Wisconsin football promotes three key staffers to assistant coach roles

Wisconsin football elevated staffers Jack Cooper, Casey Rabach and Eric Raisbeck to assistant coaching roles on Thursday, per a release from the program.

Cooper will become Wisconsin’s assistant secondary coach this fall after working as a senior defensive analyst in 2023. He joined UW’s program in the spring of 2023 after a successful three-year stint as the defensive coordinator at the University of Rhode Island.

Raisbeck, UW’s former special teams analyst, will assume assistant special teams coach duties ahead of the 2024 slate. He joined Wisconsin in January 2024 following four seasons as a special teams analyst at Penn State.

Rabach, finally, earns assistant offensive line responsibilities ahead of the season after serving as the program’s director of scouting. He played offensive line for the Badgers from 1996-2000 before an NFL career with Baltimore and Washington.

Rabach first worked as a personnel assistant with the Badgers before rising to its director of scouting. He collaborated closely with both Pat Lambert and Max Stienecker on the Badgers’ recruiting efforts.

The news arrives just one day after several staff adjustments within Wisconsin’s front office.

Over the past few days, UW hired Alabama recruiting specialist Brandon Rose as an assistant director of player personnel, plus elevated former player personnel director Stienecker to general manager, former outside linebacker Izayah Green-May to assistant director of player personnel and former personnel assistant Jared Thompson to college scouting coordinator.

The program is now set to begin training camp later this week in preparation for the fast-approaching 2024 football season.

Report: Wisconsin elevating top analyst to assistant coordinator role

The Wisconsin Badgers are promoting top special teams analyst Eric Raisbeck to assistant special teams coordinator, according to a report from FootballScoop’s Doug Samuels.

Wisconsin hired Raisbeck back in March for an analyst position. He had previously signed on as UC-Davis’ new special teams coordinator before accepting the position on Luke Fickell’s coaching staff.

The fast-rising assistant coach’s path to Wisconsin includes stops at UW-Platteville (2017-2019), Utah State (2019-2020) and Penn State (2020-2023) — mostly in a special teams analyst capacity. He is now reportedly being promoted to work directly with Wisconsin special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach Matt Mitchell.

Special teams were a strength for the Badgers in year one under Fickell. Transfer kicker Nathanial Vakos was terrific, while punter Atticus Bertrams had a lukewarm debut season. Overall, the units did little to hurt the team — an improvement from some of their previous performances.

Vakos and Bertrams are back as Wisconsin’s respective kicker and punter in 2024. Raisbeck will work on a staff that will look to elevate the rest of the Badgers’ special teams units, trying to reach the top-end standard set by Iowa ace special teams coach LeVar Woods.
