Commanders upset Lions; Eagles can host NFC Championship game with win over Rams

Commanders upset win over the Lions puts Eagles in position to host the NFC Championship game with a win over the Rams on Sunday

The conference championship game could have an NFC East feel after the No. 6 seed Washington Commanders (12-5) defeated the No. 1 seed Detroit Lions (15-2) 45-31 at Ford Field on Saturday night. This puts Philadelphia in a position to host their division rivals.

Washington’s 45 points were the most in a playoff game in franchise history.

The Eagles have to handle their business, but a win over the Rams (10-7) would see the Commanders travel to Philadelphia next Sunday afternoon for a shot to battle the AFC winner in the Super Bowl in New Orleans.

Detroit quarterback Jared Goff threw three interceptions and was uneven all night. He went 23-40 passing for 313 yards (7.8 avg), one touchdown, and a 59.7 quarterback rating. The Lions’ running game was dynamic but underused, as Jahmyr Gibbs had 14 carries for 105 yards (7.5 avg) and two rushing touchdowns.

Eagles blast NWA’s ‘Straight Outta Compton’ at practice ahead of divisional round game vs. Rams

The Eagles have won two straight over the Rams in Los Angeles, but they’ll host Sean McVay’s squad at Lincoln Financial Field in the NFC Divisional Round game. With Philadelphia loose and preparing for the contest at the Linc, the Eagles’ playlist included NWA’s smash hit, Straight Outta Compton. In the Week 12 win on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, Saquon Barkley exploded for a career-high 255 rushing yards as Philadelphia put the league on notice with a 37-20 win at SoFi Stadium on Sunday. After allowing the Rams to rack up over 100 yards in the first quarter, the Eagles held the Rams to just four net yards in the second quarter and 290 total yards overall as Sean McVay’s explosive offense was grounded outside several big plays. Philadelphia Eagles to face the Rams in divisional round of NFC playoffs after Los Angeles defeated the Minnesota Vikings in wild card round

The Eagles advanced to the divisional round of the NFC playoffs after beating the Packers on Sunday. They’ll face the Rams in a rematch of Philadelphia’s 37-20 victory over Los Angeles in Week 12.

On Monday night, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was 19-27 passing for 209 yards (7.7 avg) and two touchdowns, while Kyren Williams carried the rushing attack with 16 carries for 76 yards.  On defense, Chris Shula’s unit held Justin Jefferson and Aaron Jones in check while sacking Minnesota quarterback Sam Darnold an astounding nine times.

The Rams and Vikings were initially supposed to play at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. However, due to the wildfires in Southern California, the league relocated the game to State Farm Stadium in Arizona.

Divisional Weekend, presented by Intuit TurboTax, will take place on Jan. 18-19 (all times ET).

In game one for the NFC, Detroit will host Washington on Saturday night on Fox.   Philadelphia will face the Rams on Sunday on NBC and Peacock.

2 ways the Eagles can clinch the NFC East in Week 17

Eagles can clinch the NFC East division with a win over the Cowboys or a Commanders loss in Week 17

The Eagles had their ten-game winning streak snapped with a 36-33 loss to the Commanders in Week 16, but Philadelphia still controls its own destiny for the division and the No. 2 overall seed.

Philadelphia has clinched a playoff berth and now wants to wrap up the division.

The NFL released official clinching scenarios for each team in Week 17, and the Eagles have two options.

  1. PHI win or tie
  2. WAS loss or tie

Philadelphia will host Dallas at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, while Washington will host Atlanta on NBC’s Sunday night football. The Falcons will have plenty to play for in Michael Penix’s second start.

An Atlanta win would wrap up the NFC South for Raheem Morris, and the Eagles would win the division regardless of what happens earlier in the day.

LeBron James among big names in attendance for Rams vs. Eagles on SNF

LeBron James among big names in attendance for Rams vs. Eagles on NBC’s Sunday Night Football

The stars are out at SoFi Stadium for the Eagles and Rams, and the biggest name in the NBA, LeBron James, was front and center to watch Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, Saquon Barkley, and the Birds battle Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp, and the Los Angeles Rams.

James has a hilarious DraftKings commercial with Kevin Hart, so it was only fitting that he cheered on the best team in the NFC.

James is watching Saquon Barkley’s explosion. The Eagles running back has now accounted for 152 yards rushing (9.5 avg) and one touchdown on 16 carries midway through the third quarter, and Philadelphia holds a 27-14 lead on the road.
