jackson in 2022 but were told he didn’t plan on reclassifying.

Alas, this saga is finally over. We wish G.G. the best of luck at South Carolina or the G-League.

REPORT: G.G. Jackson to decommit from UNC, enroll at South Carolina

The UNC basketball program is set to lose their top commit as No. 1 ranked recruit G.G. Jackson is set to decommit per a report.

After a few weeks of rumors, the reality is starting to set in for UNC basketball fans with No. 1 overall recruit [autotag]G.G. Jackson[/autotag].

According to Travis Branham of 247Sports, Jackson will decommit from North Carolina and reclassify to 2022 where he will join South Carolina and play his college basketball at home. The news is a big blow to UNC’s 2023 recruiting class which had two five-star players committed in Simeon Wilcher and Jackson.

Now, Hubert Davis and his staff have to figure out a new plan and address the forward position again.

The move for Jackson is expected to happen within the next few weeks as Branham notes:

According to multiple sources, Jackson is expected to decommit from North Carolina and enroll early at hometown South Carolina — an announcement that is expected to come in the next two weeks.

He will conclude his EYBL season at the Peach Jam, July 17-24.

Jackson committed to North Carolina in April, shortly after the team made a Final Four run. UNC was considered his dream school as is his dad’s but in the end, the decision to stay home won out.

Reclassifying in 2023 and playing for UNC was an option but it was very unlikely. He would need to not be on scholarship after he denied the rumor of joining UNC’s class several times in the past few months. UNC filled their last open scholarship with Pete Nance.

Now, recruiting will pick up for Davis and the Tar Heels in the coming months.

National insider predicts G.G. Jackson will flip commitment

A national recruiting insider has flipped his prediction from the UNC basketball program for G.G. Jackson to South Carolina.

It appears as if the smoke behind the [autotag]G.G. Jackson[/autotag] rumors has turned into fire for the UNC basketball program.

Just last week, On3’s Jamie Shaw reported that Jackson could flip his commitment from North Carolina to South Carolina despite the recruit saying it was nothing but rumors. But since then, it appears as if this rumor is about to come true at least to a few recruiting experts.

In the past week, there have been five predictions for Jackson to flip from the Gamecocks to the Tar Heels on 247Sports. The first four came from Duke and South Carolina insiders and now, it’s national recruiting analyst Travis Branham flipping his prediction.

Branham put in a prediction for Jackson to join South Carolina, flipping from UNC.

Now, this isn’t a guarantee it will happen BUT it does seem likely now with all of the rumors floating around. That’s bad news for UNC as Jackson is ranked No. 1 overall in the 2022 class and is the Tar Heels’ prized recruit.

It appears to be only a matter of time before it happens..

Hubert Davis watches G.G. Jackson again in Kansas City

UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis watched five-star recruit G.G. Jackson again on Friday night at the Nike EYBL event.

This week has been filled with rumors surrounding five-star UNC basketball commit [autotag]G.G. Jackson[/autotag]. After a report from On3’s Jamie Shaw surfaced that Jackson could flip his commitment from UNC to South Carolina, the rumors began to swirl.

And they are rumors UNC fans don’t want to hear. Shaw even flipped his prediction on On3 to the Gamecocks after his article was out.

Jackson is the No. 1 ranked recruit in the 2024 class, picking UNC over Duke, South Carolina and the G-League back on April 27th. He’s a prized recruit for Hubert Davis and his staff and it appears as if the head coach isn’t going to stop recruiting him even after landing a commitment.

On Friday, Davis watched Jackson again at the Nike EYBL event in Kansas City:

This came just a day after Davis and assistants watched Jackson play for Team CP3. It’s clear Davis knows he has to make sure he keeps Jackson a Tar Heel and showing interest in the recruit by watching him can help.

Now, we just all await what Jackson is going to do as the Summer goes on.

Hubert Davis, UNC assistants watching G.G. Jackson

The UNC Basketball program sent out a few coaches to watch top recruit G.G. Jackson in Kansas City at a Nike EYBL event.

With the live evaluation periods finally here in July, the UNC Basketball program is on the road to watch recruits in future classes. And they wasted no time watching their prized recruit, five-star forward [autotag]G.G. Jackson[/autotag].

North Carolina head coach Hubert Davis and assistants were on hand in Kansas City to watch Jackson play in the Nike EYBL event. 247Sports recruiting analyst Kevin Flaherty tweeted out that he spotted the coaches watching Jackson.

This comes just a few days after On3 reporter Jamie Shaw wrote on the possibility that Jackson could reclassify or decommit and join South Carolina. Jackson called those “rumors” on an Instagram live.

Jackson’s game has really ascended over the past year and he’s claimed the top spot in recruiting rankings. That’s great news for UNC who have two five-star recruits already committed headlined by Jackson.

Despite the recruit calling the report a rumor, the Tar Heels are trying to make sure his commitment is solid. And sending out the head coach and assistants to see him is never a bad thing.

G.G. Jackson calls South Carolina report as ‘rumors’

UNC basketball five-star commit G.G. Jackson has addressed the rumor that he could end up at South Carolina instead of Chapel Hill.

UNC basketball fans were sent into a panic on Sunday afternoon when a story from Jamie Shaw of On3 suggested that five-star recruit [autotag]G.G. Jackson[/autotag] could de-commit from UNC and eventually end up at South Carolina.

The story is behind a paywall but suggested that there’s a chance that Jackson could de-commit and join the Gamecocks instead. There was also talk of reclassifying to 2022 and playing right away. Whenever a report like that surfaces and there’s a long ways to go before signing day, there’s some reason to be concerned.

But now a day later, Jackson is addressing that report and called it “rumors” while appearing on Instagram live:

Okay, breathe now UNC fans.

Jackson coming out and saying it is indeed a rumor is a good sign for UNC fans right now. However, as I mentioned above there is a long ways until signing day and when a player sees his stock rise to being No. 1 like Jackson has, anything can happen. That’s especially true when there are people in your ear about staying in-state and going to that program as well.

Should we panic now? No. Not at all. Jackson is a Tar Heel and until that changes, there shouldn’t be much to worry about.

Analyst praised this area of UNC commit G.G. Jackson’s game

A recruiting analyst had nothing but praise for UNC basketball commit G.G. Jackson’s game at the NBPA Top 100 camp last week.

UNC basketball commit [autotag]G.G. Jackson[/autotag] is coming off a big showing in the NBPA Top 100 camp where he took home MVP honors. The five-star recruit lived up to the billing of being the top player in the 2023 class and should carry that ranking through the Summer.

While Jackson has proven to be a top player, one analyst praised a certain area of his game that might be a little underrated for the forward position.

Rivals reporter Russ Wood was on hand for the event and talked about Jackson’s game:

Jackson missed each three-pointer he attempted in his afternoon game on Thursday but he was productive in so many other ways and lived up to his No. 1 ranking. I love his motor and volume rebounding. His ball handling – let’s just say Jackson and the ball have a relationship – is very impressive.

It’s no secret that Jackson can fill up the score sheet with his scoring and rebounding abilities, but if he’s able to keep getting better with his ball-handling skills, then he could be even better at the next level for UNC.

Jackson might just be the perfect fit for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels’ system which should be good news for the future of the program.
