Video: Falcons DE Dante Fowler Jr. on expectations for season

The Falcons added two of the top-10 picks from the 2015 NFL Draft during the offseason. Both DE Dante Fowler Jr. and RB Todd Gurley spent last season with the Rams before signing with Atlanta back in March.

The Falcons added two of the top-10 picks from the 2015 NFL Draft during the offseason. Both DE Dante Fowler Jr. and RB Todd Gurley spent last season with the Rams before signing with Atlanta back in March.

Fowler’s career got off to a slow start on a dysfunctional Jaguars team. He was traded to Los Angeles back in 2018 and finally put things together during the 2019 season, finishing with 11.5 sacks and 35 QB pressures.

Now 26 years old, Fowler appears to be entering his physical prime. The Falcons signed him to a three-year, $48 million contract and the former No. 3 overall pick sounds ready to prove himself.

Watch Fowler discuss his mindset entering the 2020 season following Tuesday’s camp practice, as shared by ESPN’s Vaughn McClure below:

Falcons training camp: Ricardo Allen coaches up young DBs

One thing that will help the Falcons’ young defensive backs is the presence of safety Ricardo Allen, whom head coach Dan Quinn credited with helping the team’s defensive turnaround over the second half of 2019.

Due to a lack of salary cap space, the Atlanta Falcons had no choice but to try and get younger this offseason. The biggest potential change will be at defensive back, where rookie corner A.J. Terrell essentially replaces Desmond Trufant.

The team signed veteran Darqueze Dennard, — who’s best utilized as a nickel corner — leaving Terrell, Kendall Sheffield and Isaiah Oliver to compete for the two outside corner spots.

It appears that Allen is picking up right where he left off. A video shared by ESPN’s Vaughn McClure shows Allen coaching up Atlanta’s young DBs, including Terrell at training camp. Check it out below:
