7 notable quotes from Dan Lanning with matchup vs. No. 10 UCLA just days away

“These are games that don’t take a lot of pep talks. Guys are excited, we all recognize the moment here.”

The Oregon Ducks have had a couple of weeks to prepare for this top-10 showdown with the UCLA Bruins thanks to a well-timed bye week, but now we are just a few days away from the matchup taking place.

It will be quite the spectacle, with storylines running rampant. ESPN’s College GameDay will be in town, and former Oregon coach Chip Kelly will be once again making a return trip to Eugene. On top of that, you have the power balance in the Pac-12 conference hanging in the balance, with the winner of this game taking an undisputed spot at the top of the hierarchy, as well as moving up in the national rankings as well.

So how are the Ducks preparing for this all to take place? On Wednesday afternoon, media members got one last chance to talk to head coach Dan Lanning about it all. Here are some of the most notable quotes from that press conference:

USC fans are naturally inclined to root against UCLA, but it’s an urgent task this week vs Oregon

It’s a @Ducks_Wire – Trojans Wire #Pac12 alliance! We explain why it’s in #USC’s interest to have Oregon beat UCLA. It’s more than just hating the Bruins.

Our friends at Ducks Wire will be covering the UCLA-Oregon game all week. ESPN College GameDay will be in Eugene. It’s a really big game for Oregon and UCLA, but also a big game for USC, which will take the week off and scout the Ducks and Bruins on film.

You will want to follow Ducks Wire’s coverage of UCLA-Oregon game week, and then the actual game on Saturday afternoon in Autzen Stadium. Since USC isn’t playing, we are in a position to share with you a lot of Ducks Wire’s insights and reportage.

We want to start UCLA-Oregon week by discussing one obvious point of interest for USC fans: Which team should the Trojans root for, relative to Pac-12 Championship Game scenarios and odds?

Let’s dive in:

Oregon prepares for UCLA showdown and ESPN ‘College GameDay’ while Trojans take the week off

It’s a huge week at @Ducks_Wire, which is preparing for the massive UCLA-Oregon #Pac12 game. Follow Ducks Wire all week. We’ll cover this game as well.

The USC Trojans are on a bye week after a gut-wrenching loss to Utah in a game filled with plenty of controversial calls.

Lincoln Riley and his team will sit back and watch this weekend, and the biggest game of the entire college football slate is UCLA facing Oregon.

There is plenty to like about UCLA-Oregon, and with “College GameDay” coming to Eugene, buckle up (h/t Don Smalley of Ducks Wire).

“Coincidentally, the Ducks’ next opponent, a 6-0 UCLA team, also had a bye and is the beneficiary of the miseries of the Trojans and Nittany Lions. The Bruins are now ranked No. 10,” Smalley wrote.

“It’s perfect timing for both the Ducks and the Bruins with ESPN “College GameDay” selecting their upcoming game at Autzen Stadium on Oct. 22. The matchup turns out to be a game of the Pac-12’s two best teams and might be just Game 1 between these two powerhouses.”

“Win or lose, both teams control their own destinies to reach the Pac-12 title game in Vegas with Utah coming to Eugene later in the season and UCLA still having to play the Trojans.”

Ranking Oregon’s best ‘guest picker’ candidates for ESPN’s College GameDay in Eugene

Sabrina Ionescu? Payton Pritchard? Neil Everett? Who do you think should be the guest picker for ESPN’s College GameDay in Eugene?

ESPN’s College GameDay is officially returning to Eugene, and with it will come all of the fanfare and buzz that is fit of the weekly marquee show for the mothership.

Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Reece Davis, Pat McAfee, and Desmond Howard are going to find some place on campus and set up shop this week to preview what will be one of the best football games of the weekend, a showdown between the No. 12 Oregon Ducks and No. 11 UCLA Bruins. Of course, as is tradition, there will be one “guest picker” up on stage with them at the end of the show that goes through the top games of the weekend and makes picks for who will win.

The guest picker is almost always someone affiliated with the home university and a person who can get the crowd rowdy. For example, Peyton Manning was the guest picker for the Tennessee vs. Alabama game on Saturday in Knoxville.

So who will the guest picker be in Eugene on Saturday? We’ve got a few ideas…

LOOK: Tennessee fans try to roast Alabama with College GameDay signs

Do you think these Vols fans’ attempts at roasting Alabama were any good?

ESPN College GameDay broadcasted live from Knoxville, Tennessee for the big-time Week 7 matchup between the Crimson Tide and the Volunteers. An SEC matchup with a history of being a heated rivalry lost its spark in the last 15 years, as Alabama won every meeting.

Now, analysts and fans from across the country believe this might be the year Tennessee takes down the Tide.

College GameDay welcomed in fans, who brought their best signs, most of which were attempts at roasting the Crimson Tide. Some were jabs at Nick Saban, others took shots at former Tennessee linebacker Henry To’oTo’o who transferred to Alabama in 2021, and some were just flat-out digs on the fans.

Peyton Manning is guest picker on ESPN College GameDay, weighs in on USC-Utah showdown

ESPN selected Peyton Manning as its guest picker for the College GameDay show. @VolsWire collected Peyton’s picks on #USC – Utah and other big games.

So this is interesting: ESPN College GameDay aired live from the University of Tennessee’s campus ahead of the Volunteers’ huge game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Former Tennessee Vol Peyton Manning served as a guest picker before the Tennessee-Alabama top-eight showdown.

It was a natural decision to have Peyton Manning join in on the fun before the Saturday afternoon kickoff.

Peyton also picked the USC-Utah battle and a slew of other big games on what is a packed slate in Week 7. There’s Oklahoma State-TCU, Clemson-Florida State, Penn State-Michigan, and a lot of other quality matchups in addition to Bama-Vols and USC-Utah.

Our friends at Vols Wire collected all of Peyton Manning’s picks on ESPN College GameDay. Here they are:

ESPN ‘College GameDay’ crew makes picks for Alabama-Tennessee

See who the ESPN “College GameDay” crew picks to win in this must-win matchup for both teams.

Alabama and Tennessee face off in a highly anticipated matchup of two top-10 teams with College Football Playoff implications. Though the Crimson Tide won the last 15 meetings, some believe the streak will end Saturday.

ESPN’s “College GameDay” crew was in Knoxville, Tennessee, and highlighted the many storylines woven into this game.

When it came time to make their picks, only one host chose Alabama over Tennessee. Everyone else, including the celebrity guest picker, Peyton Manning, chose the Volunteers.

When making their picks, a popular talking point was the health of Bryce Young and the high-powered Tennessee offense.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Crimson Tide football as the Week 7 contest gets underway.

ESPN’s College GameDay picks their winners for week 7

One half of the Manning-cast joined the crew and made his picks

Multiple top 25 matchups this weekend and two top ten tilts made ESPN’s decision fairly difficult but they ended up heading to SEC country for the No. 3 Alabama at No. 6 Tennessee contest. The crew of Chris Fowler, Lee Corso (welcome back after a two-week hiatus), Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit were joined by Peyton Manning, who needs no introduction. Find out below from the group of Howard, McAfee, Corso, Herbstreit and Manning on who they believe will win this weekend.
