Elijah Crawford announces an official visit to Rutgers football

Elijah Crawford dives into his official visit set up for Rutgers football.

Elijah Crawford will take an official visit to Rutgers in June, one of three official visits the Maryland defensive lineman is likely to take this summer.

Crawford was offered by Rutgers on March 1 and announced on Monday an official visit to Rutgers the weekend of June 14.

He was on campus recently for an unofficial visit where he saw a spring practice. The interior defensive lineman has Rutgers scheduled and will be at West Virginia the weekend of June 7.

Syracuse is also in the mix for Crawford but that official visit has not yet been scheduled. Other programs to offer Crawford include Temple and Virginia Tech.

At 6-foot-4 and 265-pounds, Crawford is coming off a strong season for McDonogh (Owings Mills, Maryland). In nine games played season, Crawford had 39 total tackles, three tackles for a loss and two sacks.

“They just impressed me with everything,” Crawford told Rutgers Wire.

“Practice was fast paced with everyone flying around. The campus was really impressive in just how it is so modern and the strength and conditioning was probably the biggest thing.

“I talked to coach JB (Jay Butler) and he showed me some of the guys’ transformations from their time there and it was just unreal how much they’ve grown.”

Overall, Crawford cites a strong relationship with the Rutgers staff since being offered six weeks ago.

“It’s great, I talk to coach Ferrell (Colin Ferrell) and he’s really genuine and he has a great defensive mind,” Crawford said.

“And (he) really understands d-line play and how I can better my game. On top of that, I talked to coach H (Joe Harasymiah), the defensive coordinator. And we just talked about how I’d fit into their team and just their philosophy and he was just really impressed with my game.”

Crawford said a fourth official visit could take place this summer “depending on how this period goes.”

He hopes to announce his commitment the first week in July.

Maryland defensive lineman Elijah Crawford talks about his recent Rutgers football offer: ‘It’s a great honor’

Elijah Crawford is impressed with Rutgers after his offer last week.

It is early in the process for Maryland defensive lineman Elijah Crawford, but he says that things are going well with Rutgers football.

For Crawford, who was offered by Rutgers last week, the next step is to take a visit to the Big Ten program this spring.

Physically impressive,  the class of 2025 prospect is 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds. He lines up as an interior defensive lineman for McDonogh (Owings Mills, Maryland).

As a junior, Crawford finished his nine games played with 39 total tackles, three tackles for a loss and two sacks.

So far, Crawford has registered offers from Indiana, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and West Virginia in a recruitment that is likely to continue progressing.

The Rutgers offer has Crawford continuing to learn more about the program. But so far, he likes what he has seen so far from the coaching staff.

“I’m really excited about it, they’re one of the best schools in the nation – first academically but also athletic-wise,” Crawford told Rutgers Wire.

“So it’s a great honor to be in the position that I’m in and to have an opportunity to go to such a prestigious place.”

Prior to his midweek offer, Crawford has been getting to know defensive line coach Colin Ferrell.

Ferrell was hired in February after being a defensive line coach at Akron, where he was a standout defensive lineman. After college, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts.

“I’ve been talking to their d-line coach, coach Ferrell, and we’ve just talked about their values and core beliefs and just what sets them apart from a lot of these other schools and that led to me getting on the phone and talking to the head coach, coach Schiano,” Crawford said.

“And we talked about how Rutgers has a different identity from a lot of schools in the way that they help their players grow as athletes but more importantly as men. And how he believes that I have the qualities and values that they want at Rutgers so he offered me a scholarship.”

Following the offer, Crawford has been actively learning about Rutgers. He’s hoping that a spring visit can be made.

“After getting the offer, I’ve started to do some research on the program and it’s been really good just seeing them continuously getting better and better each year,” Crawford said.

“No (visit) date set yet but I’d like to get up there for a spring practice and if all goes well, then an official.”

Rutgers football offers Maryland defensive tackle Elijah Crawford

Elijah Crawford has been offered by Rutgers football.

Maryland defensive lineman Elijah Crawford was offered by Rutgers football on Thursday.

Rutgers now joins fellow Power Five programs Indiana, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and West Virginia in offering Crawford. He is a 6-foot-4, 265-pound interior defensive lineman from the class of 2025 at McDonogh (Owings Mills, Maryland).

In nine games played as a junior last year for McDonogh, Crawford had 39 total tackles, three tackles for a loss and two sacks.

Because of his size and strength, Crawford is unable to be blocked at the high school level by most linemen. But while his power requires double teams, he is impressive in how he can evade blockers and get into the backfield.

Crawford is quick and agile, allowing him to get quickly after the ball once he sheds his blocker.

3-star point guard includes LSU in final six

The Tigers made the cut for Elijah Crawford.

LSU’s men’s basketball team is still in search of the first commitment in the 2024, but it made the cut for yet another prospect in three-star point guard [autotag]Elijah Crawford[/autotag].

The Augusta, Georgia, native trimmed his list down to six schools: LSU, Georgia, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Stanford and UCF. He also announced that he will be transferring to Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, for his senior season, per On3.

Crawford has his first official visit set with Stanford from Oct. 6-8. He also plans to officially visit Georgia, South Carolina and UCF, and he’s taken unofficial visits with the Tigers and Gamecocks.

“What I like about LSU is the beautiful campus! When I went on my visit I fell in love with the campus,” Crawford said. “Coach Mac also lets his guards GO which is also a great thing. I feel like I’d have the opportunity to go in there and help impact.”

Stanford is the favorite for the top-200 prospect according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, followed by South Carolina and then LSU. But coach [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag] will hope to make up some ground as he searches for a 2024 pledge.
