ESPN analyst Dusty Dvoracek: ‘Heck yeah, I’m buying stock in Dabo and Clemson’

ESPN analyst Dusty Dvoracek is buying stock in Clemson football.

Are you buying stock in Clemson football?

Saturday, following Clemson’s big win over Notre Dame, head coach Dabo Swinney stated, “If Clemson’s a stock, you better buy all you can freakin’ can buy right now!” It was a big win for the Tigers and Swinney, who won his 166th game as Clemson’s head coach, surpassing the great Frank Howard as the program’s all-time winningest head coach.

When asked if he was buying Clemson’s stock following the win, ESPN’s Dusty Dvoracek said: “I never sold any stock, Tyler!” A funny jab at Tyler from Spartanburg.

“Of course, I’m buying stock. That culture is strong. I’d like him to utilize the transfer portal a little bit more. But heck yeah, I’m buying stock in Dabo and Clemson.”

Is Clemson back on the rise? It is just one game, but the next few weeks should show us more about the direction this program is heading.

Worst Bears draft pick from each year since 2000

We look back at the worst Bears draft pick from each year since the turn of the century.

The 2023 NFL draft will be here before we know it and it’s once again another golden opportunity for the Chicago Bears to improve their team with young talent. The Bears hold four selections in the top 64 picks, including the No. 9 overall pick, giving them a shot to select premier players across multiple positions.

As is the case every year, the NFL draft is an inexact science and not every pick is going to pan out. The Bears have certainly had their fair share of misses over the years.

We already looked at the best player from each draft, now it’s time to review the worst player from each Bears draft class since 2000.

ESPN radio host says LSU has real chance to compete for a national title in 2023

LSU’s returning talent gives it a real chance to go all the way, says Dusty Dvoracek.

Dusty Dvoracek has high expectations for LSU in 2023.

“I think they got a real chance to play for a national championship,” the ESPN host said on SiriusXM radio Tuesday.

Dvoracek is impressed with what LSU’s bringing back, citing the returns of [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and [autotag]Harold Perkins[/autotag]. He alluded to other coaches that found success in year two like Bob Stoops and Jim Tressel.

Dvoracek isn’t the only one who thinks LSU has a chance to compete for a title. The Tigers should begin the year in the top 10 and are near the top in national title odds. Anytime there’s an experienced coach with a returning QB surrounded by talent, it’s going to draw attention.

LSU’s got a tough opener against FSU, who could begin the year ranked even higher. All eyes will be on Orlando to start the year with that game occupying the stand-alone Sunday night game with the added drama of a rematch between two teams with national title aspirations.

How many points will Pitt put up vs. Clemson? ESPN analyst weighs in

An ESPN college football analyst and former Big 12 and NFL defensive lineman weighed in on today’s 3:30 p.m. game between Clemson and No. 23 Pittsburgh at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

On ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM on Friday, Dusty Dvoracek was asked how many points he thinks the Panthers will put up against the Tigers’ defense, which ranks second in the FBS in points per game allowed (12.5). Pitt’s offense enters the contest ranked second nationally in points per game scored (48.3).

Dvoracek believes the Panthers will win and predicts it to be somewhere along the lines of a 24-17 score.

“I think it is a low-scoring affair,” said Dvoracek, who played for Oklahoma from 2001-05 before being drafted 73rd overall in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears.

“If you’re going to pin me down and make me give you a number, like, 24-17, I can see. Somewhere in that ilk. I believe the over/under is 47, 48, which by the way, Pitt is averaging 48.3 a game. So, they’re scoring more than the over/under (47.5). That’s a tell-tale sign that this is a really good Clemson Tiger defense, and I think that they’ll still be good. It’s not going to be easy, but I just don’t think their offense can muster up much. I think 24-17. It wouldn’t shock me if they’re able to put up maybe 27. I don’t think they get to 30. I think it’s mid-to-high 20s is where I see Pitt falling and being able to score.”

On the flip side, Dvoracek also discussed the matchup between Clemson’s offense and Pitt’s defense, which comes into the contest ranked 34th nationally allowing 20.0 points per game.

The Tigers, meanwhile, are scoring 20.5 points per game on average – a number that ranks 113th nationally.

“Here’s the thing about (Pitt head coach) Pat Narduzzi and his defenses,” Dvoracek said. “They’re going to choke out the run. They play press quarters, they walk those safeties in about 8 yards, they insert them in the box and they dare you to beat you over the top. If Clemson’s going to win against Pitt, D.J. Uiagalelei’s going to have to hit some shots over the top, and they’ve got the personnel to do it. They do. Will he have enough time? I question that. Will this offensive line be able to protect, because there will be pressure brought.

“Coach (Randy) Bates, the defensive coordinator, he dials it up, man. They bring all kinds of pressures. They are very aggressive at Pitt. So, that’s where I question, can Clemson’s offensive line hold up? Because if they can, there’s going to be opportunities there for D.J. Uiagalelei to make shots over the top. And I will say Clemson is not devoid of talent. Justyn Ross and company, they’ve got dudes outside. The question is can the offensive line hold up, and when they do, can D.J. Uiagalelei deliver the football? I’m saying he can’t, because I haven’t seen it so far this year.”

Pitt (5-1, 2-0 ACC) is a 3.5-point home favorite against Clemson (4-2, 3-1). The game will be televised on ESPN.

Former Venables player not showing much respect for Clemson

A former Big 12 and NFL defensive lineman appeared on SiriusXM Radio on Friday and made his prediction for Saturday’s game between Clemson and No. 23 Pittsburgh.

Dusty Dvoracek, an ESPN college football analyst, thinks the Panthers will beat the Tigers as well as cover the three-point spread.

Dvoracek has faith in Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi and quarterback Kenny Pickett entering Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. contest at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, and believes that Clemson’s run of consecutive ACC Championships (six) will come to an end this season.

“It’s important for three people. Pitt, Pat, Pickett – the three Ps,” Dvoracek said. “And I’m backing ‘em. I want the Pitt Panthers, minus 3. Down goes Clemson. Down goes Clemson. I think that this reign in the ACC is coming to a screeching halt this year.”

Through six games this season, Pickett has completed 69.8 percent of his passes for 1,934 yards and 21 touchdowns with just one interception.

Dvoracek expects the senior to shine on Saturday and have a Heisman moment against the Tigers’ defense, which ranks second nationally in points per game allowed (12.5).

“I think Kenny Pickett, this is such a big stage at home,” Dvoracek said. “He’s going to be poised, he’s going to perform, and I think he’s going to have a big afternoon against Clemson. I don’t know if he’s going to put up five touchdowns, but I think he’s going to be efficient and I think he’s going to lead this offense and have enough success against that vaunted defense that everybody’s going to say ‘wow, that’s his signature moment, there it is right there.’ Saturday’s going to vault Kenny Pickett to the top of several Heisman Trophy ballots. They’re going to win, they’re going to cover, and Pitt is going to be in the driver’s seat for the ACC.”

Dvoracek played for Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables in the early 2000s when Venables was the DC at Oklahoma, but Dvoracek is still going with Pitt to win Saturday.

“I will back the Pitt Panthers,” he said. “I will go against my former defensive coordinator. I got nothing but love to you Coach V. Nothing but love baby. I believe in ya, just not this week against this freight train called the Pitt Panthers. Pitt wins, and they cover.”
