When the Falcons announced their 53-man roster for the 2020 season, it came the caveat that defensive end Steven Means would soon be activated from the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list.

On Tuesday, the team released linebacker Deone Bucannon to make room for Means on the active roster just days away from Atlanta’s home-opener against the Seahawks.

Bucannon, a former first-round pick back in 2014, signed in the offseason to give the add depth at the linebacker position. He was listed as Atlanta’s fifth linebacker on the depth chart that the team released Monday.

The Falcons made another move on Tuesday, signing OL Willie Wright to the practice squad, leaving one more spot for the team to add another player.

The Atlanta Falcons are set to fill out their 16-man practice squad this afternoon following Saturday’s final roster cuts. So far, the only name connected to the Falcons is quarterback Kyle Lauletta, a fourth-round draft pick by the Giants in 2018.

ESPN’s Vaughn McClure is reporting that Atlanta is set to sign Lauletta to the practice squad after he cleared waivers.

The team released both Lauletta and backup QB Kurt Benkert on Saturday. Fans were hoping to see Benkert make the 53-man roster but the Falcons instead opted to keep just two quarterbacks — Matt Ryan and Matt Schaub — despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
