Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts sent to the hospital to be evaluated for a stomach infection

Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts was sent to the hospital to be evaluated for a stomach infection

The Eagles seem to have some insight into what prevented Jalen Hurts from starting the team’s second preseason game just moments before kickoff.

Head coach Nick Sirianni confirmed that Hurts was dealing with an intense stomach cramp that forced the second-year star to visit the emergency room for evaluation. Had this been a regular-season or playoff game, Hurts likely would have been able to play amid the Eagles taking this precaution.

Adam Schefter reported that Hurts is dealing with a stomach infection, and will require a few day’s rests.

The absence of the athletic quarterback allowed Philadelphia to see what life could be with Joe Flacco or Nick Mullens under center.

Flacco was 10-for-17 for 83 yards, with one interception and a 46.9 passer rating. The veteran targeted his wide receivers eight times, completing three for 24 yards, with his longest being a 12-yard completion.

Landon Dickerson is quickly becoming a fan favorite in Philadelphia and his pregame outfit is likely to bring the former Alabama star more fandom.

Twitter reacts to everything and Thursday night with Dickerson was no exception.

The Eagles’ second-round pick won’t be in action tonight, but he stole the show when he arrived at Lincoln Financial Field in overalls, boots, and no t-shirt.

DeVonta Smith is expected to make his preseason debut against the Patriots

Despite taking a limited amount of reps during two days of joint practice with the Patriots, rookie wide receiver DeVonta Smith is expected to make his preseason debut on Thursday night.

Smith participated in team drills during a joint practice against the New England Patriots on Tuesday, his first since he sprained his left MCL on Aug. 1.

“I’m excited. I feel good,” said Smith. “Just taking it day by day, step by step, just continuing to get better and get more comfortable with it.”

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni would not commit to Smith playing in Thursday’s preseason action, with most pointing to the regular-season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 12.
