Edge rusher prospects for Chiefs in each round of the 2023 NFL draft

Here’s a look at some of the edge rushers the #Chiefs could consider adding in each round of the 2023 NFL draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs could opt to reinforce the defensive line in the 2023 NFL draft, including additions at the edge rusher position.

The team invested in the position just a season ago, selecting George Karlaftis in the first round of the draft. With Frank Clark’s release and Carlos Dunlap still a free agent, the Chiefs could use some reinforcements at edge rusher. Many consider this class to be quite deep at the position too, with upwards of eight players at the position projected in Round 1.

Safety prospects for Chiefs in each round of the 2023 NFL draft

Here’s a look at some of the safety prospects the #Chiefs could consider adding in each round of the 2023 NFL draft.

It might look like the safety room is rather full for the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of the 2023 NFL draft.

The addition of Mike Edwards and re-signing of Deon Bush, have the room looking set as far as depth and starters are concerned. As we’ve learned in the past, it’s important creating a competitive environment for the upcoming NFL season, but also to create depth for the future.

One wide receiver the Packers could target in each round of 2023 NFL draft

Identifying one wide receiver prospect for the Packers in each of the seven rounds of the 2023 NFL draft.

The Green Bay Packers need more playmakers at the wide receiver position. While Brian Gutekunst is likely going to add a veteran at some point this offseason, the real chance to add talent will be in the 2023 NFL Draft.

While it’s not loaded with top-end talent like previous years, the upcoming draft does have quality players at the position, particularly on day two and early on day three of the draft.

Let’s take a look at one wide receiver in each round that the Packers could potentially target in the 2023 NFL draft.

Potential wide receiver prospects for Chiefs in each round of the 2020 NFL Draft

A look at some of the receiver prospects the Kansas City Chiefs could add in each round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Remarkably, the Kansas City Chiefs will return all of their receivers from their Super Bowl-winning season. The team re-signed Demarcus Robinson and reworked Sammy Watkins’ contract to lower his cap hit. That means all of the top targets for Patrick Mahomes will be back for the 2020 season.

Still, as Brett Veach said in his pre-draft press conference, the Chiefs are planning not just for the 2020 NFL season but with the future in mind. Both Robinson and Watkins are scheduled to become free agents again in 2021, which puts a future need on adding players to the receiver room. Round 1: Arizona State WR Brandon Aiyuk

There’s a lot to like about Aiyuk’s game. At 6-foot and 205 pounds, he has good size and physicality for the NFL game. He’s an extremely explosive athlete with the ball in his hands, capable of turning a quick slant into a 70-yard touchdown. During his senior season at Arizona State, he more than doubled his yardage total from the season prior with just 32 more catches.

His athletic testing proved that his tape wasn’t a fluke, running a 4.5 40-yard dash at the combine and posting a 40-inch vertical leap. Aiyuk also has upside as a return man on both punts and kicks. He had some of the top production at kick returner in the country in 2019.

Many believe that Aiyuk is the superior prospect to N’Keal Harry, who was also from Arizona State and was drafted at pick No. 32 last season. This option would help the Chiefs keep a healthy arsenal of weapons for QB Patrick Mahomes.

Potential cornerback prospects for Chiefs in each round of the 2020 NFL Draft

A look at some of the cornerback prospects the Kansas City Chiefs could add in each round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Both of the Kansas City Chiefs’ starting outside cornerbacks are set to become free agents in 2021. Bashaud Breeland will be a free agent again after re-signing on a one-year deal. Charvarius Ward will be a restricted free agent, so it’s likely that he’ll be back at least for that season. There is a need to find some cheap options in the draft to eventually replace one or both of these players.

Kansas City has been interested in adding a cornerback since the 2018 NFL Draft. They had a strong interest in now-Vikings cornerback Mike Hughes in 2018. We learned on the Chiefs’ 2019 documentary series “The Franchise” that the team also had an interest in many of the corners selected at the top of the second round in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Will 2020 be the year the Chiefs land a cornerback early in the draft? Here’s a look at some of the cornerback prospects Kansas City could consider in each round of the 2020 NFL Draft:

Round 1: TCU CB Jeff Gladney

At 5-10 and 191 pounds, Gladney is one of the smaller corners getting first-round consideration, but he has good length with 32-inch arms. One thing that stands out with Gladney is his durability. He’s been a four-year starter at TCU appearing in 46 career games with the team, missing no time due to injury.

Gladney is an athletic cover corner, and while he doesn’t have the desired measurables, he never shies away from the competition. He knows how to fight through the catch point against bigger receivers. He’s very aggressive when defending the run.

Gladney has drawn a lot of interest from the Chiefs in the pre-draft process. Some view him as the No. 3 corner behind Jeff Okudah and C.J. Henderson, so the Chiefs might have to get lucky to draft him here.

Potential interior offensive line prospects for Chiefs in each round of the 2020 NFL Draft

A look at some of the interior offensive linemen the Kansas City Chiefs could add in each round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs could use some upgrades along the interior offensive line. It was the one area of questionable depth during their Super Bowl-winning season. If it wasn’t for Stefen Wisniewski being miraculously available, they could have been in a lot of trouble.

Historically, the team hasn’t invested a lot of draft capital and free-agent spending in the guard and center positions. Since Andy Reid’s arrival in 2013, the top-drafted interior offensive lineman was Mitch Morse in with pick No. 49 in 2015. The strategy lately has been to draft and develop players in the late round, while established players are already in place.

Many project the Chiefs to be positioned to draft some of the top interior players in this class. That could potentially allow them to alter their strategy a bit. Here’s a look at some of the interior offensive line prospects Kansas City could consider in each round of the 2020 NFL Draft:

Round 1: Michigan IOL Cesar Ruiz

Ruiz is a versatile and dependable interior offensive line prospect, who will be 21 years old during his first NFL season. At 6-3 and 307 pounds, he’s been calling the shots for the Michigan offensive line as starting center for the last two seasons.

In 2019, Ruiz was the top pass-blocking center in the country, allowing just eight pressures in 447 pass-blocking snaps. He’d be a perfect fit in the Chiefs’ zone-blocking scheme. He can handle pulling duties and redirect defenders. He’s very active as a run blocker and a pass protector, always going the extra mile.

Center was easily one of the biggest weaknesses for the Chiefs in 2019. While Austin Reiter didn’t have any snapping issues, he struggled in pass protection and run blocking. They could use an upgrade there and Ruiz would be the top to fortify the position for the next five seasons.

Potential tight end prospects for Chiefs in each round of the 2020 NFL Draft

A look at some of the tight ends the Kansas City Chiefs could add in each round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs don’t have an overwhelming amount of needs at the tight end position.

The Chiefs already have the best tight end in the NFL in Travis Kelce. Behind him, they have a plethora of players, with several primed and ready to contribute. The only one on the 53-man roster last season was Deon Yelder, who contributed on special teams and as a blocker. They have returning practice squad players in Nick Keizer and Alize Mack. They also have new free-agent addition Ricky Seals-Jones, who will likely have a pass-catching role in the offense.

Blake Bell is the only player at the position who won’t be back with the team in 2020. His production and snaps are hardly irreplaceable, though. I suspect that any of the players above are capable of producing a similar season as a receiver, if not a better season.

While the need isn’t there, Kansas City could always take an interest in adding a player if they’re the best available at a certain point in the draft. With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the tight ends the Chiefs could consider in each round of the 2020 NFL draft:

Round 1: None

Sometimes there just aren’t any players at a certain position worth spending a first-round draft pick. This tight end class isn’t the most exciting group and with the 2021 class shaping up to be one of the best in a long time, it’s hard to imagine any team spending a first-round pick on a tight end. The Chiefs shouldn’t have any tight ends on their draft board this early.
