Three-star QB Ethan Grunkemeyer commits to Penn State

Penn State picks up new commitment for the Class of 2024, addressing a key position.

Penn State’s Class of 2024 added another commitment to the board on Saturday afternoon. Three-star quarterback [autotag]Ethan Grunkemeyer[/autotag] announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions with a post on his social media account, thus bringing an end to his recruiting process.

Penn State first extended a scholarship offer to Grunkemeyer on April 20 of this year and hosted the recruit for an unofficial visit earlier this month. Other Big Ten schools with offers on the table for the Ohio native included Minnesota, Indiana, and Northwestern. Other schools with offers included Cincinnati, Boston College, Virginia, and a number of MAC and other non-power programs, including Princeton of the Ivy League.

247Sports rates Grunkeyemer as a three-star recruit, as does On3. Grunkemeyer is one of the top 20 players from the state of Ohio, a state that has yielded some good Penn State players over the years, including this year’s starting quarterback Drew Allar.

Penn State’s quarterback scholarship outlook for the next couple of seasons looks to be in pretty decent shape with Allar and Beau Pribula just sophomores going into the 2023 season and Jaxon Smolik a true freshman in 2023. Grunkemeyer is the first quarterback in the Class of 2024 for the Nittany Lions, which provides more depth on the younger side of the roster at the position.

Grunkemeyer, who measures 6′-2″ and 190 lb, plays for Olentangy High School in Lewis Center, OH. Last season, Grunkemeyer passed for 2,649 yards and 25 touchdowns and rushed for 201 yards and four touchdowns. He is considered a pretty all-around polished passer who anticipates where his receivers will be and is viewed as a potential future power five starter according to his 247Sports scouting report.

Penn State’s Class of 2024 ranked in the top 10 of the most recent update to the 247Sports composite rankings, ranking sixth in the nation. Penn State’s recruiting class for 2024 is now up to 14 commitments with the most recent addition of Grunkemeyer.

Resetting Michigan State football’s 2024 QB recruiting board

Michigan State has done a full reset to its 2024 QB recruiting board, check out who the Spartans are going to target:

Michigan State is looking to build momentum on the recruiting trail for 2024. Currently, the Spartans only hold two commitments, both in the defensive backfield. As summer approaches, the MSU coaching staff will continue to build the class.

The QB position has been a roller coaster so far in the 2024 cycle for MSU. In the last edition of resetting MSU’s 2024 QB board, we had five quarterbacks on the list; only one holdover is on this list.

That problem stemmed from the staff not pursuing Davi Belfort’s commitment, allowing him to choose Virginia Tech, losing highly touted four-star Jake Merklinger to Tennessee and Daniel Kaelin choosing Missouri before visiting East Lansing.

Now, OC Jay Johnson is left resetting his QB board, and we have some clarity on what it looks like:

Michigan State football getting visit from 2024 QB Ethan Grunkemeyer

A QB in the 2024 recruiting class will be visiting MSU this weekend:

Michigan State has yet to land a quarterback in its 2024 recruiting class, but that hasn’t stopped the recruiting board from evolving. MSU offensive coordinator Jay Johnson has hit a home run in back to back years landing Katin Houser and Sam Leavitt in 2022 and 2023.

With the anticipation of top target Jake Merklinger committing to Tennessee later this week, the Spartans are set to shift their focus to other QB prospects.

One of those QB prospects is Ethan Grunkemeyer, a 3-star prospect from Lewis Center, Ohio. He plans to visit Michigan State this weekend:
