Notre Dame Offers ’21 Texas Tackle Wykoff

After Notre Dame has missed out on a few of their offensive line targets, their attention has turned to Texas OT Wykoff.

Brian Kelly and his staff are searching for the best talent on the offensive line, and although it hasn’t been all rosey in the last week, OT Landon Tengwall committing to PSU yesterday and OG Greg Crippen decommitting and then committing to rival Michigan, the staff is still hard at work.

Yesterday the staff offered Texas offensive tackle Matthew Wykoff, a 6’6” three-hundred-pound tackle. Wykoff has an impressive offer list, as the Irish have joined teams like Auburn, Texas, USC, PSU and others for the lineman’s services.

Earlier this month Wykoff released a top 7 list of school, clearly prior to receiving the offer from Notre Dame, so that is something to keep an eye on. There is a real chance the Irish can be players in Wykoff’s recruitment, as the massive tackle might want to leave the state to play collegiately.

There will be a lot of eyes on what direction the Irish will go after missing out on some of their top targets on the offensive line up to date. The offer to Wykoff show’s that the staff is not content with taking projects and wants players will big upside.

Class of ’21 OT Tengwall Spurns Notre Dame, Selects Penn State

The recruiting back luck for Notre Dame continues as elite OT Tengwall decides to go in another direction.

This one seemed to be trending in the wrong direction for some time and today Maryland offensive tackle Landon Tengwall made his college choice to head to Happy Valley and play for James Franklin’s Penn State squad.

Tengwall is viewed as one of the best in the nation, so this is clearly a loss for Notre Dame. There are no wins in recruiting coming in second place, so now Brian Kelly and his staff will focus their efforts in a different direction.

In-state tackle Blake Fisher, a projected tackle, is currently the only committed offensive lineman for the 2021 Irish recruiting class, so the base is solid on that front. Tengwall would have been a very welcome addition, after the Irish have lost multiple commits, WR Deion Colzie and OG Greg Crippen (who yesterday committed to Michigan), in the last few weeks.

Now look for the staff to up the recruiting with Michigan tackles Garrett Dellinger and Rocco Spindler. They will surely look at some other new names as well, but not having spring visits along with the high school camp circuit not happening is slowing down prospect evaluation big time. The Irish staff will work hard at adding more talent on the offensive line, and hopefully soon the bad luck on the recruiting trail will come to an end soon.
