Notre Dame Week 12 highlight — fumble recovery leads to touchdown

Notre Dame converts after the Xavier Watts fumble recovery.

After a slow start, No. 8 Notre Dame’s offense may have gotten untracked against the Virginia Cavaliers following a fumble recovery by [autotag]Xavier Watts[/autotag].

The Fighting Irish moved the ball 88 yards over 9 plays, taking 3:42 off the clock. The drive was capped off by an 8-yard touchdown pass from quarterback [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] to wide receiver [autotag]Jayden Harrison[/autotag].

The touchdown has given the Irish a 14-0 lead against Virginia late in the first half on Senior Day in South Bend.

Notre Dame Week 12 highlight: Xavier Watts recovers fumble

Notre Dame gets a big fumble recovery.

No. 8 Notre Dame has struggled to get its offense untracked on Senior Day in South Bend. The Fighting Irish were about to get the ball back from the Virginia Cavaliers when [autotag]Max Hurleman[/autotag] couldn’t handle a punt.

Virginia appeared poised to cash in the turnover for points when [autotag]Rod Heard II[/autotag] put his helmet on the ball, which was being carried by Kobe Pace. Notre Dame safety [autotag]Xavier Watts[/autotag] recovered.

The Irish now have the ball back and are driving about midway through the second quarter. Whether the Irish managed to score on this drive or not, at least they kept Virginia off the scoreboard for a little while longer.

The score remains 7-0 in favor of Notre Dame.

Notre Dame Week 12 highlight: Jeremiyah Love keeps TD streak alive

Jeremiyah Love keeps his streak alive.

Who else but [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag]?

The Notre Dame running back now has at least one touchdown in 10 straight games.

Love’s score came after the No. 8 Fighting Irish got a short field thanks to a mistake by the visiting Virginia Cavaliers.

Love ran the ball in from four yards out to cap a 4-play, 25-yard drive that took 1:52 off the clock.

Notre Dame will be looking to avoid the upset on Senior Day. So far, so good.

Notre Dame Week 12 highlight: Former Irish muffs kickoff

Notre Dame gets a gift to start the day.

No. 8 Notre Dame is hosting Virginia today, and the opening kickoff nearly turned into a Fighting Irish touchdown.

The thing is, the Irish were kicking off.

Former Irish player [autotag]Chris Tyree[/autotag] muffed the kickoff and Notre Dame special teamer [autotag]Max Hurleman[/autotag] appeared to recover it for a touchdown.

However, since it was a muff and not a fumble, by rule Notre Dame could not advance the ball.

Nevertheless, the Irish were setup with great field position to start their final home game at Notre Dame Stadium this year.

Is Howard Cross III playing today? Injury updates for Notre Dame defensive line

Notre Dame defensive lineman Howard Cross III is dealing with a left ankle injury. Here are the latest updates.

(This story was updated to add new information.)

No. 8 Notre Dame defensive lineman [autotag]Howard Cross III[/autotag] has a left ankle injury and will miss Saturday’s game against the Virginia Cavaliers.

The Fighting Irish have used a stout defense to push their way towards the College Football Playoff, and Cross has been one of their best, if not their best, defensive linemen all season long. His loss will hurt, though it is not expected to be long-term.

Graduate running back [autotag]Devyn Ford[/autotag] is also unavailable for today’s game.

Howard Cross injury update

Cross could return as soon as next week for the Irish’s tilt against No. 16 Army in New York.

“It’s not a long-term thing, but our doctors made the determination he’s going to be out this week,” Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman said Monday, according to the South Bend Tribune. “We hope to get him back the following week depending on how the rehab continues to happen.”

How long will Howard Cross be out?

Cross might miss just one game, but it’s hard to say for sure.

Notre Dame defensive linemen depth chart

[autotag]Rylie Mills[/autotag] and [autotag]Donovan Hinish[/autotag]will be tasked with stepping up — Mills had a monster game last week against Florida State. [Armel Mukam[/autotag] and [autotag]Sean Sevillano[/autotag] are other depth options.

Barth’s fastball has hit 90 mph.

Along with the athletic Jaisle, this marks two key signings for Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball within the past two days.

All eyes might be on football and basketball right now, but the baseball season will be here sooner than you think.

Hannah Hidalgo added to another key award watch list

Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo is being watched for a prestigious award.

Notre Dame sophomore guard [autotag]Hannah Hidalgo[/autotag] is on the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Wade Watch List. She’s among 15 players being watched as a potential winner of the oldest, most prestigious player of the year award.

She was a Region I finalist for the 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches All-American team last season. Hidalgo is averaging 23.5 points per game, 8 rebounds per game, and 6 steals per games through two games so far this season.
