Penn State’s Class of 2024 added another commitment to the board on Saturday afternoon. Three-star quarterback [autotag]Ethan Grunkemeyer[/autotag] announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions with a post on his social media account, thus bringing an end to his recruiting process.
Penn State first extended a scholarship offer to Grunkemeyer on April 20 of this year and hosted the recruit for an unofficial visit earlier this month. Other Big Ten schools with offers on the table for the Ohio native included Minnesota, Indiana, and Northwestern. Other schools with offers included Cincinnati, Boston College, Virginia, and a number of MAC and other non-power programs, including Princeton of the Ivy League.
247Sports rates Grunkeyemer as a three-star recruit, as does On3. Grunkemeyer is one of the top 20 players from the state of Ohio, a state that has yielded some good Penn State players over the years, including this year’s starting quarterback Drew Allar.
Penn State’s quarterback scholarship outlook for the next couple of seasons looks to be in pretty decent shape with Allar and Beau Pribula just sophomores going into the 2023 season and Jaxon Smolik a true freshman in 2023. Grunkemeyer is the first quarterback in the Class of 2024 for the Nittany Lions, which provides more depth on the younger side of the roster at the position.

Last season, Grunkemeyer passed for 2,649 yards and 25 touchdowns and rushed for 201 yards and four touchdowns. He is considered a pretty all-around polished passer who anticipates where his receivers will be and is viewed as a potential future power five starter according to his 247Sports scouting report.
