Eagles’ linebacker Nakobe Dean expected to land on injured reserve with a foot injury

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean suffered a Lisfranc sprain and the 2nd-year defender will likely go on injured reserve according to Mike Garafalo

The Eagles are set to be without second-year linebacker Nakobe Dean for an extended period after the former Georgia All-American suffered a Lisfranc sprain.

It’s the second time Dean will miss an extended period of action after he suffered a foot injury against New England that placed him on injured reserve for four weeks.

Dean, 22, started on Sunday afternoon and has been a part of a three-man rotation with Nicholas Morrow and Zach Cunningham.

After not missing a game with an injury in college, Dean has struggled to stay on the field this season, his first as an NFL starter, and he’s been a critical figure in the success of Sean Desai’s defense.

According to PFF, Dean has 26 tackles, 11 stops, and one sack, with an 80.2 grade against the run.

If you were a fan of the NBA in the 1990s and early aughts, the name Bob Whitsitt probably rings a bell. Dubbed ‘Trader Bob’, Whitsitt was instrumental in transforming the Supersonics and Trail Blazers into powerhouses in the Western Conference. He was the one who drafted Shawn Kemp and then Gary Payton the following year to set Seattle up to contend for years.

Whitsitt is coming out with his own book, Game Changer: An Insider’s Story of the Sonics’ Resurgence, the Trail Blazers’ Turnaround, and the Deal that Saved the Seahawks, which is set to be released on October 10, 2023, and goes into detail about his experiences as a basketball executive. Whitsitt talked with HoopsHype about his nickname ‘Trader Bob’, his thoughts on the Damian Lillard situation, Seattle as a potential expansion team, and more.

Multiple former Alabama stars rank among top 25 players in the NFL under the age of 25

Alabama football continues to produce the best young talent in the NFL as voted by coaches and executives

The National Football League is more talented than it has ever been with players quickly establishing themselves as elite-level players before even turning 25. Part of that is because college development has never been better with programs like the Alabama Crimson Tide pumping out three to four first-round prospects every single year at the age of 21.

According to the Athletic, seven front-office executives and five NFL coaches came together to vote on the Top 25 players in the NFL under the age of 25, and former Crimson Tide players dominated the list (Subscription required). Broncos‘ Patrick Surtain II was voted No. 4, Jets‘ Quinnen Williams No. 7, Eagles‘ Jalen Hurts No. 8, Dolphins‘ Jaylen Waddle No. 11, Raiders‘ Josh Jacobs No. 17, Eagles’ DeVonta Smith No. 18 and Cowboys‘ Trevon Diggs No. 24.

If you look at essentially any roster in the NFL, you are more than likely going to find at least one former Alabama player who is a core piece of that franchise. The things Nick Saban has been able to do for his collegiate players are something we will never see again in our lifetime. In fact, this list will probably grow next year as Bryce Young, Will Anderson Jr. and Jahmyr Gibbs are without a doubt three of the most exciting young players in this past draft.

People used to think that Nick Saban and the Alabama program worked you so hard in college that the juice was gone by the time they got to the NFL, now they are without a doubt the best program at producing NFL talent. For example, the list doesn’t even include Jerry Jeudy who has been the lone bright spot on an anemic Denver offense or Landon Dickerson who was a Pro Bowler for Philadelphia in 2022.

After a six-year hiatus, adidas Eurocamp was back in Treviso, Italy, as the only sanctioned NBA pre-draft camp outside of the United States. As HoopsHype has already spoken to Jabari Smith and Bennedict Mathurin at Eurocamp, basketball executive Gianluca Pascucci, who serves as the scouting director for the event, was nice enough to talk about the event, give insight to draft preparation, and more.

NFL Execs believe Jerry Jeudy could be traded, Sean Payton denies it

Rumors continue to swirl regarding Jerry Jeudy potentially being traded

After just three years in the NFL, the Denver Broncos are reportedly hearing trade offers for former first-round pick [autotag]Jerry Jeudy[/autotag]. The former Crimson Tide superstar and Biletnikoff winner was the No. 15 pick in the 2020 NFL draft, however, he hasn’t broken out quite yet in the league.

A large part of that has been the instability of the quarterback position for the Broncos, but he’s also had a few injuries to start his career. A fresh start for Jeudy wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world as both the New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns are very interested.

NFL executives around the league don’t think a trade for Jeudy will happen until closer to the time of the NFL draft, if at all. However, Broncos head coach Sean Payton recently made a public statement regarding the rumors and denied them. “I see and read just like everyone else… but we’re not trading those two players,” said Payton.

Chiefs could ally with Bills on coaching, front office interview rules change proposal

The Kansas City Chiefs would likely be among the teams to support the Buffalo Bills’ latest rules change proposal.

The NFL’s Competition Committee will soon meet virtually in order to review the 2020 NFL season and submit new rules change proposals. Some information about the several proposed rules changes has begun to trickle in. One proposal that the Buffalo Bills have submitted is likely to receive support from the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to The MMQB’s Albert Breer, the Bills submitted a proposal barring interviews for coaching and front-office positions until after conference championship games. The proposal would also ban any hiring announcements until after the Super Bowl.

Breer also says that the owners could vote on this proposal this offseason.

The Bills, of course, lost to the Chiefs in AFC Championship Game. Their offensive coordinator, Brian Daboll, interviewed with both the Los Angeles Chargers and the New York Jets ahead of the game. Their defensive coordinator, Leslie Frazier, interviewed with the Houston Texans ahead of the game. Neither Daboll or Frazier ended up landing a head-coaching job, but the interviews happened ahead of the most important game of the season— a game that they lost. It’s easy to connect the dots on the perceived issue here.

So why would Kansas City potentially agree with this proposal if the current rule perhaps benefitted them last year? Well, they’ve now spent the past three seasons in contention for a Super Bowl title and in each of those three years, offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has interviewed for head-coaching jobs with other teams. He’s yet to be hired for a head-coaching job and one perceived issue has been that he’s still coaching when teams are ready to make a hire.

If this rule change were to pass, it could do one of two things. It could help Bieniemy land an opportunity that everyone in Kansas City knows that he deserves. It could also perhaps dispel the myth that Bieniemy hasn’t been hired because he’s consistently been one of the last coordinators left coaching.

Whatever the case, this will be a polarizing issue and teams will likely have differing opinions on how to address it. In order to change any rule, the committee needs 24-of-32 teams to vote yes on the proposal. We’ll see if it comes to vote later this season, but it’s certainly something to monitor with Bieniemy in mind.
