Free agency: 20 remaining options for the Falcons

Looking at 20 remaining free-agent options for the Atlanta Falcons in 2022.

The Atlanta Falcons haven’t made a ton of signings since the start of free agency, but they have added a few new faces, including cornerback Casey Hayward, linebacker Lorenzo Carter and quarterback Marcus Mariota.

There are still plenty of holes to fill, though, and you can’t fix everything in the draft. Let’s check out 20 remaining free agents the Falcons could target.

Falcons CB Darqueze Dennard brings big value on small price tag

Despite using a first-round pick on Clemson CB A.J. Terrell, the Atlanta Falcons opened training camp with a glaring need for a veteran cornerback.

Despite using a first-round pick on Clemson CB A.J. Terrell, the Atlanta Falcons opened training camp with a glaring need for a veteran cornerback.

It looks like the team may have found a perfect fit in former Bengals first-round pick Darqueze Dennard, signing him to a one-year deal for less than a million dollars.

Dennard had an agreement in principal with the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this offseason for a three-year, $13.5 million deal, but it fell apart at the last minute.

Considering he was going to get roughly $4.5 million per year from the Jags, paying less than a million for an immediate upgrade and potential starter is a home run for Atlanta — especially considering the team’s lack of cap space.

The best case scenario for the Falcons this season would be having Terrell and either Isaiah Oliver or Kendall Sheffield starting on the outside, with Dennard playing the nickel corner role.

It’s a great value and fit for Atlanta as the team transitions away from many of the core pieces from its Super Bowl run in 2016.

Gurley took the news in stride on Thursday, playfully tweeting about having been fired on his day off. He agreed to terms with Atlanta the following morning.

Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire first reported Gurley’s expert session in subtle pettiness.

Georgia faithful took to Twitter following his release with asserting that Gurley would be a great fit for the Falcons, who recently released tailback Devonta Freeman.

The next day, football fans who exist in the middle of the Falcons-Bulldogs Venn diagram got their wishes fulfilled.
