Jim Harbaugh cited Ted Lasso as an inspiration for new Chargers coaching role

Jim Harbaugh: confirmed Ted Lasso fan.

If you’re wanting to know what vibes Jim Harbaugh plans to bring to the Los Angeles Chargers, look at the underdog squad AFC Richmond for inspiration.

While being introduced as the new Chargers coach, Harbaugh talked about his love for the Jason Sudeikis television series Ted Lasso and how he wants to be like the show’s titular coach in the way he leads the franchise.

While we’re sure that doesn’t involve every single Lasso strategy from the show, it’s a fascinating insight from how the new ball coach in Los Angeles plans to conduct business as he returns to the NFL.

“There are some things I’ve copied from Ted Lasso. I try to emulate Ted Lasso in a lot of ways,” Harbaugh told reporters during Thursday’s introductory press conference. “That’s one of the best [television shows].

“There’s a life lesson in every one of those episodes.”

Well, it sure sounds like Harbaugh will want his Chargers to be like goldfish and look ahead to the future as opposed to dwelling in past franchise failures.

We’ll see how Harbaugh does in his NFL return, but it sounds like he’s got part of his culture-building playbook down pat.

Jim Harbaugh invokes Ted Lasso in describing the state of Michigan football before Ohio State

Never change, Coach! #GoBlue

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Despite knowing he won’t be on the sidelines on Saturday in the biggest game of the season — perhaps of his career — Jim Harbaugh was loose and in a good mental state on Monday.

It’s been two weeks that the head coach has not been available to coach in a game due to his Big Ten suspension, which means he has the added pressure of keeping his team together amid controversy. But, it appears, Harbaugh feels good about where the program is, despite the in-season upheaval.

So for Saturday, he insists that the team retain its ‘one-track mind,’ while invoking AppleTV hit show, Ted Lasso.

“I go back to that, it’s like the Ted Lasso show: ‘Believe,’” Harbaugh said. “What comes out of that is ‘believe’ and I’m so proud, so proud of our team. Despite that noise, our locker room’s in one piece. And like Ted, for me, locker room’s like my mom’s bathing suits – like to see them in one piece.

“We’ve got that, and it’s amazing. And there’s so many lessons to be learned, many life lessons that that our young guys are learning at this age, and it’s how the world works. And keeping those priorities straight: faith, family, and football. We’re battle-tested and ready to go. And now it’s just, it’s all Ohio, week’s all about Ohio. Working really hard to get ready for this game. Using the hours, the minutes, the days to hone our focus, get prepared, playing, practice, and then go execute the game.”

Beyond the players, the coaches have extra responsibilities they didn’t have a few weeks ago. Sherrone Moore was already overseeing the offensive line while coordinating the offense, but he’s also added head coaching duties to his game day repertoire.

Harbaugh trusts not only the team he’s built but also the staff. They’re all pulling in one direction and even without him being in the stadium, he hopes that will pay the difference against the Buckeyes on Saturday.

“It’s really a battle-tested team. And empowering people,” Harbaugh said. “It’s really that –empowering our coaches, empowering our players and it’s just an amazing job that they’ve done. Amazing effort, and where our players have gone about things, coaches, players, I mean, I just think back over the last five, six weeks, especially, I mean, it’s just been like a high-pitched siren. Like a deafening, ear-piercing noise. And just after a while, you start tolerating it. And then before you know it, just block it out.

“So it’s stay on course. That’s what our team has done. And just keep the priorities right. And keep the priorities straight, which is faith, family, and football.”

Michigan and Ohio State kick off at noon EST at The Big House.

Ted Lasso’s Nate Shelly may have teased Season 4 or a spinoff

Did actor Nick Mohammed just sneakily reveal there’s more Ted Lasso on the way?

It’s been almost six months since the finale of the third season of Ted Lasso, an episode which seemingly resolved most of the ongoing storylines and left many fans believing the series had finished its run. But as we’ve seen many times in recent years, your favorite TV shows and movie franchises are rarely ever really over, and we may have just gotten a hint that Ted Lasso still has more in store for fans.

Actor Nick Mohammed, who portrayed “Wonder Kid” Nate Shelly for all three seasons of the series, posted a photo on Twitter reminiscing about the time he accidentally revealed a spoiler for the show’s third season. Mohammed then proceeded to possibly drop yet another spoiler…

Is Mohammed just having some fun or is this Team Lasso’s clever way of stealth-launching a fourth season (or perhaps spinoff)? There’s still no official word from either Apple or the producers of the show but we’ll be keeping an eye on this story.

Broncos had a perfect response to ‘Ted Lasso’ scene

Ted Lasso referenced the Broncos in a recent episode and Denver had a perfect response on Twitter.

In a recent episode of Ted Lasso (spoilers ahead), the soccer coach tells a story of his friend who grew up as a Denver Broncos fan in Missouri while being surrounded by fans of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Because all his friends hated the Broncos, Lasso’s friend had to watch the team win back-to-back Super Bowls by himself in the late 1990s. The coach regretted that in hindsight, saying he should have been there to support him.

After the coach tells that story, one of the show’s characters, “Jamie Tartt,” asks “What are [expletive] Denver Broncos?”

The team had a perfect response to the episode on Twitter, tweeting the character’s profile page to introduce themselves as the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos also wrote a message to the coach: “And @TedLasso, it’s okay. But next time, share that seven-layer dip with your friend while watching us win back-to-back Super Bowls. 🫶”

Jason Sudeikis, the actor who portrays the coach, is a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs in real life, Well done by Denver’s social media team.

Twitter reacts to ‘Ted Lasso’ referencing the Denver Broncos

Spoilers ahead: The latest Ted Lasso episode makes reference to the Broncos.

Spoilers ahead!

Without getting too deep into the spoiler specifics, the latest episode of Apple’s popular Ted Lasso show makes reference to the Denver Broncos.

In the episode, the coach recalls a story of his friend who grew up a Broncos fan surrounded by Kansas City Chiefs fans. Lasso mentions that the friend had to watch the team’s back-to-back Super Bowl wins in the late 1990s alone, something the coach regrets in hindsight.

While the show mentions Denver’s first two Super Bowl titles, Lasso also makes a jab at the club during the story, calling them a “garbage-ass team.”

Jason Sudeikis, the actor who portrays Ted Lasso, is a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs in real life, so it’s no surprise that he wanted to take a shot at their rival in the popular TV show.

Here’s a sampling of how Twitter reacted to the Broncos being referenced in this week’s episode of Ted Lasso.

Trent Crimm’s Dolly Parton t-shirt broke the internet in the new Ted Lasso episode

Trent Crimm + Dolly Parton = Perfection

Trent Crimm (formerly of The Independent) has come a long way from the journalist that doubted every move new Richmond head coach Ted Lasso made in the first episode of the hit Apple TV+ comedy. In Season 3, Crimm has left behind the daily football beat so he can focus his efforts on Richmond and Lasso in an upcoming book.

A few episodes ago, we learned Crimm is gay, and he has since acted as a mentor for the then-closeted Colin Hughes.

Brilliantly portrayed by James Lance, Crimm has evolved from a side foil into a beloved member of the show. In this week’s latest episode — La Locker Room Aux Folles — Crimm broke the internet with his fashion choices, namely a blazer over a particularly cool Dolly Parton tee.

Everybody loved it.

Kola Bokinni and Cristo Fernández from Ted Lasso surprised Dolphins fans by announcing a Miami draft pick

Ted Lasso and the 2023 NFL Draft collided on Saturday.

Two members of the Ted Lasso cast traded actual football for American football on Saturday as they announced a 2023 NFL Draft pick.

Actors Kola Bokinni (Isaac McAdoo) and Cristo Fernández (Dani Rojas) sported Miami Dolphins kits while standing in an empty Tottenham Spurs Stadium as they announced Miami’s selection of Stanford tight end Elijah Higgins.

As Ted Lasso winds down its final season, fans were likely delighted to see these show stars in a setting where you might not normally expect them to be.

As for Higgins, well, if he’s a Ted Lasso fan, this is a heck of a way to see your draft selection announced on live television.

It’s always fun in the NFL Draft’s later rounds for surprises like this to pop up, and it’s doubly fun for Ted Lasso fans to see two of AFC Richmond’s finest announcing a pick.

While we know Ted Lasso himself is a Kansas City Chiefs fan, this is also a pretty cool moment for the Dolphins.

Sudeikis: Winning will end ‘Ted Lasso’ stigma around American coaches

“If American coaches came into this league and won a whole bunch of games it would probably go away”

Jason Sudeikis has said there’s an easy solution for American coaches who are battling the stigma around his show “Ted Lasso” — win some games.

After being named Leeds head coach last year, Jesse Marsch admitted that the hit Apple TV show may not have helped perceptions around American managers in Europe.

“I think there’s probably a stigma. I’m not sure ‘Ted Lasso’ helped. I haven’t watched the show, but I get it,” Marsch said at a news conference in March 2022.

“People hate hearing the word soccer — I’ve used the word football since I was a professional football player. More and more in the States we’re adapting to what the game here is, and our connection to what this league is and what the sport is in this country.”

In the show Sudeikis plays Lasso, who takes over fictional Premier League team AFC Richmond despite having almost no knowledge of the sport.

In an interview with Gary Neville on Sky Sports, Sudeikis said he hasn’t had the chance to speak to Marsch, but brushed aside any concerns that the show could be unfairly stigmatizing American coaches in Europe.

“That’s not the intention at all and I haven’t had the opportunity to apologize or explain myself yet with Jesse Marsch,” Sudeikis said.

“I think it’s a little lazy of anybody to correlate the two, but that’s never our intention to make things more difficult. But I do know that ultimately, if American coaches came into this league and won a whole bunch of games, that would probably go away.”

After the interview was released Marsch responded on Twitter, saying: “No worries @jasonsudeikis! I’m a big fan!!”

After nearly a year in charge, Marsch was sacked as Leeds manager in February with the club close to the relegation zone.

Aaron Rodgers arriving at the Jets’ facility led to so many Ted Lasso jokes

Is Aaron Rodgers a real-life Zava?

A star player known for his, uh, quirky beliefs and behaviors being brought in to lift up a team known for underachieving?

Is that the latest season of Ted Lasso? Nope, that’s the Aaron Rodgers trade to the New York Jets.

But even Rodgers’ look is a little like that of Zava, the international footballer brought in to play for AFC Richmond in Season 3.

And with footage — some of it slow motion, of course — of Rodgers walking into the Jets’ facility after the trade from the Green Bay Packers was officially completed, there were so many jokes on Twitter:

Ted Lasso’s Dani Rojas finally got to see a tulip and it was, in fact, overwhelming

This is everything we wanted. A tulip for Dani.

In last week’s episode of Ted Lasso, “Sunflowers,” the extremely lovable and wonderful Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernandez) wanted to do one thing while in Amsterdam for a friendly against Dutch club Ajax.

While the rest of his team wanted to see an, umm, adult show or go to an all-night rave, his desires were much simpler. He wanted to see a tulip.

No, not a field of tulips. Just one.

MORE: Which of Rebecca’s psychic’s predictions have already appeared on Ted Lasso?

“An entire field will be incredibly overwhelming,” the character explained.

The team ended up having a pillow fight, but fret not. Dani Rojas got to see his tulip!

Well, Fernandez did, but it was perfect and everything we wanted.

“Today I found an entire field of tulips and you know what? It was indeed incredibly overwhelming… and beautiful just as Dani said,” the caption read with a smiling emoji.

A wonderful and fulfilling ending to the tulip saga.
