Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond will be playable in FIFA 23

Now you will be able to get Roy Kent red carded or score a goal with Jamie Tartt

Ted Lasso and his AFC Richmond side are coming to FIFA 23.

EA Sports announced that the protagonists of the hit show “Ted Lasso” would be fully playable on the upcoming video game, which will be released on September 30.

Users will be able to select Ted Lasso as a playable manager in Career Mode, or they can manage AFC Richmond by swapping them into any playable Career Mode league.

Richmond will feature all of its most recognizable players from the show, including Jamie Tartt, Dani Rojas, Sam Obisanya, Roy Kent, and Isaac McAdoo. EA Sports released a trailer that fittingly showed Kent getting sent off after a rough challenge on an opponent.

Additionally, the club’s home stadium of Nelson Road will also be integrated into FIFA 23.

FIFA 23 will be available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, PS4, and Xbox One on September 30.

FIFA 23’s anti-cheat software isn’t a hit with players

EA wants to combat stealthy new cheat software, but fans are less than pleased with their efforts.

Electronic Arts (EA) is beefing up FIFA 23 anti-cheat measures for PC players, the publisher announced in a lengthy new blog post. The new anti-cheat system operates at the kernel level, a program that works in a computer’s operating system. EA will install it automatically when users download the game. It only runs when the game is running, and uninstalling it also removes the anti-cheat system.

EA hopes to reduce the number of cheats that give players an unfair advantage in competitive play, either through cheats that alter gameplay or exploits that give them more FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) Coins they can use to acquire more FUT cards and recruit more players.

EA said in the blog post that FIFA 23’s anti-cheat will gather no data from the player’s computer.

“EA anti-cheat will only look at what it needs to for anti-cheat purposes in our games and we have limited the information EA anti-cheat collects,” senior director of game security Elise Murphy said. “EA anti-cheat does not gather any information about your browsing history, applications that are not connected to EA games, or anything that is not directly related to anti-cheat protection.”

Some fans weren’t convinced, though.

“It appears EA has decided to include spyware in their new FIFA 23 title that could potentially have access to everything on your computer,” one Twitter user wrote. “Even if EA remains honest, it creates a great attack vector for others to exploit. Great job EA!”

Other fans expressed concerns over how the anti-cheat system may affect mods. Murphy said cheaters often use single-player modes to reverse engineer games and create cheats they can then use in multiplayer modes. The software will work in single-player and offline mode to combat the issue, and some expressed concern over how that may affect mods for Career mode.

“The entire [Career] mode is held together at the seams with what appears to be duct tape,” one fan said on Discord. “The painful experience of the Career mode is why many content creators went to PC. It was to fix the game that you have not fixed.”

Giorgio Chiellini is tied with his fellow Italian, Toronto FC star Lorenzo Insigne, for the highest overall MLS rating with 84.

Two of Chiellini’s teammates with LAFC round out the top four, Gareth Bale and Carlos Vela, who are each rated 81 overall.

EA Sports has been releasing ratings gradually over the course of the week ahead of the game’s launch on September 30.

Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, Kylian Mbappé and Kevin De Bruyne all have a 91 overall rating, the best in the game.

Here are the top 10 MLS players in FIFA 23.

Pulisic on his FIFA 23 rating: ‘Pace and dribbling very happy, everything else is horrible!’

As Kai Havertz said: “73 [passing rating] looks like you can’t even pass the ball five meters!”

Count Christian Pulisic among the lengthy list of players who participate in the cherished annual tradition of griping about their FIFA ratings.

EA Sports has begun to unveil its player ratings for the upcoming FIFA 23, which will be released on September 20.

On Monday the top 23 men’s players in the game were revealed, as five players shared the top spot with a 91 overall rating.

Looking at his card he said with a laugh: “Right here looks great: pace and dribbling [I’m] very happy, everything else is actually horrible!”

Havertz added: “73 [passing rating] looks like you can’t even pass the ball five meters!”

Loftus-Cheek also chimed in: “Who’s the guy who does this? Is he a Tottenham fan?”

Pulisic was given a strong 87 rating for pace and an 86 for dribbling, but he was given 71 for shooting, 37 for defense, 73 for passing and 59 for physicality, with an overall rating of 82.

At least Pulisic wasn’t alone in feeling aggrieved in his rating.

Haverz said of his own ratings: “Pace is not fair, shooting is really not fair and passing also.”

EA is collaborating with Marvel on FIFA 23 FUT Heroes cards

Marvel Entertainment is designing superhero-themed player cards for FIFA Ultimate Team.

There are roughly six weeks left until FIFA 23 comes out. It’ll be the last game that Electronic Arts (EA) and Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) work on together, so naturally, now is the time for more wild crossovers.

On Monday, EA announced the return of Marvel FUT Heroes cards in FIFA 23’s Ultimate Team mode. First seen in FIFA 22, FUT Hero cards will transform numerous legendary soccer players into superheroes, complete with comic book cover-like artwork by Marvel artists. Each illustration will commemorate every athlete’s career-defining moments too. Some of the players getting this treatment include Landon Donovan, Claudio Marchisio, Yaya TourĂ©, and Park Ji-Sung. Take a look at some the covers below.

EA announced that these FUT Heroes cards will not be available until the World Cup mode for FIFA 23 releases on Nov. 11, 2022.

FIFA 23 is shaping up to be a big deal come release day on Sept. 30, 2022. Juventus FC is returning, HyperMotion2 works well, and even the grass looks good.

FIFA 23 will have loot boxes, EA confirms

Electronic Arts isn’t done with the controversial monetization system in this year’s FIFA installment.

It’s hard to believe that FIFA 23 is a final hurrah. After this year’s installment, the partnership between Electronic Arts (EA) and FIFA is over. Unfortunately, a rather ugly monetization system isn’t going away with it.

After more information on FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) came out, EA confirmed that the controversial FUT Packs (AKA loot boxes) will still be in FIFA 23. A section on the official website briefly mentions packs, so anyone hoping for otherwise is probably disappointed. In a statement to Eurogamer, an EA spokesperson explained why FIFA 23 still has loot boxes.

“We wholeheartedly believe that Ultimate Team and FUT Packs, which have been part of the game for more than a decade, are a part of FIFA that players love – fans love that the game reflects the real-world excitement and strategy of building and managing a squad. Giving players the choice to spend if they want to is fair,” EA said. “It’s worth saying that spending is entirely optional in our game, and we do not encourage spending over earning rewards through game play. FUT Packs work in just the same way whether they are paid for or earned, and most players don’t spend in game at all. For example, nine out of 10 FUT Packs opened in FIFA 22 were earned.”

That’s that, I suppose. It’s a shame FIFA 23 didn’t follow Overwatch 2’s lead.

Last month, the UK government (almost) took action against loot boxes but ultimately deemed the system isn’t gambling. Other countries around the world might not agree, though.

‘More of what fans want’ coming in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team

EA Sports Producer Michael Barnucz chats chemistry, crossplay and casuals

FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) is by far the most popular game mode in FIFA. The live service mode allows players to grind their time or (controversially) splash their cash to build the best sides in casual and ranked competition. It’s no surprise that EA Sports invests a lot in it.

It’s the long goodbye for FUT as we know it. FIFA 23 is the last installment of EA Sports’ soccer sim with governing body FIFA’s naming rights. EA Sports FC Ultimate Team EASFCUT – a lovely mouthful – comes next year. But will this year’s version hit the spot?

In an interview with GLHF, Michael Barnucz, line producer for FIFA Ultimate Team, was suitably stoked about the reveal, claiming “we’re excited to deliver more of what fans want in FUT 23.”

So, what’s new?

Pro Clubs and VOLTA FOOTBALL combined for FIFA 23, but no 11v11 crossplay

Pro Clubs deep dive announces new developments for FIFA 23.

Pro Clubs, by design, is FIFA with friends.

The most social game mode in the soccer sim, it lets players control one position on the pitch and play casual or competitively together. With EA Sports announcing crossplay, the loyal Pro Clubs community hoped that those with different consoles would finally be able to link up online. Sadly, that’s not here just yet, but we do have news ahead of FIFA 23’s September 30 release.

You can watch the FIFA 23 Pro Clubs deep dive on YouTube now.

Are the announcements made today enough to make it up to them, whilst EA work on developing 11v11? Let’s find out.

FIFA 23 wants us to get excited about grass, and other matchday experience updates

Among the stranger things FIFA 23 has announced in its presentation updates is the all-new hyper-realistic grass system.

Among the stranger things FIFA 23 has announced in its presentation updates is the all-new hyper-realistic grass system. Yes, EA Sports now has a game engine to make grass look more grass-y.

EA just announced a wave of updates to the visuals, audio, and overall matchday experience, all of which add to the overall soccer showcase. It’s the cherry on the cake stuff, but it is stacking up to be the best-looking FIFA yet.

Missed out on the FIFA 23 news so far? Well, it’s the last FIFA before a name change, there’s a woman on the cover, Juventus are back, we got hands on with HyperMotion2, and you can finally play as Jurgen Klopp in Career Mode.

But
grass?

[mm-video type=video id=01g9q71hd6cbr2yyf61g playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01g9q71hd6cbr2yyf61g/01g9q71hd6cbr2yyf61g-4c055eea1c260868957a1f3915df92c5.jpg]

It’s serious business in FIFA 23. At the producer showcase at EA Vancouver last month, senior art director Fab Muoio spent a surprising amount of time talking about the all-new grass system. No longer a flat, carpet-looking field, we now have blades of moving grass that flow and degrade. Yes, it does look better.

Previously, to get a worn-looking pitch, so it looks like a plowed field on a rainy Tuesday in December, players would have to adjust a slider in the game settings, and that was your lot. With the new grass system, it breaks down as the game goes on.

A seemingly odd use of EA Sports’ resources, but with every game its objective is to make the game look and feel more like soccer, and with a more 3D pitch to play on, it achieves exactly that. It’s also worth remembering that EA Sports develops the Madden NFL series, and has a brand new PGA Tour game coming out in 2023, so new grass benefits sports fans across games.

In our hands-on preview, it was satisfying to use the new hard slide tackle and churn up the pitch, leaving it scarred for the rest of the match. It also takes a beating if you hit a classic knee slide celebration after scoring. Groundspeople, look away
