Zaleski dos Santos on the fight’s key moment

Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos def. Zach Scroggin, UFC Fight Night 247 (via UFC)

“I thought I was going to face (Nicolas) Dalby, which was going to be a rematch and some opportunity for revenge. I really thought I won that fight about 10 years ago when I first came into the UFC. Unfortunately, the fight didn’t happen, but we just had to make adjustments. We put in the work with everything that we needed to.”

Zaleski dos Santos on travel woes

“I think the hardest part was actually making it to Vegas. It took us forever to (get there). We had all these delays on the flight, and then we ended up taking like two days to get here. We were supposed to be here early in the week and then we ended up being here Tuesday night, almost Wednesday morning. But I think all the work that you put in before and all the work that you put in the camp gives you all the tools that you need to continue on and perform when you come to the fight.”

“I think this opportunity (to fight Dalby) kind of passed. For right now, this opportunity is kind of gone. I know that eventually, we could have that fight. But right now, I’m thinking of the next step.”

UFC Fight Night 247 video: Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos unleashes capoeira celebration after fast TKO

Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos scored a quick TKO, and then showcased a flippy capoiera routine in celebration at UFC Fight Night 247.

[autotag]Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos[/autotag] didn’t need much time to finish his UFC Fight Night 247 fight, and his celebration was perhaps flashier than the fight itself.

In the penultimate preliminary bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, dos Santos (25-8-1 MMA, 11-4-1 UFC) made quick work of the previously undefeated Zach Scroggin, who stepped in for his UFC debut as a short-notice replacement for an injured Nicolas Dalby. Dos Santos recorded a TKO finish by punches at 1:15 of Round 1.

The strike that led to the finishing flurry didn’t appear to be all that devastating at first, but it caused Scroggin (7-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) to fold over and cover up. Dos Santos quickly capitalized, unleashing a barrage of punches until the referee stopped the fight.

The victorious welterweight returned to the center of the cage to celebrate, living up to his nickname “Capoeira” by displaying his skills in the martial art, flipping around the octagon.

Check out video of the finishing sequence and celebration below (via X):

With the win, dos Santos returned to the win column for the first time since a split decision win over Abubakar Nurmagomedov last June. After, he drew with Rinat Fakhretdinov and lost a decision to Randy Brown before recording his first finish since 2019.

Randy Brown def. Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos at UFC 302: Best photos

Randy Brown vs. Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos prediction, pick, start time, odds for UFC 302

Randy Brown and Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos will both enter UFC 302 with momentum. Who will come away victorious?

[autotag]Randy Brown[/autotag] and [autotag]Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos[/autotag] meet Saturday on the main card of UFC 302 from Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Randy Brown vs. Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos UFC 302 preview

Brown (18-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) is trending up again after his four-fight winning streak was snapped by Jack Della Maddalena in February 2023. Since then, Brown has won back-to-back bouts – a unanimous decision over Wellington Turman and a first-round knockout of Muslim Salikhov. … Dos Santos (24-7-1 MMA, 10-3-1 UFC) will enter UFC 302 after fighting Rinat Fakhretdinov to a majority draw last November. Prior to that, he scored back-to-back decision wins over Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Benoit Saint-Denis.

Randy Brown vs. Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos UFC 302 expert pick, prediction

Since the UFC matchmakers, for whatever reason, only booked one lightweight bout outside of the headliner on a pay-per-view, the paid portion of the card will open with a welterweight bout between Brown and Dos Santos.

In the UFC brass’ defense, this fight has all the makings of a welterweight war.

Although I could see Brown ending things early with another beautiful right hand off a double jab, the Jamaican-American has a propensity to play with his food that makes him hard to trust as a favorite.

Dos Santos, on the other hand, is a perpetually underrated Brazilian warhorse who will fight for your money.

An early knockout from Brown wouldn’t shock me, but I’ll take the contrarian pick and side with dos Santos to win by decision.

Randy Brown vs. Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos UFC 302 odds

Brown will enter as the betting favorite, according to FanDuel, coming in at -184, with Dos Santos a +148 underdog.

Randy Brown vs. Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos UFC 302 start time, how to watch

As the main card opener, Brown and Dos Santos are expected to make their walks to the octagon at approximately 10:15 p.m. ET. The fight streams on ESPN+ pay-per-view.

Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos trained a lot of capoeira ahead of UFC 302, promises evolution in MMA game

Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos says he’s evolved plenty ahead of UFC 302, in part thanks to his capoeira unorthodox training.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – [autotag]Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos[/autotag]’s fighting style has always stood out, but it seems like there might be another gear to it.

The flashy Brazilian welterweight returns this Saturday in the opening bout of UFC 302, which goes down at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Zaleski dos Santos (24-7-1 MMA, 10-3-1 UFC) takes on fellow veteran Brown (18-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC). Zaleski dos Santos has scored many impressive finishes in his UFC run, most notably a spinning wheel KO of Sean Strickland – who fights in the co-main event of the card.

Ahead of his return, Zaleski dos Santos promises to show evolution in his game with further help of his capoeira training.

“I always try to improve from camp to camp, and this camp was no different,” Zaleski dos Santos said at the UFC 302 media day. “We got a lot of good quality sparring partners, new athletes, that helped me a lot. I was also able to train a lot of capoeira as well. I think those were the main things that allowed me to evolve in this camp.”

Zaleski dos Santos is unbeaten in his past three fights, a stretch that includes a win over Benoit Sant-Denis. He respects Brown and thinks this is an excellent name to keep building on this current run.

“I remember him, if I’m not mistaken, from fighting in Rio one time, and as soon as I heard his name, I jumped on the fight right away,” Zaleski dos Santos said. “I think it’s a great opportunity. I think it’s a great fight, and I think it’s up there for Fight of the Night.”
