Jim Irsay will present Edgerrin James at Hall of Fame induction

Jim Irsay will present Edgerrin James at his Hall of Fame induction.

When August rolls around, the Indianapolis Colts will be preparing for the 2020 regular season. The team’s owner in Jim Irsay will have a big task at that time as the presenter for Edgerrin James’ Hall of Fame induction at Canton.

James, who was voted into the Hall of Fame last week, said it was an easy choice to choose Irsay as his presenter.

“Guy who signed my first paycheck,” James told 1070 The Fan this week.

Irsay was also the presenter for Colts legendary wide receiver Marvin Harrison at his induction in 2016.

It took a while for James to get into the Hall of Fame. But in his sixth year on the ballot and fourth time being a finalist, James will get his gold jacket and bust in Canton.

James spent seven seasons with the Colts after being the No. 4 overall pick in the 1999 NFL draft. He was an integral part of the Colts offense—he racked up five seasons with at least 1,250 rushing yards during his time in Indy.

The induction ceremony will take place during the week of August 6–9 in Canton, Ohio.

Will the Seattle Seahawks have a Hall of Famer in 2021?

Now that Steve Hutchinson and Edgerrin James are both in, who will be the next Seattle Seahawks player or coach to make the Hall of Fame?

On Saturday, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced the five modern-era enshrinees in the Class of 2020, and two former Seattle Seahawks — guard Steve Hutchinson and running back Edgerrin James — were among those selected.

Hutchinson becomes the fifth Seahawks draft pick to join the Hall, and he and James are the 11th and 12th players who suited up for the Seahawks to get inducted.

James and Hutchinson were the only two former Seahawks to appear on the 15-man final ballot for the modern-era committee, which makes it harder to predict who will be the team’s next representative in the Hall.

Seattle had six other representatives among the 122 nominees for the Class of 2020: quarterback Dave Krieg; center Ray Donaldson; punter Jeff Feagles; and running backs Shaun Alexander, Ricky Watters and Chris Warren.

However, only Watters advanced to the round of 25 semifinalists, and he was not among the 15 finalists.

Without any former Seahawks expected to join the ballot as newcomers next year, it looks like Watters is the team’s best chance at having a new modern-era Hall of Famer in 2021.

Of course, with Peyton Manning and Charles Woodson locks to get in on their first ballot and Calvin Johnson also up for consideration, it will be an extremely difficult year for Watters or any of the other former Seahawks to get enshrined.

That doesn’t mean they’ll be without a representative, however — both Mike Holmgren and Tom Flores, two former Seattle coaches, will be up for consideration again. It seems far more likely the Seahawks will have a former coach inducted in 2021 rather than a former player.

Edgerrin James, Steve Hutchinson inducted into Pro Football HOF

Former Seattle Seahawks guard Steve Hutchinson and running back Edgerrin James were both inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame officially announced the Modern-Era enshrinees for the Class of 2020 and two former Seattle Seahawks – guard Steve Hutchinson and running back Edgerrin James – were inducted.

Hutchinson becomes the fifth player drafted by the Seahawks to get inducted into the Hall of Fame, joining Kenny Easley, Cortez Kennedy, Walter Jones and Kevin Mawae.

Hutchinson has been a finalist the past few years, and he finally broke through and earned induction in 2020. He was a seven-time Pro Bowler and was named an All-Pro five times in an 11-year career.

He is now enshrined alongside Jones, his neighbor on the left side of Seattle’s offensive line in 2005, when running back Shaun Alexander won the MVP after rushing for 1,880 yards and 27 touchdowns.

James is of course known far more for his time with the Colts, but he did finish his playing career with the Seahawks – appearing in seven games during the 2009 season, rushing 46 times for 125 yards.

James was a four-time Pro Bowler and an All-Pro in 1999, rushing for 12,246 yards and 80 touchdowns in his career, both within the top 20 all-time.

James and Hutchinson were joined by three other players: safeties Troy Polamalu and Steve Atwater and receiver Isaac Bruce.

The Class of 2020 will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame in a ceremony in Canton, Ohio this summer.

Twitter reacts to Edgerrin James making Hall of Fame

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Edgerrin James making the Hall of Fame.

Indianapolis Colts legendary running back Edgerrin James had waited far too long to get the call, but he was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a part of the 2020 class.

After six years on the ballot and four times being a finalist, James rightfully gets in. James is the greatest statistical running back in Colts franchise history as the leader in career rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to James begin voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame:

Edgerrin James makes 2020 Hall of Fame class

He had two of the Cardinals’ eight best rushing seasons and was key in the Cardinals’ Super Bowl run in 2008.

The Arizona Cardinals have a new former player who will be immortalized in Canton, Ohio. Running back Edgerrin James has been selected as part of the 2020 class in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He announced it via his Instagram page.

James played 11 seasons in the NFL and rushed for more than 12,000 yards and had over 3,300 receiving yards.

He played seven seasons for the Indianapolis Colts, surpassing 1,200 yards fives times, 1,500 three times and leading the NFL in rushing twice.

He played three seasons for the Cardinals, rushing for more than 1,100 yards in two seasons. In the third season, he was part of the Cardinals’ Super Bowl team and led the team in rushing in the postseason.

His single-season rushing totals for the 2006 and 2007 seasons rank eighth and sixth in team history.

He was not with the Cardinals long and was not the player he was when he played for the Colts but he did make an impact and was a critical part to the Cardinals’ Super Bowl run.

Congrats to Edge!

Edgerrin James voted into Hall of Fame

Colts’ franchise leader at RB has made it into the Hall of Fame.

It seems that former Indianapolis Colts running back Edgerrin James has finally been voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after six years on the ballot.

While the entire list of five inductees hasn’t been made official yet—it will be revealed at the NFL Honors awards show Saturday night—James posted to his Instagram that he made it in.

The No. 4 overall pick in the 1999 NFL draft, James was an intricate part of a Colts offense that was lethal during the early 2000s. He was a first-team All-Pro during his rookie season and wound up becoming the Colts’ franchise leader in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.

James is 13th on the NFL’s all-time rushing yards list. All of the retired players on that list ahead of James and more than 20 running backs on the list behind him have been voted into the Hall of Fame.

James spent seven seasons with the Colts. Five of his seven seasons saw him finish with at least 1,250 rushing yards. He did so after a devastating knee injury in 2001.

Former Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne was also a finalist but didn’t get in. It was his first time on the ballot.

After spending six years on the Hall of Fame ballot and being a four-time finalist, James will finally send off his legacy with a gold jacket and a bust in Canton.
