Florida vs Vanderbilt Game Preview

Why Vanderbilt Will Win

Is Florida on letdown alert?

Losing to Alabama was one thing – it was a tight game that went down to the wire – but losing to Kentucky? Florida doesn’t do that, and it might come into this game a bit down with the SEC title hopes on life support.

Vanderbilt is hurting itself with struggles completing the forward pass, too many turnovers, and way too many missed opportunities. If it can avoid making massive mistakes, and if the run defense can do enough to hold up on the line for long stretches, it might be able to hang around until late.

However …

Week 6 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Florida Will Win

Vanderbilt can’t stop the run.

Florida might not be too up for this after the struggles of last week against Kentucky, but it won’t get too funky.

Vanderbilt really, really doesn’t have a downfield passing game to count on, and the running game isn’t working, either. The biggest problem, though, is a run defense that’s allowing over 200 yards per game and 6.5 yards per carry.

The Gators are 3-0 when running for more than 245 yards, and 0-2 when running for under that …

Week 6 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Florida will run for over 245 yards.

No one has hit that mark this year against the Vandy D, but the Gators are going to pound and pound some more, and they’ll hit a few downfield plays after softening things up through the first quarter.

The Commodores are going to score a few late points, but the game will be long over before halftime.

Why Vanderbilt Will Win

Florida has all of a sudden hit a bit of a wall.

The offense wasn’t that consistently great this year, but even though it’s shooting well, points have been a wee bit hard to come by – the team hasn’t hit 75 points in any of the last seven games.

On the other side, Vanderbilt has been able to fight through a rough run of three straight road games and an SEC Tournament first round win over Texas A&M to get here.

The Commodores got out to a good start and then held on by hitting their free throws. They got to the line 24 times and hit 14 more free throws in the 79-68 win. Florida commits a whole lot of fouls, but …

Why Florida Will Win

Vanderbilt is bad at guarding the three – the win over A&M aside – and Florida is the best in the SEC at hitting from the outside.

The Gators hit 44% from three and 52% from the field in the 78-71 win at the end of January, and nailed 62% from the field in a 91-72 blowout in late December.

Vanderbilt also can make its threes, but the Gators are great at coming up with stops, they clamp down hard from the outside, and they’re great at forcing mistakes.

What’s Going To Happen

Vanderbilt struggled with its consistency all year, but it’s got the pop to make this interesting if it start hitting from the outside early. However, Florida is too good at scoring in a variety of ways and should pick up the pace again after a sluggish few weeks.

Florida (4-1) vs Vanderbilt (0-5) Game Preview

Why Florida Will Win

There’s no hotter college quarterback than Kyle Trask, maybe ever.

That include Joe Burrow.

All he has done is throw 28 touchdown passes – four or more in each of the six games – with just three picks while hitting 70% of his passes for a machine of a Gator attack.

Arkansas has been playing well. Six Trask touchdown passes and 63 points later … nope.

Georgia had the SEC’s best defense when it rolled into Jacksonville. It rolled right out getting hit for 474 passing yards, four touchdowns, and 44 points.

Vanderbilt doesn’t have the offensive firepower to come close to keeping up, and the defense doesn’t have the pass rush or the defensive front to bother Trask. The deep shots will be there all game long.

Why Vanderbilt Will Win

For being a winless team, Vanderbilt isn’t all that bad.

In normal times with a normal offseason schedule, this is a 4-8ish team with a few non-conference wins to turn everything up for a few upsets. The offense can move the chains, the offensive line hasn’t been bad, and the team probably had Mississippi State beaten if it wasn’t for five turnovers.

The one shot it has it to slow things down to a dead stop. Vandy is okay in the time of possession battle, and for all the good things Florida does, the defense will give up drives.

Georgia was a mess, but Arkansas was able to both run and throw for over 200 yards. The Commodores are going to need a few takeaways, the offense has to keep the ball for well over 35 minutes, and …

CFN Experts Picks, Predictions: Week 12

What’s Going To Happen

Nope.

Vanderbilt’s secondary has one interception on the year and over the last three games it allowed Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Kentucky combine to hit 82% of their passes.

Throw another four-plus touchdown day onto the pile for Heisman-elect Kyle Trask.
