Edd Guerrier is going to fit in just fine with Rutgers football

Rutgers football commit Edd Guerrier produced a nice touchdown run and a special message this weekend.

Edd Guerrier certainly has the characteristics that head coach Greg Schiano wants in his Rutgers football recruits. Talented and explosive, Guerrier also has a competitive attitude.

That drive and character came out this weekend in his final game of high school football.

On Friday night Guerrier’s high school career came to an end with Port Charlotte’s (Port Charlotte, Florida) going through a 63-33 loss at Naples (Naples, Florida). Port Charlotte finished the season 9-3.

His 12-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter made it a 35-18 deficit for Port Charlotte.

It is a nice, tidy run from Guerrier to break through traffic with his legs churning and then to get into the open field. He followed a nice block to run the final eight yards untouched into the endzone.

After the touchdown, Guerrier’s comments were picked up by a camera in the end zone.

“Let’s go, we’re here boy! It’s not over!”

It’s that fight and fire following the touchdown that really stands out about Guerrier. It is a mentality that Schiano has instilled in the Rutgers football program and it seems that Guerrier’s character, despite being down, is something that will blend in well with the culture of the Rutgers locker room.

A three-star running back, Guerrier’s only other Power Five offer is from Louisville. He is ranked the No. 85 running back in the nation by the 247Sports Composite.

Watch: Rutgers football commit Edd Guerrier shows power and speed with this 60-yard touchdown run

Edd Guerrier made a jaw-droppingly good run on Friday night.

The second ‘d’ in his name must be for domination. Edd Guerrier, a Rutgers football commit, was simply unstoppable on Friday night during one impressive highlight. Guerrier dominated in the Florida playoffs, showing why Rutgers was so pleased to land him.

A 5-foot-9 and 192-pound running back, Guerrier has been strong this season for Port Charlotte High School (Port Charlotte, Florida). The class of 2024 running back committed to Rutgers in August.

His only other Power Five offer at the time of his commitment was from Louisville.

In this highlight run, Guerrier shows flashes of Ray Rice. His low center of gravity makes him difficult to take down and he breaks through two tackles in the open field on his way to a 60-yard touchdown run.

Port Charlotte is up big on Bishop Collier (Naples, Florida) in the FHSAA Football State Championships.

His ability to stay in stride while evading tackles is impressive. So too is his breakaway speed, which will be needed for him to get to the second level in the Big Ten.

This year through eight games, he had 724 rushing yards (on 84 carries) and 12 touchdowns. He’s had three games with over 100 yards rushing.

Three-star running back commit Edd Guerrier is sold on Rutgers football after his official visit

Edd Guerrier believes in the direction of Rutgers football following his weekend official visit.

Edd Guerrier committed to Rutgers football in July without having ever stepped foot on campus. This past weekend, the Florida running back was finally on campus when he took an official visit.

A visit, that Guerrier says, left him incredibly impressed.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound running back had 18 carries for a team-high 122 yards, averaging 6.8 yards a carry in the season opener for Port Charlotte (Fort Myers, Florida) two weeks ago. According to 247Sports, he is a three-star recruit and the No. 95 running back in the nation.

The weekend visit allowed Guerrier to see campus but also experience Sunday’s season opener, a 24-7 win by Rutgers over Big Ten opponent Northwestern.

So, my visit was nice. I loved the campus,” Guerrier told Rutgers Wire on Tuesday.

“I loved the energy. I loved the gameday environment. I loved how motivated the players were to play and I love how everybody was locked in, coaches included.

“The visit was nice and definitely somewhere I want to be.”

He held an offer from Louisville in addition to Bowling Green, South Dakota State and Tennessee Tech among others at the time of his commitment.

“Because they were showing me mad love and good energy and intentions,” Guerrier said.

“The way they’re all a family and have tight bonds.”

His official visit also left an impression from what he saw on the field. Rutgers played balanced offensively and was efficient, scoring three times in their opening three possessions to stake a 17-0 lead.

“I like the way the offense was run and they gave the running backs a good amount of touches,” Guerrier said.

When asked if he will be taking any more visits, Guerrier said that “I’m locked down, 100 percent.”

Film Review: Rutgers football finds an underrated three-star recruit in Edd Guerrier

Edd Guerrier has some big upside for Rutgers football.

Rutgers football landed a three-star 2024 recruit Edd Guerrier from Port Charlotte, Florida. Guerrier, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound running back, totaled 2,562 yards and 32 touchdowns in 25 games during his high school career. Also, he recorded 19 receptions for 282 yards and one touchdown throughout the past three seasons with the Pirates.

The Flordia native committed to Rutgers football on August 6 after receiving offers from Bowling Green, Louisville, South Dakota, Tennessee Tech, and Wofford. According to 247Sports, Guerrier is the No. 95 ranked running back in the nation and No. 195 prospect in Florida for the 2024 recruiting class.

In 2022, Guerrier helped Port Charlotte achieve a 7-3 record and a bid to the second round of the state playoffs. Film Breakdown

When reviewing Guerrier’s highlight film, his burst of speed is the first athletic characteristic that stands out. According to Guerrier’s Hudl profile, the speedy running back recorded a 4.4 time in the 40-yard dash. The 2024 recruit exceeds in the open field, showing off his breakaway speed.

Guerrier’s vision and familiarity with zone running will allow him to succeed under Rutgers Offensive Coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca’s rushing scheme.

Being a little undersized for a running back at the Power Five level, the 5-foot-10 recruit is a powerful runner. Guerrier earns extra yardage on each carry, not stopping his feet after contact. The Scarlet Knights can benefit from Guerrier’s speed and strong running on special teams, adding a dangerous return man to their roster.

[lawrence-related id=29331]

Looking at Rutgers’ roster outlook, the Scarlet Knights have eight running backs in their program when Guerrier reports to campus in 2024. With a crowded backfield, Guerrier has to outwork the other running backs on Rutgers’ roster if he wants to get some carries at the Power Five level.

Rutgers football commit Edd Guerrier gets his new ranking

Edd Guerrier recently got his ranking from 247Sports.

Edd Guerrier, who committed to Rutgers football last week, may be nicknamed ‘G2’ but he is in fact a three-star.

Guerrier, one of the top running backs in Florida, was finally given a three-star ranking by 247Sports on Thursday.

Strong and physical, the 5-foot-9 and 192-pound running back is impressive once he gets to the second level. Guerrier plays for a small program in Port Charlotte High School (Port Charlotte, FL). Last season in 10 games played, he had 1,450 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns. He averaged 7.7 yards per carry.

He tweeted about his new ranking from 247Sports which places him as the No. 95 running back in the nation:

Guerrier was offered by Rutgers this past Sunday. He committed to Rutgers later that day.

While the whole process seems like a quick one, Guerrier said the relationship formed with Rutgers has been developing over time.

“I was feeling the good relationship with coach,” Guerrier said.

“I feel like my recruitment was off where I had the best relationship, And I had no problem making my choice to commit based off of that without ever being there.”

He also held offers from Bowling Green and South Dakota State.

A missed call, no cell phone for four days, and an interrupted church service: How Edd Guerrier committed to Rutgers football

Edd Guerrier details his unusual commitment to Rutgers football.

Edd Guerrier inadvertently made Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano wait four days before offering the Florida running back. Seems that Rutgers and Schiano thought the unranked recruit was worth the wait.

Last week, Guerrier’s Port Charlotte High School football program participated in a lock-in event where they didn’t have access to their cell phones from Wednesday through Saturday. The team-building event was supposed to help build continuity and community within the program and cell phones were seen as a distraction. They weren’t allowed.

Shortly before the lock-in started, Guerrier received a call from Schiano that ended up going unanswered for those four days.

Guerrier wasn’t even aware that the Rutgers coach had called until Sunday, when he received another call from Schiano. After five days, Schiano was trying Guerrier back again.

It was a call that Guerrier said interrupted the end of his Sunday church service.

He stepped outside for the FaceTime call where he was given his second Power Five offer. He committed to Rutgers that afternoon and made it public on Sunday evening.

“If I’m going to be honest, it wasn’t’ a quick process,” Guerrier told Rutgers Wire on Monday night.

“I’d been talking with the coach for four months, been building a good relationship. It got to the point he’d Facetime me. It wasn’t something I thought of overnight.”

[lawrence-related id=29023]

A 5-foot-9 and 192-pound running back at Port Charlotte High School (Port Charlotte, FL), Guerrier is a physical runner who is difficult to take down. He has impressive speed once he gets to the second level.

His numbers from last year are impressive. During the 2022 season, he had 1,450 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns in 10 games for Port Charlotte.

Adding to all this is that Guerrier committed to Rutgers without having ever visited the program. That all will change on September 3 when he takes an official visit for the season opener against Northwestern.

It is a bit unusual for sure, but Guerrier said that relationships won out in his recruitment. He said that he had a strong relationship with running backs coach Damiere Shaw as well as Schiano.

“I was feeling the good relationship with coach,” Guerrier said.

“I feel like my recruitment was off where I had the best relationship, And I had no problem making my choice to commit based off of that without ever being there.”

Guerrier has some family in New Jersey, including a sister who lives in the state along with an uncle. At Rutgers, he hopes to major in sports business.

[lawrence-related id=29056]

A business degree, he said, is something that is versatile and can help him when his playing career is over. He would potentially like to get into personal training and open his own fitness facility.

He is definitely an under-the-radar player. Guerrier held just one Power Five offer (Louisville) prior to this weekend. At the time of his commitment, he was unranked by any of the four major recruiting services.

He also held offers from Bowling Green and South Dakota State.
