Not only will Rutgers play a very good Maryland team this Saturday, but they have to battle a flu bug that has cut through their team this past week.

On Monday, head coach Greg Schiano said that the flu hit his team hard ahead of this past weekend’s game at Penn State. Now, his program is again having to fight through these health issues with the stakes high for the Scarlet Knights.

With a win against Maryland, Schiano’s program would be bowl eligible for the first time since 2014. There is never a convenient time for the flu, but this certainly is not ideal for Rutgers lading up to their biggest game of the season.

“We’re getting ready obviously for Maryland. It’s a big game for a lot of reasons. We’re up against it a little bit, we had a flu bug going through the team all last week. It’s continuing on, so it is something that we’re battling now. It was pretty bad last week,” Schiano told reporters on Monday.

“We had a bunch of guys we weren’t sure how it was going to go leading up to game time. Unfortunately, I feel like we’re going to be in that similar situation. When it comes to injuries, we came out of the game pretty well except for the continued outbreak of flu.”

Rutgers (5-6, 2-6 Big Ten) lost 28-0 at Penn State on Saturday in a game where the offense managed just 10 first downs and 160 yards of total offense. Maryland (5-6, 2-6 Big Ten) took their own bumps and lumps in a 59-18 loss to Michigan.

Flu has impacted several Packers players ahead of Seahawks game

The Green Bay Packers have been dealing with a flu outbreak that could affect the team ahead of their game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Green Bay Packers are apparently dealing with a flu outbreak in their locker room that could impact their play against the Seattle Seahawks in their divisional-round playoff matchup Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field.

Packers cornerback Josh Jackson was added to the list of questionable Green Bay players after Saturday’s practice. Six Packers were noted on Friday’s final injury report with an illness.

Late in the regular season, Seattle was also hit with the flu bug, which quickly spread throughout the locker room.

The Seahawks have also suffered their share of absences in the form of injuries, but this recent development in Green Bay may make the challenge of facing the Packers at Lambeau Field a little easier for Seattle, especially if players like Jackson are ultimately ruled out on gameday.

The inactives list for Sunday’s divisional-round matchup will be released 90 minutes prior to kickoff, which is scheduled for 3:40 p.m. PT.

A healthy Tyler Lockett is a huge factor for Seahawks on Sundays

Finally back to full form, Seattle Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett is now 100% healthy and ready to take on the Arizona Cardinals Week 16.

The Seattle Seahawks realized just how much they had missed Tyler Lockett when he finally returned to full form last week.

Lockett had first suffered a leg injury against the 49ers and was then hit with the flu that had been circling the Seahawks locker room. While the wide receiver didn’t miss a matchup, it was clear he was not 100% on the field.

“It was weird because we kind of felt it during the week – we just kind of felt it,” offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said on Thursday. “Sometimes, when you’re out here watching practice, you get a sense of man, the ball is going to him a lot. Or boy, he’s moving like himself. Like he’s got a particular speed that you’re used to seeing and we hadn’t really seen that for a while. I wasn’t really surprised. It was great to see it. I think he felt good.”

Against the Panthers last Sunday, Lockett bounced back to log eight receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown. He now has 75 catches for 994 yards and seven scores on the year.

“The catch he made, the big one down our boundary early in the game on 26 was an unbelievable catch,” Schottenheimer praised. “I still don’t know how he finishes some of those plays. We kind of anticipate it might be a good day for him.”

Lockett will get his next shot to impress Sunday afternoon against the Cardinals at CenturyLink Field.

Seahawks in good shape after illness circulated through locker room

The Seattle Seahawks have been battling flu and cold season, but the illness that has circulated the locker room seems to have passed.

It’s that time of year for fans – flu and cold season – and it’s no different for NFL teams around the league. Over the last couple of weeks, an illness has circulated around the Seattle Seahawks locker room, impacting a number of players.

Fortunately for Seattle, the bug seems to have passed.

“Well, it was really directed – focused – we practiced hard,” coach Pete Carroll said Friday afternoon. “We backed off today because we worked so hard the last couple days. We’re in good shape and we’re ready to go. We’ve done the things that we do. I think everybody’s really tuned in to making sure that we come back and play really good ball this week. It showed throughout the week. We’re in good shape.”

As of the final injury report, only one player remained listed as sick – defensive end Jadeveon Clowney – who is also battling a sports hernia.

Clowney has ultimately been ruled out for Sunday in Carolina, however, the illness that has stricken the locker room no longer looks to be a factor.

Jadeveon Clowney (illness) downgraded to out for Week 15

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is sick with the flu and will not play in Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has been downgraded to out for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, but his recent core muscle injury is not the culprit.

Instead, a bout with the flu bug that was going around Seattle’s locker room last week seems to have finally caught up with Clowney, who missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday with flu like symptoms.

Clowney was able to practice on Friday, but apparently his illness (and possibly his core injury) were too much for the Seahawks to feel comfortable suiting him up this week.

“He’s still getting back,” Carroll said on Friday. “He was out here with us today and all. He’s recovering still. He’s been pretty sick.”

David Moore, Tre Flowers and Tyler Lockett were among those afflicted with the flu last week, although all three managed to make it back in time to play against the Rams in Los Angeles.

Carroll had hoped Clowney would follow the same path, but he admitted, “it hasn’t been a good week for him at all.”

The Seahawks will be without Clowney’s ability as a run-stuffer and a pass-rusher this week against a Panthers offense that, even without Cam Newton, still has plenty of weapons to play spoiler against Seattle in a crucial Week 15 matchup.
