Top Day 2 NFL draft prospects at positions of need for the Saints

The Saints took care of business in the first round of the NFL draft. They can keep the momentum going in Day 2 with these top prospects at position of need, via @RossJacksonNOLA:

After checking off wide receiver and left tackle, the New Orleans Saints have done a great job immediately addressing their need in the the 2022 NFL draft. Now, they have only one Day 2 selection, sitting at No. 49 after trading away their fourth round selection as a part of the package to move up for Ohio State wideout Chris Olave.

The Saints could take a moment at focus on defense, add another pass catcher, or potentially look at quarterback after only one was selected in the first round. As we examine the Saints’ remaining needs, here are the top prospects remaining from our own Dylan Sanders and his top-100 big board.

Watch: College highlights of Falcons rookie CB A.J. Terrell

The Atlanta Falcons may have found a replacement for Desmond Truant on the first day of the 2020 NFL Draft by selecting Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell.

The Atlanta Falcons may have found a replacement for Desmond Truant on the first day of the 2020 NFL Draft by selecting Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell.

In 2019, Terrell earned first-team All-ACC honors, making 39 tackles, two interceptions and breaking up seven passes. He’s a confident cover corner that has played in some big games over the past three years.

Check out some of the best moments of his final season at Clemson in the below tweet.

Denver Broncos draft results: View the team’s picks from each round

Who did the Denver Broncos select in the 2020 NFL Draft? View the team’s picks from each round here.

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway added 10 players to the team’s roster during the 2020 NFL Draft this weekend. Here’s a look at each of the team’s picks from the draft:

Round and Pick Player
Round 1, No. 15 WR Jerry Jeudy
Round 2, No. 46 WR K.J. Hamler
Round 3, No. 77 CB Michael Ojemudia
Round 3, No. 83 OL Lloyd Cushenberry
Round 3, No. 95 DL McTelvin Agim
Round 4, No. 118 TE Albert Okwuegbunam
Round 5, No. 178 LB Justin Strnad
Round 6, No. 181 OL Netane Muti
Roud 7, No. 252 WR Tyrie Cleveland
Round 7, No. 254 DE Derrek Tuszka

Jeudy and Hamler will likely become the team’s No. 2 and No. 3 wide receivers behind Pro Bowler Courtland Sutton. Ojemudia will probably compete for the CB3 job behind presumed starters A.J. Bouye and Bryce Callahan.

Cushenberry will “compete” for the center opening but it’s obvious that he is the favorite to win the job. Agim will join the defensive line rotation and Okwuegbunam will likely compete with Nick Vannett for TE2 duties.

Strnad will compete for rotational playing time on defense and contribute eon special teams. Muti will compete for one of the backup swing offensive linemen spots and Cleveland and Tuszka will compete for special teams roles.

After completing the draft, Elway will now begin signing undrafted free agents. We will be tracking all of the team’s UDFA signings here.

Day 3 mock draft: Bengals upgrade line in front of Joe Burrow in Rounds 4-7

Here’s an updated Cincinnati Bengals mock draft for Rounds 4-7 of the 2020 NFL draft.

The Cincinnati Bengals threw a bit of a curveball with the first pick of the second day of the draft. While many thought it would be an offensive tackle or perhaps a defensive lineman, Cincinnati chose to add a wide receiver for Joe Burrow. But it wasn’t Baylor WR Denzel Mims, who was regarded as the top receiver on the board. Instead, it was Clemson WR Tee Higgins.

They then came back in Round 3 and addressed the linebacker position with Logan Wilson of Wyoming, a tackling machine in college. So the interesting note is that they have not addressed the offensive line yet, especially considering Josh Jones fell all the way to No. 72 to the Arizona Cardinals.

So with all that in mind, let’s see what the Bengals can potentially do in the final day of the draft. Here’s a day three mock draft.

No. 107 – Prince Tega Wanogho, OT, Auburn

The Bengals find an offensive tackle that could have went early in Round 3 still available to begin Round 4. Wanogho can start as a swing tackle before eventually sliding into Bobby Hart’s spot at right tackle.

Best available prospects for the Bengals in Round 4

Here are the best prospects left heading into Day 3 of the 2020 NFL draft.

The Cincinnati Bengals enter Round 4 of the 2020 NFL draft on Saturday looking at another high-value pick likely addressed while also hitting a need.

With quarterback, wideout and linebacker out of the way, the Bengals are free to address either set of trenches or merely go after best player available.

These are the top options.

James Lynch, EDGE, Baylor

The Bengals should have an interest in any defensive lineman getting a comp to underrated Washington standout Matt Ioannidis.

Lynch, 6’4″ and 289 pounds, is a scheme-versatile sort of defender who can come in at 3-tech or 5-tech and dramatically boost a rotation. That’s the sort of thing the Bengals could use as insurance inside if Ryan Glasgow once again can’t stay healthy or Renell Wren doesn’t develop well.

The Bengals were interested enough to have a pre-draft interview with him.

Should the Bengals trade down in Round 2?

Should the Cincinnati Bengals move down in Round 2 of the 2020 NFL draft?

[jwplayer A29mqDLD-ThvAeFxT]

The Cincinnati Bengals could always trade out of the No. 33 pick to start the second round of the NFL draft on Friday night.

That would certainly be within their normal behavior as of late. And one could make the argument that with so many quality players falling out of the first round, the Bengals could comfortably move back and still get a guy they like.

But…this approach hurt them last year. Cincinnati moved back 10 spots in the second round, presumably because of guys they liked remaining on the board and were almost universally panned for taking tight end Drew Sample.

For what it’s worth, there are a ton of quality options for the Bengals to consider at No. 33 on Friday night. They are reportedly looking hard at two specific players.

It’s all going to come down to the board. If the Bengals have first-round grades on say, two players, they probably won’t move. But if they feel they can jump five to 10 spots and still get a starter while picking up more picks, they’ll explore it.

Our verdict? It’s not worth taking the chance on missing out on a potential starter for the sake of adding a few more picks later. Guarantee an upgrade to start the round, then think about moving around later in the night.

Falcons rookie A.J. Terrell is ‘ready to get to work’

Speaking with the team via video chat, Terrell discussed his excitement in joining his hometown team.

Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell will have a lot on his plate as a rookie, but the Clemson standout is used to playing under the bright lights. Not everyone agrees with the team’s decision to draft Terrell at pick No. 16. Ultimately, he will be judged by how he performs on the field, not by Mel Kiper’s draft-day evaluation.

Speaking with Atlanta via video chat, Terrell discussed his excitement in joining his hometown team. Watch below as the Falcons’ rookie says he’s ready to get to work in Atlanta:

Falcons get bad grades from draft analysts after picking A.J. Terrell

While the Falcons desperately needed an upgrade at the defensive back position, not everyone agrees on team’s decision to grab Terrell with pick No. 16.

The Falcons found their replacement for Desmond Trufant after selecting Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell in the first round. While the team desperately needed an upgrade at the defensive back position, not everyone agrees on Atlanta’s decision to grab Terrell with pick No. 16.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. is extremely down on the pick, saying the Falcons “reached for a need” as tweeted by Vaughn McClure below:

Touchdown Wire’s Luke Easterling expressed similar sentiments in his first-round draft grades, giving the Falcons a “D” for picking Terrell:

The first big reach of the first round, Atlanta wanted a corner badly, but they passed up a handful of prospects far more worthy of being selected in the top half of the first round.

Every year, analysts jump all over certain teams for “reaching”, while others are praised for getting perceived value with their picks. The 2020 NFL Draft has been a unique experience thus far. Considering the limitations due to the COVID-19 outbreak, there was less information available, particularly when it comes to medical evaluations.

It’s important to remember that draft grades are essentially meaningless and we won’t know what the Falcons have in Terrell until he actually gets on the field.

Day 2 mock draft: Bengals land upgrades around Joe Burrow in Rounds 2-3

Here’s an updated Cincinnati Bengals mock draft for Rounds 2-3 of the 2020 NFL draft.

The Cincinnati Bengals did the obvious with Joe Burrow. Now it’s all about upgrading around him.

The 2020 NFL draft continues Friday, where the Bengals will again hold the top pick. Unfortunately, some top names at positions like linebacker didn’t fall.

Fortunately, other first-round talents did.

Taking a value and need slant, here’s a mock for Rounds 2 and 3.

Round 2 (33): Josh Jones, OT, Houston

Most onlookers would probably agree Josh Jones doesn’t fall to the second round most years. But the 2020 class was oddly strong at tackle, hence six coming off the board in Round 1.

That leaves Jones to the Bengals — and he’s probably the lone reason they shouldn’t trade down.

Jones has left tackle potential but the value with him in Cincinnati is he can probably carve out a long-term role as a starter anywhere, including guard. He’s pro-ready at 6’5″ and 319 pounds.

Lance Zierlein put it best: “Early tape would suggest that Jones is a raw, developmental project in need of substantial technique work, but tape study later in the season suggests a level of improvement that creates additional intrigue for the long, athletic left tackle prospect.”

Lucking into a Round 1-caliber tackle like Jones while still trying to right the longstanding wrongs along the offensive line is as good as it gets.
