Patriots QB Drake Maye reveals if he recruited players at Pro Bowl

Drake Maye did more than just play in the Pro Bowl

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye didn’t waste his Pro Bowl trip without at least taking the opportunity to potentially recruit players to Foxborough.

When appearing on “Up & Adams,” the former North Carolina standout claimed he spoke about Boston and the surrounding areas to some of the league’s best players at the Pro Bowl.

“I was definitely getting to know some of the guys, telling them a little bit about Boston, about Foxborough, about Gillette a little bit—some about the fan base,” said Maye. “It’s definitely time to get to know some guys and let them know that the Pats got some things to make some moves this offseason.”

Maye is looking to take the next step in his second year at quarterback, but he’ll need help on both sides of the ball to do it.

The Patriots are entering a crucial offseason with $130 million to spend in free agency and the No. 4 overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft. Maye was certainly doing his part, as he got to rub elbows with some of the best players in the NFL.

He’s a promising young star for the Patriots, and there’s hope that his presence will be a big reason for the team making it back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2021 season.

Patriots QB Drake Maye identifies traits of perfect wide receiver

Drake Maye lists three traits for his perfect wide receiver

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has a good idea of what his perfect No. 1 receiver would look like.

The rookie signal-caller got to throw to some of the best wide receivers in the NFL when participating in the Pro Bowl. That list of standout receivers includes Cincinnati Bengals star wideout Ja’Marr Chase and Jacksonville Jaguars’ Brian Thomas Jr.

Maye appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub on Super Bowl radio row and revealed his ideal wideout.

“I think guy that can win one-on-one, a guy that has feel in zone, and a guy that just wants the rock in his hand—wants the ball and wants to go make plays,” said Maye.

The Patriots could make a splash in free agency and land a playmaking wide receiver. They’ll be entering the offseason with the most salary cap space in the league and the No. 4 overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft.

A player like Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, who is set to test free agency this year, could potentially check every box Maye mentioned.

All-Pro CB Christian Gonzalez believes Patriots have ‘superstar’ QB

Christian Gonzalez believes Patriots QB Drake Maye is a superstar

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez has high hopes for quarterback Drake Maye as he enters his second season. Gonzalez even went as far as calling him a “superstar.”

That isn’t too big of a stretch for a quarterback who made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season.

“It all starts with Drake. Everybody seen what Drake can do. We got full faith in Drake,” admitted Gonzalez, when appearing on Pro Football Talk. “He’s a superstar. Being able, as a defense, to get more turnovers, to get back to the Patriot defense everybody knows, just getting the ball back. Because if we do that, and we get the ball back to Drake a lot more times, I feel like we could have won a lot more of those games.”

Gonzalez is a solid player in his own right, having been named an All-Pro this season. Maye vouched for Gonzalez to make the Pro Bowl back in December, and the two established a close relationship throughout the year.

Both Maye and Gonzalez figure to be cornerstone pieces for the Patriots organization.

There’s hope that Maye can develop and improve into one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL. Meanwhile, Gonzalez has already established himself as one of the elite defenders in the league. Having both players on the roster is a good start for a rebuilding Patriots team.

Drake Maye’s expected reaction to finally throwing to an All-Pro WR

Drake Maye admitted throwing to Bengals All-Pro WR Ja’Marr Chase was “pretty nice”

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye opened up about what it was like throwing to Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase at the Pro Bowl.

“Yeah, it is pretty nice. It is pretty nice,” Maye admitted, during an appearance on “Up & Adams.” “But hey, we got some guys in Foxborough that are doing their thing, so I gotta do a better job of getting them the rock.”

Maye had two touchdowns and two interceptions during the flag football game. He connected with Chase and fellow rookie, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., for the scores.

It was part of a whirlwind week for the UNC product, who made the most of his time at the annual event.

One has to wonder if the Patriots will spend money in the offseason to get their quarterback an elite receiver. Chase is still under contract, but his teammate, Tee Higgins, is expected to be the top free agent receiver on the market.

There’s at least a chance that Maye could be throwing to a Bengals receiver in New England in 2025.

Drake Maye names three ‘free agent’ wideouts he’d bring to Patriots

Drake Maye names three star receivers he’d love to “bring into the mix” in New England

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye sat down for an interview on “Up & Adams” and named three “free agent” star receivers he would like to “bring into the mix” in New England.

Kudos to host Kay Adams for phrasing the question in a way to keep the collusion crowd at bay.

Those players, who aren’t really free agents, were Houston Texans’ Nico Collins, Cincinnati Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase and Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson.

All three would be tremendous additions to the Patriots’ struggling wide receivers room. Collins is coming off a season that saw him record 68 catches for 1,006 yards and seven touchdowns.

Chase had a career-year with 127 catches for 1,708 yards and 17 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Jefferson did his part to excite the fans as well with 103 catches for 1,533 yards and 10 touchdowns.

“Ja’Marr is obviously a great answer,” said Maye. “Another receiver there that I met? Nico Collins was awesome. …Justin Jefferson, he’s an easy person to bring to Foxborough.”

Maye could certainly benefit from a top receiving weapon coming to the Patriots.

He got a taste of it at the Pro Bowl. We’ll see if New England can get him a No. 1 receiving target to benefit from more permanently.

Peyton Manning caught Drake Maye taking in advice from Pro Bowl QB

Drake Maye was caught chatting football with Baker Mayfield at the Pro Bowl

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye took in every moment of his Pro Bowl experience, and a Pro Football Hall of Famer was taking notice.

Peyton Manning appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and talked about Maye’s willingness to learn the game. Most notably, he said he noticed the young quarterback in a productive conversation with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield.

“Last night, I saw Drake Maye having a conversation with Baker Mayfield,” said Manning. “To me, there’s room for that in a young quarterback like Drake Maye learning how to be a pro, learning how to go through a coaching change, which Baker Mayfield has done several times. That’s the value.”

Maye showed tremendous promise as a rookie quarterback last season, and the Patriots are hopeful his talent will take a massive jump in 2025.

They’ve surrounded him with what some deem an all-star cast of coaches led by Mike Vrabel. It could be the necessary change for him to take things to the next level.

WATCH: Drake Maye throws dime in first Pro Bowl touchdown

Drake Maye dropped a dime to Ja’Marr Chase

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye had a busy week in Orlando at the Pro Bowl, and he concluded by playing in Sunday’s game.

The rookie made some highlight plays on the day, including dropping a dime pass to Cincinnati Bengals wideout Ja’Marr Chase for his first Pro Bowl touchdown.

It was a beautifully placed deep throw in the corner of the end zone for Chase to haul in for points. He also linked up with fellow rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. for another touchdown pass later in the game. That touchdown came on a dart over the middle of the field that fired right into Thomas’ hands.

There were some bumps in the road for Maye in the game considering he threw two interceptions. With that said, it was all in fun on a mostly laid-back flag football game featuring some of the best players from the NFC and AFC.

More than anything, it was an exciting experience for a young quarterback like Maye, who has the potential to be one of the top players in the NFL someday.

NFL legend Peyton Manning makes admission on Drake Maye’s talent

Peyton Manning admits Drake Maye’s arm talent and athletic ability jumps out

NFL legend Peyton Manning admitted that New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has the kind of arm talent and athletic ability that “jumps out at you.”

Manning and Maye are both in Orlando at the Pro Bowl. The Hall of Fame quarterback clearly liked what he saw from Maye in his rookie season with the Patriots. Despite the roster lacking offensive weapons, Maye still managed to shine for the Patriots.

And he never made excuses.

“He’s a natural leader, and then when you watch him throw, …his arm just jumps out at you and then his athletic ability,” said Manning. “You see, Drake is very accountable. When things go well, you see him giving credit to his receivers and linemen. When things don’t go well, you see him starting with himself.

“…I like guys that are honest and aren’t trying to hide from it. He owns it, and I think all of those things are going to serve him well.”

Maye is looking to build off a strong rookie season that saw him record 2,276 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He only started in 12 games for the Patriots behind a struggling offensive line.

The stage is set for Maye to have a strong sophomore campaign, especially if the Patriots put the right pieces around him. They’ll have the assets to do so in the offseason with the most money to spend in free agency and the No. 4 overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft.

Drake Maye reveals biggest positive about Patriots coach Mike Vrabel

Mike Vrabel’s experience is a huge plus for Patriots QB Drake Maye

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has already spoken to newly-hired coach Mike Vrabel.

The 22-year-old signal-caller is currently in Orlando for the Pro Bowl Games, and he spoke with SiriusXM about Vrabel taking over as head coach. According to Maye, one of the biggest positives about Vrabel is that he’s “been a head coach” and knows what it’s like.

“(Vrabel) reached out to me, we got on the phone,” Maye said, as transcribed by Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan. “He’s been awesome. Obviously a guy who has done it, played in the league, won a Super Bowl; you have a respect of what he’s done and seen what he’s done. I think the biggest thing is he’s been a head coach, and he knows what it’s like. So (I’m) excited to get up to New England and get things going.”

Former Patriots coach Jerod Mayo was a rookie head coach last season. So there were some stumbling blocks along the way as he worked hard to improve in that role.

There’s hope that the Patriots can benefit from a more experienced coach like Vrabel, who led the Tennessee Titans to three consecutive postseason appearances and an AFC Championship Game.

It will be exciting to see the Vrabel-Maye dynamic moving forward. Maye is looking to build off a solid rookie year, and Vrabel has the experience to help take the young quarterback’s talents to new heights.

Bills’ James Cook, Connor McGovern added to 2025 Pro Bowl

Bills’ James Cook, Connor McGovern added to 2025 Pro Bowl

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook and center Connor McGovern were added to the AFC’s Pro Bowl roster this week.

This is McGovern’s first Pro Bowl selection, while this is Cook’s second consecutive trip to the Pro Bowl.

Cook replaces the Baltimore Ravens’ Derrick Henry while McGovern replaces the Kansas City Chiefs’ Creed Humphry.

The two will join teammate Dion Dawkins, who was selected to his fourth Pro Bowl. Josh Allen opted not to participate in this year’s games, as did Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson. Russell Wilson and Drake Maye replaced them.

For the Bills, Cook had a breakout year. He tied a franchise record of 16 rushing touchdowns in a season. Even though his usage was down from last year, he accumulated over 1,250 all-purpose yards and 18 total touchdowns. He was a reliable option in the Bills backfield all season.

McGovern also proved reliable this season filling the shoes of former Bills center and team captain Mitch Morse. The Bills offensive line was one of the best in the NFL and allowed the least amount of sacks in the league.

You can catch Cook, McGovern, and Dawkins in the 2025 Pro Bowl at 3 p.m. EST on Sunday, February 2 on ESPN/ABC.
