Jerry Jeudy had a funny reaction to reason why Broncos-Jets trade was nixed

Jets owner Woody Johnson nixed a Jerry Jeudy trade to New York because of the WR’s Madden rating. This is how Jeudy responded to the report.

Earlier this week, Dianna Russini, Zack Rosenblatt and Michael Silver released a wild report in The Athletic about New York Jets owner Woody Johnson nixing a trade with the Denver Broncos earlier this year.

In the story, Jets general manager Joe Douglas was said to be “deep in negotiations” with Broncos general manager George Paton on a trade that would have sent wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to New York this spring.

Here’s what happened next, according to The Athletic:

The Broncos felt a deal was near. Then, abruptly, it all fell apart. In Denver’s executive offices, they couldn’t believe the reason why.

Douglas told the Broncos that Johnson didn’t want to make the trade because the owner felt Jeudy’s player rating in “Madden NFL,” the popular video game, wasn’t high enough, according to multiple league sources. The Broncos ultimately traded the receiver to the Cleveland Browns.

Jeudy had a Madden rating of 83 overall in last year’s version of the popular NFL video game. His rating improved to 84 this year.

Jeudy took to Twitter/X with a funny response to the report:

Chad “OchoCinco” Johnson is a Madden ratings adjuster (yes, that’s an actual position). The former NFL receiver indicated that the deal getting nixed worked out for Jeudy in the end:

Johnson promised a big ratings increase next year if Jeudy finishes the season strong:

Jeudy later said on a Cleveland radio station that he thinks the report is funny, but fake news.

For what it’s worth, the Broncos have pushed back on The Athletic report through KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis, who tweeted on Thursday that “from the Broncos perspective, talks broke down due to draft compensation and nothing more.”

Jeudy, 25, has hauled in a career-high 70 receptions for a career-best 1,052 receiving yards and four touchdowns through 14 games with the Browns this season.

Adonai Mitchell had a perfect response to Nik Bonitto’s fumble-6

“It was there pretty much until [No.] 15 turned into Ed Reed and just came through out of nowhere,” Adonai Mitchell said of Nik Bonitto.

Struggling to get anything going on offense, the Indianapolis Colts turned to a trick play while trailing the Denver Broncos by four points in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game.

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson threw the ball backwards to wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. The receiver was then set to throw the ball back to Richardson, presumably for the QB to throw the ball downfield.

Mitchell’s backwards throw to Richardson was picked off by Broncos pass rusher Nik Bonitto and returned 51 yards for a touchdown. Technically, it was a fumble-six because the ball was not thrown forward.

After an eventual 31-13 win for Denver, Mitchell had a great quote on the game-changing play.

“If you look at it from my perspective, it was there pretty much until [No.] 15 turned into Ed Reed and just came through out of nowhere,” Mitchell said. “I mean, it was a great play by him. We just have to execute better.”

“I executed,” the receiver said. “I saw it, he was open, I threw it. Turns out he wasn’t open. I don’t know where [No.] 15 came from, but I didn’t see him.”

Bonitto quickly realized that it wasn’t a typical play.

“It was kind of a slow developing play, so I knew something was weird,” the pass rusher said. “The receiver usually doesn’t go catch screens like that. Once I saw Richardson drifting back a little bit, I decided to go try and break on it and ended up getting it.”

Bonitto reached a top speed of 20.19 mph on his return, which marked the fastest speed by a linebacker carrying the ball this season, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

“He is athletic,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said after the win. “That is two games in a row. It was a real good play, and the timing of it. There was like a 10-minute period in the game where it went from being close to not out of reach but certainly in our favor.”

In the team’s last game, Bonitto had a 71-yard pick-six on Monday Night Football against the Cleveland Browns. He became the second player in franchise history to post a defensive touchdown in back-to-back games, joining former defensive back Bill Thompson (1973).

With two scores and the third-most sacks (11.5) in the NFL, Bonitto is making a case to win Defensive Player of the Year. The pass rusher was asked if he’s thought about winning the award.

“Not really because it still doesn’t seem real to be mentioned in that type of light,” Bonitto said. “There are three games left, so we have to take it one game at a time. We just have to keep stacking these wins.”

Bonitto might not be thinking about it, but the stats are on his side. J.J. Watt was the NFL’s last player to total at least 10 sacks and score two defensive touchdowns in the same season (2014), and Watt took home DPOY honors that year. Bonitto is on pace to do the same in 2024.

Broncos players laugh about Jonathan Taylor’s ‘early Christmas present’

Jonathan Taylor’s fumble was “an early Christmas present,” leaving Broncos players all in smiles in the locker room after the win.

Early in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor ripped off a 41-yard touchdown run to give his team a 13-point lead. Well, almost.

After review, officials determined that Taylor dropped the ball just before crossing the goal line. Taylor’s fumble rolled out of the end zone for a touchback. So instead of scoring a touchdown, Taylor gave the ball back to Denver.

Following that game-altering play, the Broncos went on to score 24 unanswered points in an eventual 31-13 victory. Denver coach Sean Payton was flabbergasted when asked about the play after the game.

“That was significant,” Payton said. “I don’t get it, but I’m not going to try to. That was a significant play that you go from breaking a long run for a touchdown for your team to us having the ball.”

Payton was asked if the play could be a teachable moment for his own players.

“Fair question,” Payton said. “I cannot recall covering that. It would not be a teaching point. I think that will be difficult for the coaches and every one of his teammates. It’ll just be difficult, I don’t get it. I’ll leave it at that. I don’t want to say something.”

At the risk of putting words in the coach’s mouth, it seemed that Payton might have been suggesting such a scenario shouldn’t even need to be taught because it’s common sense to not drop the ball before you score. Those are Broncos Wire’s words, though, as Payton was careful to not say too much.

Denver’s players, on the other hand, weren’t quite as diplomatic.

Broncos pass rusher Jonathon Cooper gave Taylor a shoutout in the locker room, Nik Bonitto said he was happy the running back bailed out the defense and safety P.J. Locke thanked the “football Gods.” Everyone had big smiles when asked about the play.

The best reaction of the night came from defensive back Brandon Jones.

“I think it was kind of fitting for the kind of season it is,” Jones said, via Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette. “It’s an early Christmas present, which we are super grateful for it and we appreciated it so much.”

Denver defensive lineman John-Franklin Myers also had a great reaction:

Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton said any Denver players who made such a blunder would have to answer to the wrath of Payton.

As for Taylor himself, the running back took responsibility for the blunder.

“It just can’t happen,” Taylor said. “No matter the game, no matter the scenario, you could be up 50, down by 50, in a playoff game, the first game of the season. That should never happen.”

Taylor said he apologized to his teammates and vowed never to let it happen again.

“I told them, I apologized, and I just know that it will never happen again,” the running back said. “That has never happened to me before, and it will never happen again.”

The Broncos are now just one more win away from clinching a spot in the NFL playoffs. Indy’s postseason hopes are now all but dead.

Broncos troll Colts with funny tweets after Sunday’s win

The Broncos’ social media team trolled the Colts on Twitter/X following Sunday’s win.

The Denver Broncos (9-5) defeated the Indianapolis Colts (6-8) in a 31-13 comeback victory on Sunday afternoon to secure their first winning season since 2016. The Broncos are now just one more victory away from clinching a spot in the NFL playoffs this season.

Following the win, Denver’s social media team took two Twitter/X to troll on the Colts with a funny meme video:

The Broncos’ en Español account also got in on the fun:

Denver is now set to face the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football at SoFi Stadium in Week 16. If the Broncos beat the Chargers on the road, Denver will clinch its first playoff berth since winning Super Bowl 50 in 2015.

The Broncos are back.

Garett Bolles breaks news of his 4-year contract extension with great video

Denver Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles announced his four-year contract extension with a funny video.

Denver Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles has agreed to a four-year contract extension, the offensive lineman announced with a clever video on his social media pages on Thursday.

“Broncos Country, It’s been a great 8 years! Thanks for everything! And … I’m not leaving. The show goes on! GB,” Bolles wrote on social media.

Bolles shared a video with a photo of his face over Leonardo DiCaprio from a classic scene in The Wolf of Wall Street: “I’m not leaving,” DiCaprio says. “I’m not leaving. I’m not leaving! The show goes on!”

After Bolles broke the news, outlets quickly started confirming that the 32-year-old lineman has signed a four-year deal that will keep him in Denver through the 2028 season.

Bolles was picked by the Broncos in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft out of Utah. He struggled early in his career but Bolles has emerged as a top left tackle in recent seasons.

After previously giving contract extensions to cornerback Pat Surtain, guard Quinn Meinerz and pass rusher Jonathon Cooper earlier this year, Denver now has a quartet of key players signed through the duration of quarterback Bo Nix’s rookie contract. The next order of business could be an extension for pass rusher Nik Bonitto, who ranks second in the NFL in sacks this fall.

The four-year deal is worth $82 million and could reach up to $86 million with incentives, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The deal includes $42 million guaranteed.

Nix’s blindside now has protection secured for the next four seasons.

Broncos fans (not Colts fans) loved Peyton Manning’s message on the ‘ManningCast’

“Could be my Broncos in that playoff game,” Peyton Manning said of the ManningCast’s postseason broadcast.

Peyton Manning spent the first 14 years of his Indianapolis Colts, but after undergoing multiple neck surgeries, he was released in 2012 and the Colts moved on with Andrew Luck.

Manning then landed with the Denver Broncos, where he played the final four years of his career. Manning helped Denver win four division titles and reach two Super Bowls during his time with the Broncos, and he retired after winning Super Bowl 50 following the 2015 season.

Manning still lives in the Denver area and he has season tickets for Broncos games (you can spot him on the sideline of most home games). The retired quarterback also works on various projects with Omaha Productions, including the ManningCast with his brother, Eli, and former NFL coach Bill Belichick.

On the regular season finale of the ManningCast last night, Manning looked ahead to the playoff broadcast with a prediction about one of his former teams.

“Hey, Bill, we’ll see ya in the playoff game coming up,” Manning told Belichick at the end of the first quarter. “That’s the next time we’ll see ya. Looking forward to that. I don’t know who we’re going to have — could be my Broncos. Could be my Broncos in that playoff game, Eli. I’m just calling it right now.”

Eli nodded: “They’re playing well.”

Ironically, the Broncos will host the Colts on Sunday afternoon and Indy will be desperate for a win to keep its playoff hopes alive. Despite spending the majority of his career with the Colts, though, Manning dubbed Denver’s squad “my Broncos,” and he’s backing them to reach the postseason.

Here’s a sampling of how fans reacted on Twitter/X.

Added another fan on Reddit: “I know Indy loves him, but he chose us and loves us more… I love it.”

The 48-year-old retired QB is an official member of Broncos Country.

Broncos QB Bo Nix went viral after yelling at Browns to ‘jump offsides!’

Broncos QB Bo Nix went viral during MNF after he pulled a page out of Jameis Winston’s playbook and yelled at the defense to jump offsides!

During the Cleveland Browns’ 24-19 upset win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 12, quarterback Jameis Winston was caught mic’d up shouting, “Somebody jump offsides!”

One week later, Winston and the Browns faced the Denver Broncos and quarterback Bo Nix gave a good-natured nod to his counterpart.

Facing a 4th-and-2 while leading by three points late in the third quarter, Nix attempted to draw Cleveland’s defenders offside with a hard count. The Browns didn’t fall for it and Nix pulled a page out of Winston’s playbook.

“Jump offsides!” Nix said with a big smile before Denver conceded a delay of game penalty and kicked a field goal.

Fans appreciated the funny moment, and it’s gone viral on Twitter/X.

The Broncos went on to beat the Browns 41-32 and Nix spoke glowingly about Winston following the game. Up next for Denver is a bye in Week 14 followed by a home game against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15.

Broncos troll Browns with funny tweets after ‘MNF’ win

The Broncos continue to win on and off the field.

The Denver Broncos hung on to defeat the Cleveland Browns 41-32 on Monday Night Football in Week 13.

It was a wild game that featured 952 total yards, 73 combined points, five interceptions and four lead changes. Following their win, the Broncos’ official Twitter/X page trolled the Browns on social media.

The first post showed horse feed marked “W” being dropped into a bucket and a person riding a horse with the Browns logo on them getting bucked off the horse into a big water trough.

Denver’s Español account also got in on the fun, sharing a funny video that shows a “Beware of the Dog” sign before looking over a fence to reveal a tiny chihuahua chilling on a chair:

The Broncos certainly got the last laugh on and off the field on Monday. Denver will now have a bye in Week 14 followed by a home game against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15.

Jameis Winston had an all-time great quote after 3 INTs vs. Broncos

“I’m just like praying for the Lord to deliver me from pick-sixes,” Jameis Winston said after losing to the Broncos on Monday.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston had a wild game in a crazy 41-32 loss to the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football in Week 13.

Winston threw for 497 yards and four touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. After the game, Winston delivered an all-time great quote in his post-game press conference.

“In times like this, it’s an opportunity to continue to glorify the Lord even through the toughest circumstances,” Winston said. “I know I’m better than this. I know — like I’m just like praying for the Lord to deliver me from pick-sixes. Like that’s just — that’s not me. Like, phenomenal game, offenses do some great things, but I mess it up.”

That clip from his press conference quickly went viral and reactions are pouring in.

“There is no one like this guy, incredible TV on and off the field. Can’t wait for his post career podcast lol,” one fan wrote.

A Broncos fan chimed in: “This guy is so good for the NFL. I love watching him play. I hope he gets another big contract. He’s a good, good dude!”

Added another fan: “My man had his best AND worst game all in one night 💀”

The Browns dropped to 3-9 on Monday while the Broncos improved to 8-5.

Wil Lutz had a funny response to Bo Nix’s comments about settling for field goals

Broncos QB Bo Nix said he’s proud of Wil Lutz, but he only wants the kicker to have to attempt extra points. This is how Lutz responded.

Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz had a big performance against the Las Vegas Raiders last week, going 5-for-5 on field goal attempts and 2-for-2 on extra point attempts in a 29-19 win on the road.

Following his 17-point day, Lutz was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Broncos players are, of course, happy for Lutz’s success, but quarterback Bo Nix doesn’t want to settle for that many field goals going forward.

“When we get into the red zone, we have to score,” Nix said last Friday. “One thing that we didn’t do great last week. Wil Lutz got another Player of the Week because he’s kicking five field goals. We’re proud of him and he’s doing a great job of when he gets out there, but we’re trying to have him only make 15-yarders from the extra point standpoint. We have to continue to be efficient when our moment comes and continue to score touchdowns. That’s what has worked in the past and in a game like this, primetime, that is how you win games. You have to score points.”

Lutz had a perfect response to his quarterback’s statement:

Lutz has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week twice this season and Nix has won three straight Rookie of the Week awards. The kicker joked that he’s just trying to keep pace with his QB. So long as the Broncos continue to win, Lutz can win all the awards he likes.
