WATCH: Report: Arizona’s Josh Shaw bet against the Cardinals

Arizona Cardinal defensive back, Josh Shaw, bet against his own team in a wager that has him suspended through at least the end of the 2020 season.

Last week, Josh Shaw was handed the first suspension for betting on NFL games that the league has dished out since 1983. Turns out, the Arizona Cardinals defensive back bet against his own team in the wager that has him suspended through at least the end of the 2020 season.

Multiple sources told ESPN, “A three-team parlay that included an Arizona Cardinals game led the NFL in part to suspend Cardinals defensive back Josh Shaw for violating the league’s gambling policy.”

Shaw reportedly placed a bet on the second halves of three games on Nov. 10. The 27-year-old made the bet at a Caesars sportsbook in Las Vegas while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were leading the Cardinals 17-13 at halftime.

ESPN reports, “The Buccaneers were 1-point favorites for the second half. They failed to cover the second-half spread but went on to defeat the Cardinals 30-27. Shaw’s bet lost, according to the sources.”

Shaw signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals in March and was placed on injured reserve on Aug. 25 with a shoulder injury.

Shaw can petition for reinstatement on or after Feb. 15, 2021.

WATCH: Washington’s Chris Petersen announces he’s stepping down

University of Washington’s head coach Chris Petersen is stepping down, effective following the Huskies bowl game.

University of Washington’s head coach Chris Petersen is stepping down, effective following the Huskies bowl game.

The athletic department announced the news Monday, naming current defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake the Huskies next head coach. Petersen will transition into a leadership advisory role within the athletic department, according to the news release.

“It has been a privilege and a professional dream fulfilled to be part of this world-class institution,” Petersen said. “I will forever be grateful, honored and humbled to have had the opportunity to coach our fine young men on Montlake for these past six seasons. I thank each of them, as well as our coaches and administrative staff for the incredible commitment they’ve made to Husky football during my tenure. The football program and Husky Athletics across the board will continue to prosper – and do it the right way – with Jen Cohen’s leadership and the University administration’s commitment to excellence. I’ll be a Husky for life, but now is the right time for me to step away from my head coaching duties, and recharge.”

Petersen helped Washington win two PAC-12 Championships (2016 and 2018), a College Football Playoff appearance (2016) and three New Years’ Six Bowl games in a row.

The Huskies finished the regular season with a 31-13 win over rival Washington State for a 7-5, 4-5 Pac-12 regular-season record.

WATCH: Minshew mania back as Jaguars name rookie starting QB over Foles

The Jaguars will start rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew II in Sunday’s game versus the Chargers.

The Jaguars will start rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew II in Sunday’s game versus the Chargers.

Minshew replaced Nick Foles after the first half of Jacksonville’s 28-11 Week 13 loss to the Buccaneers (5-7). Foles completed 7 of 14 pass attempts for 93 yards and threw one interception in what was just his fourth start of the season after suffering a collarbone injury during Week One.

A 2019 sixth-round draft pick, Minshew made eight starts after Foles injury, stepping into the quarterback role in Week 1 then leading the Jags through Week 9 before being replaced with a healthy Foles in Weeks 11 and 12.

In 10 games this season, Minshew has completed 204 of 334 pass attempts (61.1%) for 2,432 yards and 14 touchdowns. The former Washington State QB has thrown five interceptions this season.

The Jaguars (4-8) signed Foles to a four-year, $88 million deal in March. In four starts this season, the 30-year-old completed 77 of 117 pass attempts (65.8%) for 736 yards and three touchdowns. Foles has thrown two interceptions — one in his first start after returning from injury of Nov. 17 and one in the Dec. 1 loss.

WATCH: Rob Gronkowski is ineligible to play this NFL season

Perhaps this will slow the murmurings and the “Will he or won’t he?” questioning for a few months — Rob Gronkowski is now ineligible to play this NFL season.

Perhaps this will slow the murmurings and the “Will he or won’t he?” questioning for a few months — Rob Gronkowski is now ineligible to play this NFL season.

The deadline for players on the reserve list to apply for reinstatement was 4 p.m. Eastern time Saturday, the final business day before Week 13 kickoff.

While that cutoff definitely means Gronk won’t be able to step out on the field and help the Patriots this season, he has left the door open for a return beyond this year and is eligible to come out of retirement and play again following the Super Bowl.

“I wouldn’t say ‘never coming back,’” Gronkowski said in November. “I’m 30 years old. I’m young. I still stay fit, still, watch the game whenever I can still enjoy it. I’m feeling good, but you know, one year off could possibly be the case. Or maybe two years off, man. It’s always an option in the back of my head.”

Report: Eagles, Lane Johnson agree to record contract extension

The Eagles and Johnson have agreed to a record-setting contract extension, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo: four years, $72 million, including $54.595 million guaranteed.

Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson made big man history Friday. The 29-year-old agreed to a four-year contract extension that is the largest for any OL in NFL history in both per-year amount and in guaranteed money.

Johnson was drafted fourth overall by Philadelphia out of the University of Oklahoma in 2013. The two-time Pro Bowl tackle has started in all 90 games he’s played in through now seven seasons with the organization.

The Eagles penned Johnson to his first four-year extension in 2016 and there was still one year left on that deal when Johnson signed his new four-year extension. The record contract is worth $72 million, including $54.595 million guaranteed.
Earlier this year, Johnson donated $500,000 to the community college he played at for one season (before transferring and becoming a Sooner). The money will go to build a new athletic performance center at Kilgore College, the facility will be called “The Lane.”
