Four-star offensive guard Earnest Greene announces top schools

Earnest Greene announced his top 10 schools on Wednesday afternoon and Texas made the cut. He ranks as the No. 2 guard in the country.

Texas’ offensive line recruiting is going to be the most important position throughout the 2022 class. After the disaster that was the 2021 cycle under Herb Hand, the Longhorns not only have to respond with quantity, but also quality.

In-state prospects such as Devon Campbell, Kelvin Banks, and Kam Dewberry remain the main focus. However, Steve Sarkisian and Kyle Flood have dipped out of the state for another top-rated guard.

Earnest Greene announced his top 10 schools on Wednesday afternoon and Texas made the cut. Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M, and USC were the other nine schools.

On the 247Sports composite, Greene is ranked as the No. 6 player in the state of California. Nationally, he is the No. 2 offensive guard and the No. 52 overall prospect. Only Campbell ranks higher at their respective position.

Greene was offered by Sarkisian and Flood on Feb. 15. He should rank as one of the top out-of-state players that Texas is going after.

Texas Football Recruiting: Longhorns offer No. 2 prospect from Wisconsin

Texas continues to reach out to the top offensive lineman in the country.

Offensive line recruiting will be the most critical part of the Texas’ 2022 class. Tom Herman’s staff neglected the positional group during his last year in charge, leaving the depth chart thin and without elite talent.

With the new staff, Steve Sarkisian and Kyle Flood continue to reach out to the top offensive lineman in the country. On Thursday, they went up north to Wisconsin and extended an offer to Carson Hinzman, a four-star offensive guard.

Eight Big Ten schools have offered Hinzman, the most out of any conference. Iowa State and Kansas State are the only other Big 12 schools that have gotten into the Hinzman sweepstakes.
