Elden Ring has sold more than 16.6 million copies

FromSoftware’s action RPG Elden Ring is a mainstream hit, with sales to prove it.

Not long ago, merely suggesting that FromSoftware could release the bestselling game of 2022 would be laughable. Well, it’s happening, as Elden Ring has set another sales milestone.

As reported by Gamebiz, Elden Ring has now sold over 16.6 million units worldwide (Thanks, Gematsu). Those numbers include digital and physical copies, but it’s a staggering feat nonetheless. Though not surprising, the game recently surpassed 13 million in sales. Elden Ring outperformed heavy hitters like Call of Duty: Vanguard, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. I’m starting to think this game is popular or something!

That momentum probably won’t slow down anytime soon. Elden Ring is still receiving regular updates, some of which completely retool certain key questlines.

As for Elden Ring‘s future, we don’t know when an expansion might drop. FromSoftware typically releases significant content updates one year after a title’s release, which happened with Bloodborne‘s The Old Hunters addon and The Ringed City DLC for Dark Souls 3. The studio has almost finished another project, though it’s probably something new entirely.

Part of what’s driving Elden Ring‘s ongoing success is the community’s absurd challenges — for example, using a piano to finish the game or creating VR mods.

Elden Ring v1.06 patch notes breakdown – Bloodhound Step and Rivers of Blood nerfed

Elden Ring’s PVP community will be very happy to see the suite of changes that has been made in Elden Ring patch v1.06.

Elden Ring is considered by many to be one of the best games of 2022, and while we don’t know what’s in store for the future of the game, it’s currently still getting important bug fixes, additions, and gameplay balance changes. Elden Ring and the rest of the Souls games aren’t made specifically for PVP multiplayer, but that has always been a core part of the experience.

So while the gameplay balance may have shifted a bit over the course of Elden Ring, or perhaps even fallen apart at times, one thing has remained consistent: Bloodhound Step and how much it infuriated players. You either used it and laughed at people, or you had it used on you and you nearly quit the game. That’s how bad things were.

[mm-video type=video id=01g2m8fkn1jgaky5rb08 playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01g2m8fkn1jgaky5rb08/01g2m8fkn1jgaky5rb08-f22de327c03fbcae479d64868a23d374.jpg]

With this new patch, FromSoftware is finally tackling the Bloodhound Step issue, along with a bunch more. For everything, just read through our breakdown below.

Indiana Jones barely survives the world of Elden Ring in hysterical video

The silver screen’s most extraordinary adventurer steps into Elden Ring, and it’s incredible.

Few would disagree that Indiana Jones is cinema’s greatest adventurer. However, none of his legendary escapades were enough to prepare him for FromSoftware’s latest action RPG epic.

Last week, YouTuber eli_handle_b․wav uploaded a video mashup where Indiana Jones somehow stumbles into the world of Elden Ring (thanks, VG247). It’s an utterly brilliant sight, where sequences from Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, and The Last Crusade are mixed into infamous stages from the game. Indy locks horns with the Tree Sentinel, fights gargoyles, and even runs away from a giant rolling boulder. Who could have seen that last one coming? Total shocker, I know!

Check out the video for yourself below. It’s excellent belly-laugh yielding material, trust me.

Not even Fortnite could prepare Indy for this. It’s almost a shame that we don’t see him take on Godrick, Radahn, or Margit. Not that I want to see Harrison Ford eat dirt or anything.

All kidding aside, it’s mighty impressive how well scenes from the films blend into an entirely different medium. There are numerous other videos on eli_handle_b․wav’s channel like this one, such as Ash Williams from Evil Dead visiting Resident Evil Village. Absolutely watch that one too. It’s incredible.

Just brilliant stuff.

Fan finishes Elden Ring with a piano

FromSoftware probably didn’t plan for these masterful chords.

Elden Ring is notoriously difficult. Whether it’s Radahn, Dragonlord Placidusax, or Malenia, there’s no shortage of tough bosses. However, none of those hurdles prevented one fan from finishing the game with a piano.

Last week, YouTuber Omunchkin13 shared footage on Reddit of this awe-inspiring act (Thanks, Eurogamer). While the piano still plays notes, it’s primarily functioning as a controller. So don’t expect anything other than some light, off-the-cuff jazz notes. Plus, enduring FromSoftware’s latest is hard enough already! So don’t expect Eubie Blake.

Watch the clip for yourself below. As a word of warning, it contains final boss spoilers. So don’t check it out without finishing Elden Ring unless that isn’t an issue for you.

Took a lot longer than expected, but I was finally able to beat Elden Ring using a piano as a controller. from Eldenring

Omunchkin13 also released a video explaining what kind of preparation went into finishing Elden Ring this way. Essentially, he used software called Bome MIDI Translator to remap in-game actions onto a keyboard piano. Incredibly, he beat every major boss too! It took loads of practice, I imagine.

Since Elden Ring came out, fans have been coming up with absolutely absurd conditions and methods to play the game. Some highlights include banana controllers, bow-only builds, and speedrunning through in minutes. In time, there will surely be more ridiculous feats too.

Elden Ring publisher reportedly targeted by a ransomware attack

Bandai Namco might be dealing with a significant security breach.

Bandai Namco, the publisher of multiple award-winning titles like Elden Ring, is potentially suffering from a massive ransomware attack.

As first spotted by Kotaku, a malware monitoring group known as vx-underground made a post regarding the incident. Apparently, the hacker group ALPHV, better known as BlackCat, is behind it.

“ALPHV ransomware group (alternatively referred to as BlackCat ransomware group) claims to have ransomed Bandai Namco,” vx-underground said on Twitter. The post also included a screenshot allegedly of BlackCat’s ransomware blog, indicating that Bandai Namco was targeted on July 11, 2022.

Thus far, Bandai Namco hasn’t publicly acknowledged the apparent hack. GLHF has reached out to the publisher for comment but has not heard anything back. We’ll update the story should the company respond.

Ransomware is a specific type of malware that Black Hat hackers utilize to block data on a computer or network through encryption to get the victim a ransom fee. It’s an increasingly popular means of extortion in cyber security attacks.

According to Forbes, at least 60 organizations worldwide have been attacked by BlackCat. Most notably, the group is believed to have a hand in the Colonial Pipeline incident last year among others.

There have been numerous high-profile hacks within the games industry in recent years. Capcom in 2020 arguably being the biggest, which resulted in upcoming titles such as Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Resident Evil 4 remake leaking years in advance.

5 biggest changes in Elden Ring patch notes 1.05

Elden Ring has finally received a new patch. For all the important points, read through our full breakdown for patch 1.05.

Elden Ring has finally received a new patch. The last patch we saw was released in late April, and was a simple hotfix for Malenia‘s ever-increasing pool of health. This new patch is much larger, but introduces far less than previous patches.

While previous patches reintroduced seemingly cut content, such as Jar Bairn and a final couple of Patches encounters, this patch mostly just fixes bugs and adds a couple of minor features. For everything you need to know about Elden Ring patch 1.05, read below for the full patch notes breakdown.

Elden Ring creator reveals his favorite bosses

In an interview with Xbox Wire’s Japanese version, Miyazaki said that he was surprised and happy with how well Elden Ring had performed.

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the man all men want to be like (probably), has talked about his reaction to Elden Ring’s success, plans going forward, and his favorite bosses in his latest masterpiece. In an interview with Xbox Wire’s Japanese version, Miyazaki said that he was surprised and happy with how well Elden Ring had performed.

Perhaps most notably, Miyazaki said that From Software won’t change their approach to game development or design and will continue to make games that “they believe are interesting” according to a translation provided by industry Twitter superstar Nibel. Given the entire rest of the world seems to find them interesting too, probably a good plan. I’d be confident that no amount of success is going to change how From do what they do best, given those design principles have survived three massive publishers (Activision, Sony, and Bandai Namco), multiple franchises, and all their success so far.

As for his favorite bosses, Miyazaki picks out Radahn as his boy, saying he likes the surrounding events of the Festival as well as the character itself. When that fight goes ‘right’ it’s certainly an incredible spectacle, and one that leaves you quite sure of the large man’s power. Miyazaki also picks out Godrick and Rykard – the latter of which would probably be a personal pick too. It was great to see From do a gimmick boss with its own counter-weapon that wasn’t horrible to play.

If you’re translation-inclined, worth reading through the full interview for some tidbits on the spider hands and war ash system. Auto-translators give a fairly good impression of what the man’s saying. Sadly it doesn’t look like the world knew of Musk’s terrible Elden Ring build before the interview.

Elon Musk has the worst Elden Ring build you’ve ever seen

Posting off-screen photos on Twitter – not knowing how to use screenshot functions on modern consoles or PCs is something we won’t be going into – Musk exposed his heavy load intelligence build to the world. It’s really bad.

Elon Musk has posted his Elden Ring build and it is uniformly terrible. He’s apparently beaten the game with it, or at least implies as much, but how is a very good question. Posting off-screen photos on Twitter – not knowing how to use screenshot functions on modern consoles or PCs is something we won’t be going into – Musk exposed his heavy load intelligence build to the world. It’s really bad.

My brother in Morgott, you have two shields equipped. Just pick one. Your staff is in your main hand – in what situation do you want magic and shield access at the same time. Do you really need four different spirits, but no healing items on your quick-access hotbar? What are these talismans, you’re taking more damage from getting hit while playing with the heaviest armour you can find and another talisman for more health?

Weapon-wise, there doesn’t seem to be much point carrying a second sword as well as a Moonveil Katana, and based on the number of upgrades to Mr. Musk’s staff and his amount of memory slots, I don’t think he’s actually finished the game. That’s despite him offering a review of it “in its entirety” – you need to read some Elden Ring weapon guides, buddy. You might even be able to buy the stones you need, not that buying things has been going great for Musk lately.

Spell selection seems alright, and the helmet is a nice choice. 68 intelligence is probably more than anyone actually needs, but it’s as important you seem smart in Elden Ring as anywhere else so fair enough. Look, just unequip the bits you don’t need, switch out the heavy armor for some nice robes, and we’ll have something we can work with. Level vigor next and maybe move these talismans around, you’ll be missing some additional Int there if you want it. Dex can go up if you need the damage but you, well, don’t.

But ain’t all that the beauty of Elden Ring? You don’t actually need to optimize all this, you can play the way you enjoy and create whatever (hellish) mismatch of strengths you prefer, with the power of spirits and summons to back you up when it all gets a bit tough. Just, if you’re the richest dude in the world, I’m going to roast you for it.

Elden Ring modders are adding seamless four-player co-op

Open beta for the mod begins this week.

If there’s one thing many fans want in Elden Ring, it’s co-op that isn’t such a hassle. FromSoftware almost certainly won’t do away with the summoning system, so it’s good that fans are creating a workaround.

On Friday, YouTuber LukeYui revealed the seamless four-player co-op mod for Elden Ring. It allows players to meet up right at the first site of grace, then galivant around the Lands Between without constantly disconnecting from each other’s games.

The mod functions more-or-less like plenty of other online co-op titles do. One player hosts a session, and three others can join. All players share progress, but only while playing through the content together. So if your buddies kill a boss while you’re not there, that progression won’t carry over. There’s no sharing loot, thankfully.

Check out the mod in action below. It’s wild how everyone can even mount up on horseback!

The Elden Ring Seamless co-op mod enters open beta on May 27, 2022, and will be available on NexusMods. It uses a separate launcher, so you won’t get banned for trying it out.

Elden Ring‘s modding scene is only just getting started. The community is already building an impressive VR mod, and Thomas the Tank Engine is already there for anyone looking for primo night-terror material.
