Duke fans review bombed Riley Leonard’s professor after he playfully didn’t give him a homework extension

Duke fans weren’t happy to hear Riley Leonard didn’t get more homework time.

After Duke quarterback Riley Leonard led his team to a stunning upset of Clemson on Monday night, a last-minute plea to one of his professors didn’t quite go as planned.

After the game, Leonard was filmed asking one of his teachers, Dr. Donald Taylor, if he could get an extension on one of his assignments since he had been playing football the night before it was due.

Well, Taylor congratulated Leonard on his team’s big win, but he didn’t grant the extension since some of Leonard’s teammates told the professor they’d gotten the assignment in before it was due.

It all seemed like it was in good fun, but some Duke fans didn’t take it that way.

Taylor’s page on the teacher rating site Rate My Professor began getting review bombed by petty Duke fans who felt Leonard should’ve gotten a pass on his late homework.

“Give my man Riley a break,” one faux-review posted on the page.

“How natural it is to destroy what we cannot possess, to deny what we do not understand, and to insult what we envy!” another faux-review read.

It got to the point where Rate My Professor restricted reviews on Taylor’s page to prevent any trolling from going on.

The whole situation was clearly in jest, and we’d guess Leonard actually got a little more time to work on his homework after Monday’s game.

If you’re a Duke student wondering if Taylor’s class is worth taking, we’ll leave you with this positive Rate My Professor review from another of his students.

“Didn’t know what to expect before taking this class but Prof. Taylor really surprised me,” the review reads. “He is one of the nicest and most caring faculty members I’ve interacted with so far and really enjoyed taking his class. There were times where I didn’t know where I stood grade-wise but it is obvious he really cares about his students’ learning.”

Dabo Swinney won’t quit on this Clemson football team

After an upset loss in Week 1, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is not quitting on his team.

Dabo Swinney and the No.25 Clemson Tigers had a tough Week 1, where they were upset on the road against Mike Elko and the Duke Blue Devils.

The start to the season no one wanted, the Tigers (0-1, 0-1 ACC) were thrashed 28-7 in a sloppy performance that handed Duke their first win against the program since 2004. A season with so much promise and anticipation started in about the worst way possible, as self-inflicted wounds were a major issue for the Tigers.

With Week 1 behind us, it is all about how Clemson responds. They’ve got the right head coach for a response, as Swinney is not giving up on this team.

“Just critical, critical, critical mistakes and errors, and it’s a gut-wrenching thing, man. It is,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said. “You work so hard. I love this team, though. I really do. I love this team, I love the staff, and we’ve got to stay together, and we’ve got to bounce back and get back to work.”

Swinney isn’t giving up on this team, but he knows others are going to. When you have a performance like this to start the season, questions will be raised, and many will think the worst. Regardless, Swinney, of how people feel, knows this team will bounce back.

“I know a lot of people are probably going to quit on us and give up on us and throw us away. But man, I ain’t quitting, and I ain’t throwing this team away,” the head coach said. “We’re going to bounce back, and we’re going to get better; we’re going to learn from it. I love the kids in the locker room, and we’ll stay together, and we’ll get back to work.”

There is still a ton of season left, so it is too late to call this season over. The Tigers’ first opportunity to bounce back comes against Charleston Southern in Clemson’s home opener.

The ACC is back, and it was an exciting week, with each team showing us some of what we can expect this season. With the crazy week of football, we are releasing our first batch of ACC rankings for the 2023 season. Here is how I’m breaking down the ACC after Week 1’s performances.

Clemson left Wallace Wade Stadium on Monday night with a devasting 28-7 loss to Duke.

Between two fumbles in the red zone, two blocked field goals and a whole host of other mistakes, the Tigers deserved to lose their 2023 season opener.

That said, here are some of the best photos from Monday night’s game:

Five takeaways from Clemson’s deflating loss to Duke

Here are five takeaways from Clemson’s upset loss to Duke.

When Dabo Swinney and the Tigers kicked off their 2023 season against the Duke Blue Devils, there are few, if any, who would have predicted this result.

Clemson was the heavy favorite heading into this matchup, and they continually dealt self-inflicted wounds in their 28-7 loss to Duke. There’s no doubt that the Blue Devils played a strong game, but it is as clear as day that the Tigers did themselves no favors with their sloppy tackling and turnovers in the red zone.

It is difficult to find positives from a performance like this as each No.9 Clemson fan likely feels the same deflated feeling. What could have been a great start to another Clemson football season quickly turned into a nightmare. This was the most frustrating game I’ve watched since I started covering Clemson football.

Here are five takeaways from Clemson’s crushing opening week loss to Duke.

Clemson upset by Duke as turnovers cost the Tigers

Swinney and the Tigers suffer a brutal loss on the road against Duke to start their 2023 season.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers 2023 season start off on a bad note, with Clemson falling 28-7 on the road to Mike Elko and the Duke Blue Devils.

Things went about as poorly as they could for No.9 Clemson (0-1, 0-1 ACC), who started the game slow on the offensive side of the ball. Duke got the game’s first points on a 22-yard field goal on their first possession. They later extended their lead to 6-0 after a 42-yard field goal to start the second quarter.

Clemson’s only points of the game came in the second quarter as the result of a muffed punt. Starting the drive on the 19-yard line, after a few plays, after a few plays, starting quarterback Cade Klubnik found star running back Will Shipley on an easy 2-yard touchdown pass.

It was all Duke from there on as sloppy play, red zone turnovers, and lack of discipline saw the Tigers suffer a brutal second half. Things went about as poorly as they could for the Tigers in this one.

It’s not the start Swinney or Clemson fans wanted for the program.

Clemson Football: How to watch Week 1 vs. Duke

Here is your guide on how to watch Clemson football’s Week 1 matchup against the Duke Blue Devils.

The day has finally arrived as Clemson opens up their 2023 college football season today with a Labor Day matchup against the Duke Blue Devils in Durham.

Every team in college football has a different start to their season. Some start on the easier side of things, facing an FCS opponent to open their season. Others like Florida State and LSU open up against a top-tier opponent under the lights and on the big stage. For the Tigers, it is an ACC matchup against a tough Duke team with a head coach and starting quarterback to follow up their break out in 2022 with a strong season in 2023.

Clemson has the tools to take down Duke and head into the matchup as two-score favorites. Even if they are heavy favorites, it should be a great competition.

With all the hype surrounding the Tigers in 2023, there’s no doubt fans will want to tune in. We’re here to tell you how to watch:

5 Clemson players to watch closely in Duke opener

Here are 5 Clemson players to keep an eye on when the Tigers take on Duke Monday night.

With roughly 24 hours before Clemson kicks off its 2023 season against Duke, there are several players who will have a spotlight on them in the Week 1 contest.

Between a new offensive coordinator, a new opening-day starting quarterback and several other changes from last season, Clemson is one of the most interesting teams to pay attention to this fall. And it all starts with Monday’s matchup.

Here are five Clemson players to watch closely when the Tigers take on the Blue Devils at 8 p.m. ET on Monday.

5 reasons Clemson gets a Labor Day win over Duke

Here are five reasons why the Tigers should handle business on the road against the Blue Devils.

We are just a day away from the start of the Clemson 2023 football season as the Tigers head to Durham to face a Duke Blue Devils team that has a great head coach in Mike Elko and a talented quarterback in Riley Leonard.

In years past, Duke would be of little worry for a program like Clemson, but this is not the same Blue Devils team we’ve seen in previous years. There is serious talent on this Duke roster, including future NFL talent.

Even so, this is a matchup that No.9 Clemson should win as the Tigers are currently two score favorites. Like Vegas, we, too, expect a win for the Tigers in this Labor Day ACC matchup.

Here are five reasons Clemson will walk away with a win over Duke in their season opener.Â
