Former USC cornerback Fabian Ross is heading to Hawaii

A former USC player will be on island time.

Former four-star cornerback Fabian Ross has decided to transfer from USC and take his talents to Hawaii. Ross spent two years at USC before transferring.

During his two years of playing time at USC, Ross saw action in only three games in his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Ross was ranked No. 176 in the 247Sports composite hailing from Las Vegas at Bishop Gorman High School.

Ross also had scholarship offers from Oregon, UNLV, Washington, Michigan, Notre Dame and more.

Ross said this when he originally committed to USC under then-coach Clay Helton:

“With the Covid-19 pandemic and everything going on, I didn’t have a chance to visit other schools so I wanted to get it over with and USC is the right decision for me,” Ross told 247Sports. “Coach Donté Williams is a great coach and I have known him for a while, just building a great relationship with him over the years. He actually coached my cousin, Damon Ogburn, when he was back in college at San Jose State and he’s always told me how great of a DB coach he is, so it’s only right that I’m committed there now and get things going.”

Michigan among teams pushing hardest for 2022 Bishop Gorman 4-star CB

When Sept. 1 rolled around, 2022 Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman four-star cornerback Fabian Ross heard from just about every school that’s been courting him thus far.

While Michigan’s head coach, Jim Harbaugh, wasn’t among his calls that day, it’s because he didn’t need to, as the two already had a lengthy video call some 30 days or so back.

“I actually got on a FaceTime with Coach Jim Harbaugh about a month ago, so I got to talk to him for about 30 minutes,” Ross told WolverinesWire. “It was a great experience talking to him. I talked to him for about 30 minutes long. It was a great conversation with him.

“He was just explaining how the school works and how he wants me there. He’s telling me all about Michigan, how practice has been going. He’s given me the run down of how Michigan works and how he wants me to be at their school.”

Michigan cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich is leading the charge in the No. 118 player in the nation’s — per 247Sports — recruitment. At 6-feet, 185-pounds, the pitch has been that Ross has an opportunity to compete for a starting role right away once he gets onto campus — something that’s rather appealing to the Las Vegas native.

But the important thing is the relationship he’s building with Zordich. The two have spoken multiple times a week for months now, but only now can Zordich initiate the call, per NCAA rules.

“It was May, ever since the end of May, I’ve been keeping in touch with him every week,” Ross said. “So two times a week, I’ve been keeping in touch with Coach Zordich. We’ve developed a pretty good relationship.”

Distance plays no factor for Ross, and he shares that he has family on his mother’s side living in Illinois.

At the moment, he has several schools coming after him, but he’s nowhere near a decision nor is he close to paring down his list of suitors.

Pursuing him the hardest, he says: “It’s Michigan, Washington, USC, Nebraska, Oregon, Notre Dame, Michigan State is reaching out and Arizona State.”

Ross didn’t grow up having a favorite school, but instead says he enjoys watching high-level college teams battle it out on the gridiron.

Notre Dames offers Bishop Gorman ‘22 athlete Ross

The Irish offer high school powerhouse athlete prospect Fabian Ross from Las Vegas’ Bishop Gorman.

The Notre Dame coaching staff has gone back to Las Vegas’ premier football high school, Bishop Gorman, and offered athlete Fabian Ross late last night.

The Irish have had some very good luck with Bishop Gorman prospects, as they have signed 4 total players from the private Catholic high school. Ronnie Stanley and Alize Mack are the biggest standouts, as Gorman typically has multiple Division I players on their team each year.

Ross is a great prospect, one that most likely start on the defensive side of the ball at cornerback. He shows great closing speed, is comfortable playing out on an island and has a great frame at 6-feet tall and 180-pounds. Ross has a very solid collection of offers at the moment, as the Irish joined Michigan, USC, Oregon, Penn State and others. He is rated at the 176th overall prospect and the 22nd corner in the country by the 247Sports composite rankings.

Brian Kelly and cornerback coach Mike Mickens would love to get another Gael on his roster and Ross would look great in the Blue and Gold. He is the 13th true cornerback that Notre Dame is recruiting in the 2022 class, but there are no commits at his position. Michigan’s Nolan Ziegler is a secondary commit, but he will play safety for the Irish. With three total commit in the ‘22 class, Notre Dame is off to a great start, as they have the 4th best class so far.
