Former Georgia DB AJ Harris is visiting Auburn this weekend

Harris, a native of Phenix City, is visiting Auburn this weekend after spending one season in Athens.

Hugh Freeze and Auburn’s coaching staff have struck gold by earning the commitments of two Central-Phenix City prospects, [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Gentry[/autotag].

Do they feel lucky enough to roll the dice on the possibility of earning a pledge from another former Red Devil? The possibility is evident.

[autotag]AJ Harris[/autotag], who signed with Georgia as a member of the 2023 recruiting class from Central-Phenix City, entered the transfer portal on Thursday. Not long after announcing his intention to enter the transfer portal, Harris made plans to visit Auburn. According to On3, Harris is paying a visit to the Plains this weekend.

Harris was the No. 1 recruit from the state of Alabama for the 2023 class. He was considered to be a five-star prospect by 247Sports, and was the No. 2 cornerback in the nation.

Despite the high-acclaim on the recruiting trail, Harris did not earn as much playing time in Athens that he was expecting. He played in five games this season for Georgia according to Pro Football Focus, totaling 89 snaps.

Auburn is looking to replace [autotag]DJ James[/autotag] and [autotag]Nehemiah Pritchett[/autotag] in the backfield next season, and Harris could be a solid fit. The current transfer portal window will remain open until Jan. 2.

Auburn LB commit set to bring a ‘winning mindset and winning attitude’ to the Plains

2024 pledge D’Angelo Barber played a key role in Clay-Chalkville’s AHSAA Class 6A state title win, and wants to be just as vital to Auburn’s defense.

Just two days after Auburn commits [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Gentry[/autotag] won the AHSAA Class 7A championship with Central-Phenix City, another Auburn commit joined them by winning one of his own.

The star-studded Clay-Chalkville Cougars took down Saraland, 31-28, last Friday at Bryant-Denney Stadium in Tuscaloosa to win the AHSAA Class 6A championship. The win was due in part to a valiant effort by Clay-Chalkville linebacker and 2024 Auburn commit [autotag]D’Angelo Barber[/autotag]. Barber made seven stops in the win, but it was the final one that clinched the title.

On the final play of the game, Saraland needed just 10 yards to score the game-winning touchdown. Spartans quarterback and 2025 Texas commit KJ Lacey rushed nine yards before colliding with Barber at the one-yard line. The clock expired, thus giving the victory to Clay-Chalkville.

In an interview with Jason Caldwell of Auburn Undercover after the game, Barber says that he wished for the chance to make a crucial play on the final drive.

“That whole drive I was saying to myself, please throw it my way,” Barber said. “Please run it my way. I know the defense we have and we just trust each other every single day. We work out hard. We practice hard. We always make sure we give it 110 percent because we know our brothers beside us are going to do the same thing.”

Barber made the stop in front of Auburn head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and linebackers coach [autotag]Josh Aldridge[/autotag] who were in attendance, which Barber considers a “blessing.” The effort that Barber gave on the final play of the state championship game is what Freeze, Aldridge, and Auburn fans can expect out of Barber during his time on the Plains.

“I’m bringing a winning mindset and a winning attitude (to Auburn),” Barber said. “I’m bringing hard work and dedication that you can’t really build over time. You just have to come with it. I’m just focused on taking my last exams and getting down there and getting to work immediately.”

Barber is a three-star linebacker and is the No. 35 overall recruit from the state of Alabama for the 2024 recruiting cycle. He is expected to sign with Auburn during the early signing period that begins Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Dylan Gentry announces commitment to Auburn

Gentry is set to join high school teammate Cam Coleman in Auburn.

Who says Auburn can not recruit well in Phenix City?

It is for sure a new era on the Plains as head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and his staff have landed their second 2024 commitment from a Central-Phenix City High School wide receiver in as many weeks.

[autotag]Dylan Gentry[/autotag], a three-star wide receiver and high school teammate of 2024 five-star Auburn commitment [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag], announced Sunday that he is pledging to the Tigers. According to 247Sports, Gentry has fielded offers from Florida A&M and Albany State but will join the Tigers after earning a preferred walk-on offer in November.

Gentry ended the season as Central’s third-leading receiver with 540 yards on 29 catches with seven touchdowns. He trailed only Auburn commit Cam Coleman and [autotag]Daylyn Upshaw[/autotag], a 2025 prospect who owns an Auburn offer. In last week’s AHSAA Class 7A state championship game, Gentry caught two passes for 36 yards.
