WATCH: Five-star point guard Arterio Morris officially signs with Texas

Cha-ching. Five-star point guard Arterio Morris officially signs with Texas.

Texas’ basketball program is experiencing other worldly hype right now thanks to the hiring of Chris Beard.

The first-year head coach hit the recruiting trail hard bringing in a slew of talented transfers for this season, but already has been on fire for the next season.

Beard has already secured two five-star pledges this offseason for the 2022 recruiting class in point guard Arterio Morris and small forward Dillon Mitchell. Their class currently sits at the No. 25 in the nation, and will surely continue to trend upwards with the success the team will likely have this season.

Morris was the first commit of the future that Beard secured, as he committed back in July. The Dallas native officially signed with the Longhorns on Tuesday at a signing day ceremony at Kimball High School.

Here is the speech he gave prior to signing, and some photos from the big day.

The point guard has drawn comparisons to Memphis Grizzlies’ star point guard Ja Morant. Morris is ranked as No. 2 overall recruit from the state of Texas and the No. 4 point guard in the nation, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Morris took just one visit before deciding to commit to Texas, and now will look to help revamp a Texas squad that is senior and graduate transfer heavy this season. He and Kentucky transfer Devin Askew could form one of the most dangerous backcourts in the nation next season.

Texas offers 2023 five-star point guard Caleb Foster

Chris Beard is swinging for the fences again.

Texas head coach Chris Beard and his staff are looking to bolster the roster for years to come, as based on this season and all the transfers they took in, there will be a lot of roster turnover.

Since Beard has taken over, the Longhorns basketball program seems to have a cachet to it that now has them in the mix for more top recruits than ever before. If you need proof, just look at the roster they assembled for this upcoming season led by the top transfer in all of college basketball Marcus Carr. He is also joined by five other top-31 ranked transfers who are looking to make some noise this season.

Beard has also experienced success in high school recruiting early on that quite frankly took former head coach Shaka Smart a lot longer to. The Longhorns currently a hold a commit from 2022 five-star point guard Arterio Morris, and are looking to bring in more top level talent like 2023 five-star point guard Caleb Foster out of the prestigious basketball powerhouse Oak Hill Academy.

Foster announced via Twitter that he officially received an offer from the Longhorns this week.

The 6-foot-4 guard holds offers from other programs such as Duke, Louisville, Stanford, and Virginia. Here is what 247Sports’ Brandon Jenkins had to say about Texas’ latest offer:

Foster is a tough and smart point guard with terrific size for the position. He has a mature floor game which is shown in his court demeanor and savvy. He plays with excellent poise and pace and makes sound decisions with the basketball. He has all the tools needed to run a team

Landing Foster seems like a long shot right now as he is currently projected to end up at Duke, but the only thing I have learned during Beard’s brief tenure as the Longhorns coach, is not to underestimate him.

Texas lands commitment from five-star point guard Arterio Morris

Chris Beard is unstoppable! Texas lands a commitment from an elite 2022 prospect in five-star point guard Arterio Morris.

Chris Beard is working his recruiting magic again.

On Saturday, the Longhorns picked up their first commit of the 2022 class in five-star point guard Arterio Morris.

The former Memphis commit is out of Lewisville, Texas and attends iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy. He is an electrifying player that has drawn comparisons to Ja Morant. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound point guard is ranked the No. 21 overall player in the 2022 class and the No. 4 overall player in the state of Texas according to 247Sports.

Morris chose Texas over Kansas, Oregon, and Georgia.

His commitment is just what Texas needs, as they will lose veteran guards such as Courtney Ramey, Andrew Jones, and Jase Ferbes after this season. Take a look at his sophomore mixtape to see how shifty and high-flying Morris is already.

Morris’ commitment is a great sign for Beard and his staff, as they are already attracting top high school talent without even playing a game yet. Texas’ 2022 class has the potential to be the highest ranked class since 2019, when the Longhorns hauled in the No. 17 class in the nation.
