Far Cry 6 will be free to play this weekend

PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players can try the game out.

If you missed out on Far Cry 6 back at launch, worry not – it’ll be free to play soon.

On Tuesday, Ubisoft announced that Far Cry 6 will be free from Feb. 16 through until Feb. 20, 2023, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It is a limited-time trial, but there’ll also be a considerable price cut – up to 70 percent off. The discount varies slightly depending on which version you want.

As for what you’ll be getting, there’s (of course) Far Cry 6’s base game, along with its crossover missions that take inspiration from Rambo: First Blood and Stranger Things. It’s also playable in co-op, so you and some friends can cause chaos in a tropical island paradise together! Spreading the love and all that good stuff.

All progress made during the trial carries over to the full release as well – though you’ll have to actually buy Far Cry 6 to keep playing after the trial period ends, of course.

Far Cry 6 came out back in 2021, and at the time, GLHF’s Paolo Sirio thought it was solid but also a reminder that the series needed a shakeup. Since thing, there have been rumors of standalone multiplayer Far Cry, but that remains a mystery.

Fishing games that’ll get their hooks in you

Fish games aren’t at the beating heart of the video game industry, unless you count COD.

Fishing video games aren’t at the beating heart of the video game industry, it’s fair to say. Well, not unless you count COD.

But this ancient activity crops up quite a lot in games that don’t otherwise profess to be simulators of it, often providing a welcome diversion from the tiring business of saving worlds. Then there are the more laser-focused titles that accept their niche appeal and simply do their damndest to convey every detail of the sport in a palatable and enjoyable fashion.

Not to mention the unfathomable spike in fishing minigames that have popped up over the years in even the most high-budget titles. It’s a practice that started off as a bit of a meme, but so many games have done it that the whole thing has come full circle and people really like them.

Like a trawler using banned EU nets, we’ve scoured the very depths and then picked out only the very best depictions of fishing in games for your delectation. Please enjoy, and forgive that earlier COD pun. Just be thankful I scrapped my first idea about It Takes Tuna.

Far Cry 6 is free this weekend

Try out the open world FPS just in time for the Stranger Things crossover event.

Ubisoft is letting anyone try out Far Cry 6 at no cost whatsoever for the next few days.

Far Cry 6 will be free from March 24 through March 27, 2022, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store. As part of the trial period, Far Cry 6 will be 60 percent off, while the Season Pass will be 35 percent off. We’ll link to each version below.

Far Cry 6 free trial discount

Please note that some of these deals won’t go live until Thursday to coincide with the Strange Things crossover mission. Yeah, it’s an off collaboration. But hey, free stuff!

GLHF’s Paolo Sirio wasn’t the biggest fan of Far Cry 6 back when it came out last fall, mainly because not much about the formula changed from previous entries. However, it’s worth checking out for the cost of zero dollars and zero cents. Plus, you’ll get to hang out with those adorable puppies.

Pagan Min returns in Far Cry 6’s second DLC chapter next week

More bad guys are on the way.

Far Cry 6  is about to get its second major DLC, and a familiar face will headline this chapter.

Pagan: Control, which pits players against Far Cry 4  villain Pagan Min, is coming out next week. Apparently, this DLC chapter will incorporate roguelike elements as you delve into the sycophantic psyche of a fan-favorite big bad. Who doesn’t love catching up with an old friend, anyway?

To access Pagan: Control, you’ll need to own Far Cry 6 along with its season pass. The first DLC chapter, Vaas: Insanity, came out last November, with the third and final DLC Joseph: Collapse  releasing later down the line. If you’re not into the idea of buying the season pass, Vaas: Insanity  was sold separately for $14.99, so Pagan: Control  should be in that ballpark as well.

Anyone new to Far Cry 6  would do well to check out our guides for the game, which includes how to  find all of the Amigos. Collectibles are always a nightmare to discover on your own, so avoid the headache by reading our notes.

Pagan: Control  will launch Jan. 11 simultaneously on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Amazon Luna, Google Stadia, and PC.

Giancarlo Esposito believes video games that portray real-world issues are ‘very important’

The actor came away from his Far Cry 6 role impressed with the medium’s storytelling potential.

Video games are often about escapism but Giancarlo Esposito thinks it’s vital that the medium reflects our world, BBC  reported Tuesday

Esposito wasn’t all that knowledgeable about video games when he stepped into the role of Anton Castillo in Far Cry 6. Yet, he came out of the experience impressed by how it mirrored real-world politics.

“I think it’s really all a part of the tapestry of what’s going on in the world,” Esposito said via BBC. “And if you’re not making a game that doesn’t reflect some of what the world is going through right now, then there’s no real relationship to you.”

The actor then states that it’s “very important” that games delve into these sorts of issues. As it “makes [games] current and contemporary, expressive, and relatable to an audience,” Esposito said via BBC

“You’re not just sitting there, watching entertainment,” Esposito said via BBC. “You’re able to be that leader of [guerilla army] Libertade, who has to make decisions to be able to take back the country. That interaction is placing you in that first-person situation where you have to take responsibility for others. That’s different than just you know, surfing on the couch, watching a film that’s very exciting, but doesn’t have you do much other than be a viewer.”

Wonder if Danny Trejo feels the same way. After all, he’s in Far Cry 6 too — or he was until Ubisoft removed him

‘Far Cry 6’ accidentally adds Danny Trejo, then immediately removes him

You can’t just take Machete away like that!

Someone over at Ubisoft pushed out a Far Cry 6 update with Danny Trejo in it, only to patch him out right away.

The actor will star in a small DLC mission for Far Cry 6 called Dani & Danny vs. Everybody, which was is part of the game’s post-launch content. The mission wasn’t supposed to release for a while, but a patch released on Wednesday included it by mistake. Oops.

“The Dani & Danny vs. Everybody mission is a work-in-progress and was accidentally released early,” Ubisoft said on Twitter. “We’re working to remove it and look forward to when players can check out the final version.”

Ubisoft went on to apologize to fans. Which they should, because plopping Danny Trejo into a game only to immediately snatch him away is downright cruel.

Despite the short window of opportunity, some fans managed to get in some quality time with Trejo. Good for them!

Far Cry 6  came out last month, and we found it to be pretty solid, if not a little long in the tooth. Though if you’re looking for a first-person shooter that’ll eat up plenty of hours, it’ll do the trick. You’ll even get to hang out with Giancarlo Esposito, and Ubisoft likely won’t remove him. Better not, anyway.

‘Far Cry 6’: How to find all Amigos

Who wouldn’t want Far Cry 6’s sausage dog?

Like other games in the series, Far Cry 6 features animal companions — called Amigos — that can assist you in and outside of combat. Far Cry 6’s Amigos range from a sprightly little dachshund pup named Chorizo to the mythical panther Oluso. They’re primed and ready to fight for you as you travel throughout the most dangerous regions of Yara.

In this guide, we’ll help you find all Amigo locations in Far Cry 6, excluding DLC pets. It takes a long time to beat Far Cry 6, so you might as well have some companions. If you want to collect all five main Amigos, you’ll need to visit a specific location on the map and complete a series of side quests to bring home your new best friend (or hungry alligator, same thing). It isn’t always clear how you should approach obtaining each Amigo, but that’s why we’ve listed everything you need to know about their locations below.

If you’ve been waiting to get your hands on the absolutely adorable Chorizo or you think plucky rooster Chicharron is more your speed, you can refer to this guide to help get either one.

Still on the fence? Check out our Far Cry 6 review.

Far Cry 6: All Amigos, Challenges, and Abilities

There are five main Amigos you can recruit during the Far Cry 6 campaign. Two are optional additions that come as pre-order and DLC bonuses. The core animal compadres need only be unlocked by playing through their required side missions. Each Amigo also comes saddled with several challenges that must be completed to unlock active and passive abilities.

Guapo

Guapo-Far-Cry-6

Species: Crocodile

Abilities:

  • Ancient Survivor
    • Guapo passively recovers health while in battle and can self-revive after being downed in combat.
  • Body Regulation
    • Guapo automatically regenerates health during combat. Unlock this ability after having Guapo revive himself five times.
  • Cornered Beast
    • Guapo becomes more resistant to damage when his health falls below 50%. Unlock this ability after having Guapo regenerate 3,000 Health during combat.
  • Reptile Metabolism
    • Guapo can auto-revive with 90% of his health restored. Have him eliminate 50 targets to improve his original auto-revive ability.

How to Unlock Guapo: You can unlock Guapo as part of the main Far Cry 6 campaign. After starting the mission “Juan of a Kind” and meeting with Juan Cortez, you’ll automatically be introduced to the tiny gator with a big personality. Complete the mission and Guapo will be added to your menagerie of helpful pets.

Chorizo

Chorizo-Far-Cry-6

Species: Dog

Abilities:

  • Attention-Seeker
    • Chorizo piles on the charm to keep enemies distracted so you can sneak past them and pull off surprise attacks.
  • Bloodhound
    • Chorizo can tag materials to pick up near you. Unlock this ability by having Chorizo distract ten enemies.
  • Yes, You Can
    • Give Chorizo some nice pets to regenerate some of your health. Unlock this ability by having Chorizo tag 36 loot containers.

    • Chorizo will scout out items to dig up for you. Unlock this ability by using the Yes, You Can ability 50 times.

How to Unlock Chorizo: Play through the Montero-centric campaign storyline, which you’ll be able to pursue early on. Meet Philly Barzaga near Costa Del Mar, which will be marked on your map. Begin the mission Meet the Monteros at Montero Farm to kick off your journey with Chorizo. You’ll need to complete the missions “Who’s a Good Boy?” and “Fetch Quest” to eventually add him to your roster as a permanent Amigo.

Chicharron

Chicharron-Far-Cry-6

Species: Rooster

Abilities:

  • Roid Rage
    • Chicharron attacks faster, dealing additional damage if his health has fallen below 70%. Unlock this ability by having Chicharron kill 12 enemies.
  • Angrier Bird
    • Knock enemies down to the ground to incapacitate them. Unlock this ability by having Chicharron kill 12 enemies in Roid Rage mode.
  • Chicken Feet

How to Unlock Chicharron: You must first be able to traverse the Sierra Perdida region in El Este before you can set off to collect this rooster. You’ll need to complete the Yaran Story “Man’s Best Enemy” to proceed. Complete the series of missions that follow to help Chicharron scrawl graffiti on a water tower and a bunch of other bizarre things, and you’ll welcome this murderous fowl into your team of Amigos soon enough.

Boom Boom (Boomer)

Species: Dog

How to Unlock Boom Boom: This holdover from Far Cry 5 returns to be your best friend once again. First, unlock the mission “Boom or Bust” from Juan Cortez. Check shipping containers around the area when you arrive at the point marked on your map to unlock one of gaming’s best boys. That should take you to the Western side of Valle de Oro, around Feroza. Keep searching through shipping crates to find this adorable, furry friend.

Oluso

Species: Panther

Abilities:

  • Mimi Abosi’s Luck
    • Oluso will receive improved stealth abilities that can be used for stealth kills in combat. Unlock this ability by having Oluso kill 12 enemies found in restricted areas.

    • Oluso’s takedowns will cause enemies to flee when seen. Unlock this ability by having Oluso kill 24 enemies with takedowns.
  • Mist of Oku
    • Oluso will shroud himself in smoke when below 50% health. He’ll receive health regeneration, damage immunity, and increased stealth. Unlock this ability by having Oluso scare off 50 enemies.

How to Unlock Oluso: This mystical panther is an amazing addition to your team. First, you must unlock the mission “Traida Blessings,” which will take you to Isla Santuario. Find the Oluwa Cave east of Clara’s Camp and head in to start the hunt for three relics scattered throughout Yara. Complete the mission, return to Oluwa Cave, and receive a new Supremo and Resolver. Then grit your teeth and fight off the spectral panthers that attack. You’ll find that one of them is Oluso. Defeat him and he’ll decide to join you.
