Do Jaguars plan to lean on James Robinson or Travis Etienne?

Travis Etienne got more snaps and yards than James Robinson in the last two weeks. Is that the Jaguars’ plan moving forward?

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been a fantasy football owner’s nightmare so far in 2022. Wide receivers Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Marvin Jones have all taken turns disappearing, while Jaguars coach Doug Pederson doesn’t seem to know what to do with running backs James Robinson and Travis Etienne.

In the first three weeks, Robinson was on the field for an average of 41 offensive snaps per game, racking up 230 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns, and one receiving touchdown. In the last two weeks, he averaged 26 snaps, nine carries, and 28 yards.

Etienne, 23, took a back seat to Robinson early in the season before getting a season-high 40 snaps in Week 5. But even that wasn’t enough as Pederson told reporters after the game that he messed up by not giving the ball more to Etienne, who finished with 114 yards on only 13 touches.

So now what?

Robinson is still at the top of the depth chart and will likely continue being the Jaguars’ back on rushing downs. Etienne appears set to spell him on third downs and passing situations.

“Sometimes you sit there and go, ‘Okay, who gets the ball now? Who gets the ball next?’ It’s a good problem to have, but at the same time you do what’s best for the football team,” Pederson said last week. “We’ve talked about this before, whoever has the hot hand during that game, you might give him a few more touches, but ultimately, we’re trying to win the game.”

Etienne getting the majority of the snaps in Week 5 was mostly because Pederson was riding — not enough, mind you — the “hot hand” after the second-year back picked up 68 yards on his first three touches. Don’t expect his performance against the Texans to mean Etienne is taking over as the Jaguars running back who will get the most touches in 2022.

Fantasy Football: Ja’Marr Chase has a high ceiling

It’ll be tough to pass on Chase if he’s as good of a prospect as most think, and the chemistry with Joe Burrow just adds to that intrigue.

The No. 1 priority for the Cincinnati Bengals should be keeping their franchise quarterback Joe Burrow upright and healthy. We don’t know all the details of what goes on behind closed doors but the odds are that Burrow wanted Ja’Marr Chase with the fifth overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, and the Bengals delivered upon Burrows wish.

Tough to argue with either side.

From a fantasy football perspective, it’ll be tough to pass on Chase if he’s as good of a prospect as most think, and the chemistry with Joe Burrow just adds to that intrigue.

Chase is fully expected to see A.J. Green’s departed 104 targets, and then some.

If you include the anticipated red zone targets due to Chases chemistry with Burrow, you could be looking at a top-20 season at the wide receiver position. For a rookie, that’s pretty solid.

If you look back at the history of rookie receivers and fantasy football, the data will suggest that the ones that have early success are typically drafted within the first two rounds of the draft.

  • Calvin Ridley
  • A.J. Brown
  • Justin Jefferson
  • A.J. Green
  • Chase Claypool
  • CeeDee Lamb
  • Julio Jones
  • Odell Beckham
  • Mike Evans
  • Kelvin Benjamin
  • Amari Cooper
  • Michael Thomas
  • JuJu Smith-Schuster

That’s quite the list of company and I firmly believe that a year from now we will be including Ja’Marr Chase to that list.

Fantasy Football diehards should get accustomed to drafting Ja’Marr Chase, in all formats.

Fantasy Football: 5 tight end sleepers to target for the 2020 season

These guys could be the key to a successful fantasy season.

NFL teams are all at the beginning of their training camp sessions. This is just the start of fantasy football season. Without the benefits of public training camps, joint practices, or preseason games, predicting who will be able to help your team will be even more difficult than normal.

Hopefully, football, and more specifically, the fantasy game, will help take the mind away from all the serious issues that are happening in the world today. And, if you need a little help putting together your roster, maybe this is the place for you.

While using FantasyPros.com rankings from their PPR format, we are able to determine that these five tight ends may be drafted too low. One of these guys could be a great value addition for your fantasy team.

 1. Eric Ebron, Steelers (ADP: 150th overall)

Michael Hickey/Getty Images

Ebron’s production dropped off in 2019, his final season with Indianapolis. He recorded 31 receptions for 375 yards and three touchdowns. However, the year prior was Ebron’s best season, finishing with 66 receptions for 750 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Now in Pittsburgh, Ebron is being drafted as the 20th tight end in fantasy football. With Ben Roethlisberger healthy, the 26-year-old tight end may be able to jump back up into TE1 production instead of the low TE2 he’s being drafted as.

An early fantasy football outlook for Buccaneers QB Tom Brady

An early fantasy football projection for what to expect from Buccaneers QB Tom Brady as he prepares to play for a new team.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady – still sounds bizarre – is slated to play for a different team for the first time since 1999. So what kind of numbers can we expect in 2020 from the six-time Super Bowl champion and three-time league MVP? Is Brady a safe or a risky fantasy selection?

There are a lot of variables to consider while speculating what kind of a season Brady will have. For starters, he will be without coach Bill Belichick for the first time in his professional career. Brady’s age is also a concern. But perhaps most important, Brady surrounded himself with an entirely new offensive skill group — one that’s a sizable upgrade from 2019.

ADP on Fantasy Pros: No. 112
Where we think you should take him: Third round
ESPN’s projected stats: 4,429 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, 10 interceptions
Our projected stats: 4,600 passing yards, 40 touchdowns, 11 interceptions

For Brady, it’s crunch time. In his world, this upcoming season could be the most important to date. Brady knows better than anyone: no one cares what he was able to do at age 40, 41 and 42. They only care what Brady can do at 43-years old for the 2020 Buccaneers. It will certainly be exciting to watch.

For those wondering what could have factored into Brady choosing Tampa Bay as his landing spot – look no further than the Bucs offense. Brady’s top weapons in 2020 feature wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, both of whom are top 10 projected receivers by ESPN. Evans has topped 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first six seasons in the league. Godwin ranked third in receiving yards in 2019 even after missing two games.

This new-and-improved Bucs offense will also feature Brady’s former Patriot teammate and good-buddy tight end Rob Gronkowksi. Fellow tight end O.J. Howard, a 6’6 first round pick in 2017, was also retained by the team after rumors of his departure circled for most of last season. The combination of Gronkowski and Howard could very well be an issue for defenses.

In the end, although it might seem obvious to select other quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers, don’t sleep on Brady. He is hungrier than ever, likely looking to prove to the world that he can get it done without Belichick, among other factors.
