NFL Week 4 picks: Who the experts are taking in Commanders vs. Cowboys

How many of the experts see the Commanders coming away with the win?

Can Dallas Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush go 4-0 in his NFL career as a starting quarterback? Or can Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz bounce back from his worst start of the young season?

The Cowboys [2-1] host the Washington Commanders [1-2] Sunday from AT&T Stadium in an important early-season NFC East matchup. The Cowboys opened as a favorite last week and have remained the steady favorite, with Rush remaining as the starting quarterback until Dak Prescott’s return.

How do the experts see this week’s matchup?

According to NFL Pickwatch, 86% of the experts pick Dallas to go over Washington. That’s better odds than Washington faced against the Eagles last week. Philadelphia jumped out to a 24-0 lead over the Commanders and, despite not scoring in the second half, held on for an easy 24-8 victory.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys defeated the New York Giants on Monday Night Football — their second consecutive win, both with Rush at quarterback.

Both teams need the win, but Washington desperately needs a victory coming off two straight losses.

Colts vs. Titans: NFL experts make Week 4 picks

Here are the expert picks for the Week 4 matchup between the Colts and Titans.

The Indianapolis Colts (1-1-1) are hosting the Tennessee Titans (1-2) at Lucas Oil Stadium for a Week 4 matchup.

While the Colts are favored at home by 3.5 points, according to Tipico Sportsbook, many are expecting a close battle between these two teams for the first time this season.

Here’s how the experts around the league see the divisional game shaking out:

Expert Pick Score (if applicable) Colts cover?
Nate Davis (USA TODAY) Titans 24-23 No
Jarrett Bell (USA TODAY) Titans 26-22 No
Vic Tafur (The Athletic) Colts Yes
Mike Clay (ESPN) Colts
Dan Graziano (ESPN) Titans
Gregg Rosenthal (NFL Network) Titans 20-14 No
Bill Bender (Sporting News) Titans 27-24 No
Pete Prisco (CBS Sports) Colts 26-20 Yes
Mike Moraitis (Titans Wire) Titans 23-20 No
Jess Root (Sportsbook Wire) Titans No
Cam DaSilva (Sportsbook Wire) Colts Yes
Bleacher Report Colts 23-21 No

Over at Tallysight, 57% of the analysts are choosing the Colts to win the game, but 60% are siding with the Titans to cover the 3.5-point spread.

This should be a tightly contested matchup. While the Colts match up well with their strong run defense against Derrick Henry, their own offensive line issues will make this game close.

The Colts may also be without defensive tackle DeForest Buckner due to an elbow injury, and it was a disaster the last time he missed a game against the Titans.

This game will have both immediate and future implications within the division. If the Colts win and the Jacksonville Jaguars lose, they take sole possession of first place. If the Titans win and the Jaguars lose, Tennessee will be tied for the division lead.

Expect a physical and potentially even ugly matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium as both teams look to get back on track following slow starts to the season.

College Wire editors predict the winner from each SEC game in Week 5

The College Wire’s SEC editors lay out their predictions in each of the conference’s seven games in Week 5.

Week 5 in the SEC has arrived with two teams enjoying the open week. The Tennessee Vols (4-0) and Vanderbilt Commodores (3-2) will return to action in Week 6.

In Week 4 the conference finished 6-0 in nonconference play. Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, and Auburn enjoyed winning their SEC matchups. For Week 5 there are a total of seven games featuring SEC teams and only two are of the nonconference variety.

South Carolina will host South Carolina State and Florida will host FCS opponent Eastern Washington on Sunday. The game was moved due to Hurricane Ian. Ole Miss is the final SEC team that will play a conference game, every other squad has at least one game under their belt.

A quick look at the SEC standings heading into this game:

West Team Conf Overall East Team Conf Overall
Alabama 1-0 4-0 Georgia 1-0 4-0
Auburn 1-0 3-1 Kentucky 1-0 4-0
LSU 1-0 3-1 Tennessee 1-0 4-0
Texas A&M 1-0 3-1 Florida 0-2 2-2
Ole Miss 0-0 4-0 Missouri 0-1 2-2
Arkansas 1-1 3-1 South Carolina 0-2 2-2
Mississippi State 0-1 3-1 Vanderbilt 0-1 3-2

As we do each week, the SEC editors on the College Wire network make their predictions for each conference game on the schedule.

Auburn Wire staff make their predictions for Saturday against LSU

The staff weighs in with their predictions and X-Factor selections.

It is a big matchup on Saturday when the LSU Tigers travel to Jordan-Hare Stadium for a date with Auburn. The home team has won the last two games in this series but trails the all-time mark 31-24-1. In the last 11 matchups at Jordan-Hare, Auburn is 8-3 against LSU. That stretch dates back to 2000.

This game has a bit more pressure on the home team. A recent report indicated that this could bump the timeline for a possible move at the head coach position for Auburn. It began last week against Missouri from insider Bruce Feldman that stated they could make a move as early as this past Monday had Missouri prevailed.

The SEC West matchup certainly isn’t lacking in storylines. Auburn quarterback T.J. Finley was the starter in this matchup two years ago at Jordan-Hare, but it was for LSU. Finley won’t suit up this week while he continues to recover from an AC sprain in his throwing shoulder. Wide receiver Koy Moore also played for LSU, and he will be on the field for Auburn this time around.

Auburn Wire Picks:

  • Patrick Conn: LSU 27, Auburn 13
  • River Wells: LSU 28, Auburn 17
  • JD McCarthy: LSU 31, Auburn 14
  • Taylor Jones: Auburn 14, LSU 13

The USA TODAY Sports SEC Network also weighed in on who would win:

  • Emily Adams, Greenville News: LSU
  • Kevin Brockway, Gainesville Sun: LSU
  • Brett Dawson, Courier-Journal:  LSU
  • Bennett Durando, Montgomery Advertiser: LSU
  • Aria Gerson, Tennessean: LSU
  • Nick Kelly, Tuscaloosa News: LSU
  • Stefan Krajisnik, Clarion Ledger: LSU
  • Christina Long, Southwest Times Record: LSU
  • Koki Riley, Daily Advertiser: LSU
  • Adam Sparks, Knoxville News Sentinel: LSU
  • Matt Stahl, Columbia Daily Tribune: LSU
  • Nick Suss, Clarion Ledger: LSU
  • Marc Weiszer, Athens Banner-Herald: LSU

With the predictions out of the way, the Auburn Wire staff makes their selections for the X-Factor of the game.

NFL Week 3 picks: Who the experts are taking in Commanders vs. Eagles

It’s no surprise that the experts overwhelmingly favor the Eagles in Week 3.

The Washington Commanders face off against the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday from FedEx Field in an NFC East showdown.

This is a big game for both teams as they battle for divisional supremacy early in the season. Division games are critical, even in September, especially in a division that is expected to be wide open, such as the NFC East.

As you might expect, the Eagles come to FedEx Field as almost a touchdown favorite. So, it’s no surprise many of the experts picked Philadelphia in Week 3.

According to NFL Pickwatch, 97% of the expert pickers for Sunday’s battle favor the Eagles.

There is also an emotional element in this game. It’s the first time Washington quarterback Carson Wentz faces the team that selected him No. 2 overall in 2016. Wentz spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Eagles.

Wentz and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts have been outstanding thus far in 2022. Can Wentz make his old team pay and pull off the upset Sunday?

NFL Week 3 picks: Who the experts are taking in Rams vs. Cardinals

The experts are leaning heavily toward the Rams in Sunday’s contest against the Cardinals

It’s been eight years since the Rams lost to the Cardinals in Arizona. Los Angeles has had the Cardinals’ number in the last five years, too, going a near-perfect 10-1 against Arizona since Sean McVay arrived in 2017.

They’ll try to make it 11-1 by beating the Cardinals on Sunday, a game in which they’re favored by 3.5 points despite being on the road. NFL experts like the Rams’ chances of winning, with most of them picking Los Angeles this weekend.

According to NFL Pick Watch, 87% of experts are taking the Rams to win outright. Six teams are more heavily favored by experts this weekend. With the spread factored in, 68% of experts are taking the Rams to cover the 3.5-point margin. That’s a sign of confidence from pundits that the Rams could win by more than a field goal on Sunday.

Los Angeles is pretty banged up coming into this game, but it’s a game that’s still very winnable, especially given the success the Rams have had against Arizona in recent years.

Colts vs. Chiefs: NFL experts make Week 3 picks

Here are the expert picks for the Week 3 matchup between the Colts and Chiefs.

As the Indianapolis Colts (0-1-1) prepare to host the Kansas City Chiefs (2-0) for the home opener at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 3, the odds are completely stacked against them.

Of course, that’s the logical line of thinking. The Colts have looked nowhere close to what we thought they would while the Chiefs continue to be among the league’s elite squads.

Here’s how the experts around the league view this matchup:

Expert Pick Score (if applicable)
Nate Davis (USA TODAY) Chiefs 27-23
Jarrett Bell (USA TODAY) Chiefs 27-21
Vic Tafur (The Athletic) Chiefs N/A
Mike Clay (ESPN) Chiefs N/A
Dan Graziano (ESPN) Chiefs N/A
Gregg Rosenthal (NFL Network) Chiefs 40-27
Bill Bender (Sporting News) Chiefs 30-22
Pete Prisco (CBS Sports) Chiefs 30-17
Charles Goldman (Chiefs Wire) Chiefs 41-20
Jess Root (Sportsbook Wire) Chiefs N/A
Cam DaSilva (Sportsbook Wire) Chiefs N/A
Bleacher Report Chiefs 31-20

It should be no surprise that the Chiefs are picked to win by nearly every analyst and expert. Over at Tallysight, 98% of the analysts are siding with the Chiefs to come away with a win at Lucas Oil Stadium this weekend.

Stranger things have happened, sure. It is in the range of outcomes for the Colts to leave Week 3 with a miracle upset win. However, it’s not the logical choice, especially considering the product they’ve put on the field during the first two weeks of the season.

They’ll have a chance if they get healthier on the final injury report, and we’ll see if the Colts can prove everyone wrong.

College Wire staff predict the winner from each SEC game in Week 4

Our network staff members make their predictions for every SEC game in Week 4.

In last week’s nonconference action, the SEC finished 9-1 with the lone loss coming from the Auburn Tigers as they fell to Penn State 41-12. Week 3 featured a pair of conference classes with the Georgia Bulldogs rolling South Carolina 48-7 and the LSU Tigers‘ late surge gave them the victory over Mississippi State 31-16.

The only game featuring two teams in the top 25 came in College Station, the Texas A&M Aggies defeated the Miami Hurricanes 17-9. This week there will be two games with top 25 teams, and both will be SEC battles. The No. 10 Arkansas Razorbacks meet No. 20 Texas A&M at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, for the Southwest Classic. The second game features No. 22 Florida Gators heading to Knoxville to take on the No. 12 Tennessee Vols.

Auburn will face off with Missouri at Jordan-Hare and the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide host Vanderbilt to round out the four conference games.

As we do each week, the SEC staff on the College Wire network make their predictions for each conference game on the schedule.
