Chiefs FB Anthony Sherman wants to return to Kansas City in 2021

Sherman is a pending free agent but he wants to win more rings and knows Kansas City is the place to do it.

Kansas City Chiefs FB Anthony Sherman joined NFL Network’s GMFB on Friday morning to recap Super Bowl LV and talk about the future.

The 32-year-old fullback has been a mainstay in Kansas City since he was acquired by former GM John Dorsey in a trade sending CB Javier Arenas to the Arizona Cardinals in 2013. This year he was among the longest-tenured players on the roster along with Travis Kelce and Eric Fisher.

Sherman has been signing one-year contract extensions with the Chiefs dating back to the 2018 NFL season. He’s set to become a free agent once again at the start of the new league year, but Sherman told the GMFB crew that he’d be interested in a return to Kansas City. Sherman seems to expect things to play out as it has in previous years.

“Well, in my mindset, I’ve kind of done this the last three or four years,” Sherman told Nate Burleson. “Obviously, what I deserve is completely different than what I want. I will probably do whatever I can to get back to Kansas City just because — I want rings. And in Kansas City, that’s where you’re going to get them. So I definitely want to go back to the Chiefs and be part of that team.”

As for Super Bowl LV, Sherman doesn’t have all the answers about the disappointing performance from the Chiefs. In his estimation, there were a lot of little mistakes that prevented the team from getting into a groove offensively.

“I can’t really pinpoint one thing,” Sherman told Kyle Brandt. “I think it was just a combination of a lot of little mistakes that took place that didn’t let us get in our groove and click on the offensive side of the ball. When we’re moving in, driving, there’s a penalty or a dropped pass or a missed protection. There were just a bunch of little things that ended up leading to just not executing in the red zone.”

Despite the diminishing role of the fullback position around the league, Andy Reid, Eric Bieniemy and Dave Toub all find ways to use Sherman. He caught a touchdown pass against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3, he’s sltil used in a number of blocking situations on offense and he continues to be a leader for the special teams unit.

It’s not clear if Sherman will be back with the Chiefs in 2021 given the constraints related to the salary cap, but it seems like he’s still very committed to this franchise and working toward winning another championship. Those are the types of guys you want in the locker room.

Are SEC coaches fueding over scheduling?

ahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel shared that some coaches in the SEC were upset with how the extra conference only games were added to each schedule

With just over a month until the (hopeful) start of the college football season, there have been many recent changes to this season including: cancelling non-conference games, player/coach practice regulations due to the coronavirus, and even adding more conference-only games to the schedule.

Some teams and coaches in the SEC were happy with the teams added to their conference only schedule, but according to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel, some coaches in the SEC were evidently upset with how the extra conference only games were added to each schedule.

Teams like Alabama favored from the schedule change since they added the Missouri Tigers and Kentucky Wildcats Bulldogs to their 2020 schedule.

But teams like Arkansas didn’t benefit at all. The Razorbacks added both Florida and Georgia. Missouri added both LSU and Alabama. And Tennessee added Auburn and Texas A&M.

Although the coaches weren’t named, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to think of the 5 coaches who would be most upset with the “formula,” of how these decisions were made.

But for those who think Alabama got away with an “easy” schedule, it’s important to remember that Georgia, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Tennessee, LSU, Texas A&M, and Auburn were already on the Crimson Tide’s schedule.

5 of the teams on Alabama’s schedule now were ranked in the top 25 of the The Amway Coaches Poll.

And LSU, who were the national champions last season, added both Vanderbilt and Missouri to their schedule as well.

But That doesn’t mean the coaches don’t have a right to be upset there wasn’t a verbalized formula for how the extra teams were added to the schedule.

That’s something that’s legitimately frustrating.

I think it comes down to both the SEC and NCAA being transparent in how they’re making decisions.

Whether it be scheduling, or why certain decisions are being made, it there is more transparency and communication, I think there would be less frustration from everyone, especially coaches.

It’s also important to remember that this is uncharted territory for the SEC. They’re having to make decisions they’ve never had to make before, such as having an SEC only schedule, and the many coronavirus protocols.

But once again, just because it’s unchartered territory doesn’t mean the SEC can’t do a better job on making decisions along the way.

Chiefs re-sign FB Anthony Sherman

The Sausage is back in Kansas City for the 2020 NFL season.

The Kansas City Chiefs have brought back FB Anthony Sherman on a one-year deal.

According to a recent report from Yahoo Sports’ Terez Paylor, Sherman will rejoin the Chiefs for the 2020 NFL season. Kansas City remains one of the few teams in the NFL to utilize the fullback position. Sherman is a leader on special teams and he’s a player that makes his opportunities on offense count the most.

In Super Bowl LIV, Sherman had a key block, clearing the way for RB Damien Williams’ final score. That score gave the Chiefs an 11-point lead over the San Francisco 49ers late in the 4th quarter.
