That was before they added WR Evan Stewart, the No. 2 rated transfer in the 2024 class, on Thursday night.

Stewart comes to Oregon as a former 5-star recruit from the class of 2022, where he was the No. 1 WR and No. 6 overall player in the nation. He racked up 91 catches for 1,163 yards and 6 touchdowns in his two years with the Texas A&M Aggies before entering the portal earlier this offseason, and now he comes to Eugene with two years of eligibility remaining and projects to be one of the starting receivers for the Ducks.

Stewart is an interesting player, and someone who Oregon fans should definitely learn more about. Here are the top things for the Ducks to know about their newest WR addition:

Breaking: Former Texas A&M sophomore WR Evan Stewart chooses Oregon in transfer portal

According to On3 Sports national recruiting expert Hayes Fawcett, former Texas A&M sophomore wide receiver Evan Stewart has committed to continue his career with the Oregon Ducks.

The best collegiate prospect remaining in the NCAA Transfer Portal has found his new home.

According to On3 Sports national recruiting expert Hayes Fawcett, former Texas A&M sophomore wide receiver Evan Stewart has committed to continue his career with the Oregon Ducks. Stewart reportedly visited Eugene this past weekend.

Following the retirement of Nick Saban from Alabama on Wednesday, rumors quickly began circulating that Oregon head coach Dan Lanning was the favorite to replace the legendary coach. However, he quickly nipped that in the bud and reaffirmed his intentions to remain with the Ducks.

Stewart officially entered the portal on Dec. 19. He transfers to Eugene with two years of eligibility remaining. Oregon was one of three schools that Stewart was reportedly interested in along with Florida State and Ole Miss.

The No. 1 overall prospect to enter the transfer portal was another former Aggies sophomore, defensive tackle Walter Nolen, who transferred to the Rebels on Christmas Eve.

According to On3, Stewart is ranked No. 27 in college sports with a $1 million NIL valuation. Those figures reached as high as No. 14 and $1.4 million but recently changed following his commitment.

Towards the end of his tenure in Bryan-College Station, Stewart revealed the “truth about NIL” and alluded to the mistreatment of his health at Texas A&M.

Duck fans react to No. 1 WR Evan Stewart’s commitment to Oregon

The Oregon Ducks got a commitment from former 5-star WR Evan Stewart on Thursday night, keeping the good times rolling in Eugene.

When it rains victories, it often pours as well.

So while the week started on a high note for fans of the Oregon Ducks when their bitter rival Washington Huskies lost in the national championship game, it ended on a high note as well. On Thursday, not only did head coach Dan Lanning once again pledge his allegiance to the program by shutting down rumors about him leaving for the Alabama Crimson Tide, but the Ducks also picked up a commitment from Evan Stewart, the No. 1 wide receiver in the transfer portal.

The former Texas A&M WR was a 5-star prospect coming out of high school, rated as the No. 1 pass-catcher in the class of 2022, and the No. 6 overall player. He racked up 91 catches for 1,163 yards and 6 touchdowns. He has two years of eligibility remaining if he wants to use them, but there is a belief that he will likely try to head to the NFL after one more season.

With the addition of Stewart, it’s clear that the Ducks have one of the best receiver rooms in the nation going into the 2024 season. After a day of celebration from the Lanning news, Oregon fans kept it going on Thursday night with the announcement of Stewart’s commitment:

Oregon Ducks get commitment from Texas A&M WR Evan Stewart

The No. 2 transfer player in 2024, and the former No. 1 WR in the 2021 class is coming to Eugene.

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks continue to work their magic in the transfer portal, this time getting a commitment from the No. 1 available player, and the No. 2 overall player in the 2024 cycle, former Texas A&M wide receiver Evan Stewart.

Stewart has been rated by 247Sports as a 5-star transfer, and is the second-highest-rated player to enter the portal, only behind new Ole Miss defensive lineman Walter Nolen.

Stewart, a former 5-star recruit in the class of 2021, and the No. 6 overall player in that class, played two seasons at Texas A&M, where he racked up 91 catches for 1,163 yards and 6 touchdowns. He has two years of eligibility remaining if he wants to use them, but there is a belief that he will likely try to head to the NFL after one more season.

While the Ducks are incredibly strong at the WR position with the announced returns of Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden, the addition of Stewart goes a long way in replacing Troy Franklin, who will go to the NFL this year as arguably the greatest receiver in Oregon history.

Though the Ducks also lost quarterback Bo Nix to the NFL this offseason as well, they replaced him with former Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel, who is an early favorite to win the Heisman Trophy in 2024.

Aggies sophomore WR Evan Stewart alludes to mistreatment of health at Texas A&M

“Wherever I go, I just hope the training staff can tell me the actual diagnosis of my injuries for my physical and mental health,” Stewart stated on X.

Users who refuse to pay for the social media platform formally known as Twitter are limited to 280 characters per post but a lot can still be said.

Texas A&M sophomore wide receiver Evan Stewart shared a post on Tuesday afternoon that has many people in Aggieland scratching their heads.

“Wherever I go, I just hope the training staff can tell me the actual diagnosis of my injuries for my physical and mental health,” Stewart stated on X, adding a praying hands emoji to the end of the post.

Stewart entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Dec. 19. Following the firing of Jimbo Fisher and subsequent dismissal of his remaining staff, Stewart’s post seems to be more of an indictment against the previous regime than new head coach Mike Elko.

The sophomore wideout has been outspoken over the last month following the conclusion of the regular season. He revealed the truth about NIL in Bryan-College Station in December.

Stewart is 6-foot, 175 pounds and was a 5-star prospect coming out of Liberty High School in Frisco, Texas. The Memphis, Tenn. native had a phenomenal freshman season in 2022, earning All-Freshman Team honors from the SEC, ESPN, The Athletic and the Football Writers Association of America.

Report: Ducks among teams pursuing former Texas A&M WR Evan Stewart

The Oregon Ducks are reportedly among the many teams pursuing former Texas A&M WR Evan Steward, the No. 1 available player in the portal.

The Oregon Ducks reportedly have an eye for the No. 1 available player in the 2024 transfer portal. Is anyone surprised?

Earlier this month, former Texas A&M wide receiver Evan Stewart announced that he would be leaving the Aggies and entering the portal, looking for a new team. Since then, teams from around the nation have been working to jockey for position and recuit the former 5-star athlete who has had a solid career down in College Station.

At the moment, Stewart is rated as the No. 1 available player in the transfer portal. He is the second overall rated player, behind former teammate Walter Nolen, who announced his transfer to Ole Miss last week. Standing at 6-foot-0, 175 pounds, Stewart was rated as the No. 6 overall player in the 2021 class, and the No. 1 WR in the nation.

The Ducks have been looking at wide receivers in the portal this offseason as they look to stock their WR room with more talent after the departure of Troy Franklin. According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Oregon has been working to recruit Smith to Eugene.

“It’s too early to name a favorite, but development remains a key component of where he lands,” Nakos writes.

Of course, it’s hard to get better development than in Eugene under wide receivers coach Junior Adams, who has been partly responsible for the production of guys like Cooper Kupp, Puka Nakua, and of course, Franklin.

We will see if the Ducks are able to get Stewart to Eugene on a visit in the coming weeks once the dead period comes to a close on January 11th.
