Vikings waive defensive end Eddie Yarbrough

The Minnesota Vikings announced that the team has waived defensive end Eddie Yarbrough.

With the Vikings signing defensive back George Iloka to the 53-man roster, the team had to make another move in order to free up space.

That decision resulted in Minnesota waiving defensive end Eddie Yarbrough. He ended up having a good training camp and he has earned some playing time as a reserve in Week 1, where he made two solo tackles and a quarterback hit against the Packers.

However, Yarbrough has not played since then, and Iloka filled in for the ejected Harrison Smith last week.

Iloka was inconsistent in coverage, but made some nice tackles down the stretch of the game that helped Minnesota hang on to the victory.

Vikings defensive end Eddie Yarbrough has garnered praise in training camp

Vikings defensive end Eddie Yarbrough has had a strong training camp so far, according to multiple reporters.

When training camp first got underway, there were some Vikings players picking up praise. There’s also been some first-year players in danger of not seeing the field too much in 2020.

Not only that, but there are some under-the-radar players who have put together good training camp performances, with the hope of making the roster and more. One of those players has been defensive end Eddie Yarbrough.

Yarbrough was signed by the Vikings off the Bills’ practice squad. He’s picked up praise from Arif Hasan of The Athletic and Sam Ekstrom of Zone Coverage.

In his 53-man roster projection, Ekstrom picked Yarbrough to make the active roster, saying Jalyn Holmes and him are the “biggest guarantees of any depth options at defensive end.”

Hasan said that “Yarbrough continued their strong camp performances into the scrimmage (at U.S. Bank Stadium), with Yarbrough earning at least one sack and generating even more pressure.”

If Yarbrough keeps up the good work, he could earn playing time at a position — defensive end — that is now up in the air with Everson Griffen signing elsewhere.

The Bills signed defensive end Jonathan Woodard to their practice squad on Wednesday. The moves comes as a replacement for defender Eddie Yarbrough.

Yarbrough cracked the Bills’ 53-man roster in 2017 and 2018, but remained on the practice squad this season. In that role, a player is allowed to be signed by any other team, with the stipulation that the player is signed to their active roster.

A team came calling this week in the Minnesota Vikings. Yarbrough joined the playoff-bound Vikes this week and is no longer on the Bills.

On his way out, Yarbrough took to his social media account on Instagram to thank the Bills and Bills Mafia which started out, “Word can’t describe what the city, team, and entire Buffalo Bills organization has meant to me…”

#BillsMafia @buffalobills Words can’t describe what the city, team and the entire Buffalo Bills organization has meant to me these last 3 years. I truly gave you everything I had, and in return you adopted me as one of your own. I came in on the ground the floor and 2 playoff births later, we are partying ways. I’ve formed bonds and friendships that will last a lifetime here. The people of Buffalo have made me a better person & player from your examples and “smashing of tables” I wouldn’t trade these last 3 years for the world. I can’t thank you all enough for the love, cheers and support you have given me over the years. It did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. With so much love and all that I have…thank you. With that being said, I couldn’t be more excited to join the @vikings on this playoff run! And into the next year! I’m ready to get started and welcome this new & exciting chapter of my journey. #SKOL #GloryBeToGod

On Woodard, he was a seventh-round pick of the Jaguars in 2016 and suffered an Achilles injury soon after. From there, he spent time on the Falcons and Dolphins via their practice squads. He did see six games on Miami’s active roster in 2018 and has 10 career tackles and one sack.
