Fantasy football Week 15 waiver wire adds: Playoff pickups and planning for the finals

Highlighting the top five fantasy football waiver wire adds for Week 15, with Week 14 breakouts and Week 16 matchups to target.

The fantasy football playoffs roll into the NFL’s Week 15. Whether your league’s playoffs are just beginning or you’ve made it to the semifinals, SportsbookWire has you covered. Below, we look at the top fantasy football waiver wire adds and injury replacements for Week 15.

Fantasy football Week 15 waiver adds

Miami Dolphins RB/WR Lynn Bowden Jr.

Bowden benefited from multiple injuries in Week 14. With RBs Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed ruled out before the game, and WRs DeVante Parker and Jakeem Grant leaving during the contest against the Kansas City Chiefs, Bowden played a season-high 59 offensive snaps.

He finished with 7 receptions for 82 yards on 9 targets and added a 2-yard carry while even attempting a pass. The Dolphins should have a positive game script against the New England Patriots at home in Week 15 and they’ll have a favorable road matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 16. Bowden will be a plug-and-play FLEX option so long as just one or two of his aforementioned teammates remain sidelined.

Green Bay Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Valdes-Scantling’s up-and-down season continues. The third-year pro caught all 6 of his targets for 85 yards and scored his fifth touchdown of the season against the Detroit Lions in Week 14. He leads the league with 19.5 yards per reception and is holding off Allen Lazard for the No. 2 role opposite Davante Adams in the Packers’ passing game.

The Packers have highly-favorable home matchups against the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans in Weeks 15 and 16, respectively. MVS is a high-ceiling WR3/FLEX option.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Keelan Cole Sr.

Cole is among the Jaguars receivers with the most experience alongside QB Gardner Minshew, who returned under center in Week 14. The two connected for a 5-yard touchdown in the third quarter of Sunday’s lopsided loss to the Titans, and Cole finished with 7 catches for 67 yards on 12 targets.

WR DJ Chark is likely to be the primary beneficiary if Minshew draws the Week 15 start at the Baltimore Ravens, but Cole is more widely available. He’s also a more reliable touchdown threat, while Chark depends on breaking long catch-and-run plays.

Atlanta Falcons RB Ito Smith

The Falcons (4-9) have nothing left to play for in three final games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (twice) and Kansas City Chiefs. RB Todd Gurley has been ineffective all season and will be a free agent in March. It’s time for Atlanta to give Smith a proper shot to see if he can be at least a short-term solution in 2021.

Smith had another 11 carries for 42 yards while playing 25 offensive snaps in Week 14. He’s a FLEX option in hopes he can get 12-15 carries and have a shot at a short, goal-line attempt.

New Orleans Saints WR Emmanuel Sanders

Saints QB Drew Brees is expected to return from injury in Week 15 and will drastically improve the fantasy appeal of all Saints pass-catchers. Sanders was able to get into the end zone while making just 3 catches in Week 14, but he failed to hit 50 yards for the third straight time with Taysom Hill under center.

Sanders’ production was highly volatile, even with Brees at the helm of the offense, but he’ll finish the season against the Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings and Panthers in what are likely to be high-scoring shootouts. He’ll be a safe WR3 in all three games.

Fantasy football Week 14 waiver wire adds: Playoffs are here!

Highlighting the top five fantasy football waiver wire adds for Week 14 and the beginning of the fantasy playoffs, with injury replacements and players on the rise.

The fantasy football playoffs are here for most leagues. There are several breakout players from Week 13 available to be picked up by those fighting it out in the quarterfinals, while fantasy managers with a first-round bye can look ahead to the Week 15 and 16 matchups while trying to secure a fantasy championship. Below, we look at the top fantasy football waiver wire adds and injury replacements for Week 14.

Fantasy football Week 14 waiver adds

New York Jets RB Ty Johnson

Jets RB Frank Gore left the Week 13 game against the Las Vegas Raiders in the early going due to a concussion. Johnson picked up the work load and excelled with 22 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown while bringing in both of his two targets for another 13 yards.

It was an extremely rare positive game script for the now-0-12 Jets, but a Week 14 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks should still offer fantasy-scoring opportunities. Slide Johnson in as an RB2/FLEX option in Week 14, whether or not Gore is able to return.

Cleveland Browns WR Rashard Higgins

Higgins’ 9 targets in the Browns’ 41-35 road win over the Tennessee Titans ranked second on the team to Jarvis Landry‘s 10. Higgins made 6 receptions for a team-high 95 yards and a touchdown.

It was a breakthrough performance for the Browns’ passing attack. While it came in one of their more favorable matchups of the season, they’ll also get the New York Giants and Jets in Weeks 15 and 16, respectively. Higgins will offer WR3 production in the fantasy semifinal and final.

Denver Broncos WR Tim Patrick

Patrick was targeted just 4 times in Week 13, but he caught all of them for 44 yards and 2 touchdowns. The third-year pro is up to 5 TDs on the season and shares the team lead with 10 red-zone targets with 9 receptions inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.

The Broncos play the Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers in the next three weeks. All three allow opponents to score touchdowns on at least 60% of their red-zone appearances.

Washington Football Team RB Peyton Barber

Washington RB Antonio Gibson was forced from the Week 13 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a toe injury. The rookie had seized control of the backfield with 8 rushing touchdowns in his previous five games, but Barber now stands to take on the bulk of those touches.

He rushed 14 times for just 23 yards Monday evening, but he scored his third touchdown of the season. RB J.D. McKissic receives almost all of the work in the passing game and is the preferred waiver target, but Barber is rostered in far fewer leagues and will be a consistent touchdown threat for however much time Gibson is forced to miss.

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield

Mayfield had maybe his best game as a pro in Week 13 while completing 25 of 33 passes for 334 yards and 4 touchdowns against the Tennessee Titans. The bulk of that production came while staking the Browns to a 38-7 lead in the first 30 minutes.

Fantasy managers with a first-round bye (when the Browns host the rival Baltimore Ravens) should be looking ahead to the Week 15 and 16 matchups against the Giants and Jets. The Browns are now in contention for the AFC North title, so there’s no fear of key starters resting in the final weeks. Mayfield will be a must-start at the Jets in the fantasy championship.
