2023 NFL draft: Updated 1st-round order after Week 15

Here’s what the first-round order would look like if the 2023 NFL draft took place after Week 15

Only three weeks remain in the 2022 NFL regular season, which means the top of the 2023 NFL draft order is coming into clearer focus.

The one-win Houston Texans still have a two-game lead on the rest of the league for the No. 1 overall pick, but there’s still plenty of time for movement throughout the rest of the top 10 selections.

Broncos’ first-round pick in 2023 keeps getting worse

If the season ended today, the first-round pick the Broncos traded to Seattle would be No. 2 overall.

The Denver Broncos have a first-round pick to use in the 2023 NFL draft thanks to the Bradley Chubb trade, but it won’t be an early pick.

Denver acquired the San Francisco 49ers’ first-round pick through the Miami Dolphins in exchange for Chubb. A pick late in the first round is obviously better than no first-round pick at all, but San Francisco’s hot streak is an unfortunate development for the Broncos.

The 49ers have won six-straight games and the team has shown no signs of slowing down even after turning to third-string quarterback Brock Purdy. We won’t know exactly where San Francisco’s pick will be in the first round until after their playoff run is complete, but it’s on track to be in the 20th-32nd range.

Meanwhile, Denver’s original first-round pick that was shipped to the Seattle Seahawks as part of the Russell Wilson trade is on pace to end up being 2nd overall. Only the Houston Texans (1-11-1) have a worse record than the Broncos (3-10), ensuring that Seattle will get a premium pick in 2023.

Right now, Denver is scheduled to have six picks to use in April.

2023 NFL draft: Updated 1st-round order after Week 14

Here’s what the first-round order would look like if the 2023 NFL draft took place after Week 14

Only four weeks remain in the 2022 NFL regular season, and while plenty of teams still have hopes of making a late push for the postseason, teams at the bottom of the standings have their sights set on draft position.

The one-win Houston Texans still have a two-game lead on the rest of the league for next year’s No. 1 overall pick, and three of the next four picks on the current list belong to teams that acquired them previously via trade.

There’s still plenty that could change over the next month, but here’s what the first-round order would look like if the 2023 NFL draft took place after Week 14 (via Tankathon):

*NOTE: The Miami Dolphins forfeited their first-round pick in next year’s draft as a result of the NFL’s investigation into tampering violations.

Broncos’ order of picks in 2023 NFL draft

Broncos GM George Paton has three picks to use in the first three rounds of the 2023 NFL draft.

The Denver Broncos do not have their own first- or second-round picks in the 2023 NFL draft after trading them to the Seattle Seahawks as part of the Russell Wilson trade earlier this year, but they do have three total picks in the first three rounds.

Broncos general manager George Paton got the team back into the first round in November when he traded outside linebacker Bradley Chubb to the Miami Dolphins. Denver acquired the San Francisco 49ers’ first-round pick from the Dolphins in that deal, and the Broncos also have an extra third-round pick from a draft-day trade with the Indianapolis Colts in 2021.

So where does that leave the team’s draft order? Here’s a look ahead at Denver’s order of picks for 2023:

Round 1: via 49ers through Dolphins (Bradley Chubb trade)
Round 3: own pick

Round 3: via Colts (2022 draft trade)
Round 4: own pick
Round 5: own pick
Round 6: via Steelers (Malik Reed trade)

Paton could make additional trades in 2023, perhaps even during the draft, to acquire more picks. The Broncos currently have six picks to use in the spring and Paton ideally likes to go into a draft with ten selections.

Jaguars are 7th in 2023 NFL Draft order after Week 13

The Jaguars’ lengthy streak of top 10 draft picks is getting closer to continuing.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are inching closer to yet another offseason with a top 10 pick in the NFL Draft.

With five weeks left to play, the Jaguars are currently seventh in the 2023 NFL Draft order. Jacksonville is third out of the four teams with 4-8 records when it comes to the strength of schedule tiebreaker.

After the Jaguars’ Week 13 loss to the Detroit Lions, the draft order currently looks like this (strength of schedule in parentheses):

  1. Houston Texans: 1-10-1 (.505)
  2. Chicago Bears: 3-10 (.575)
  3. Seattle Seahawks (via Denver Broncos): 3-9 (.478)
  4. Detroit Lions (via Los Angeles Rams): 3-9 (.498)
  5. Carolina Panthers: 4-8 (.449)
  6. Philadelphia Eagles (via New Orleans Saints): 4-8 (.500)
  7. Jacksonville Jaguars: 4-8 (.502)
  8. Arizona Cardinals: 4-8 (.510)
  9. Indianapolis Colts: 4-8-1 (.507)
  10. Atlanta Falcons: 5-8 (.444)

The in front of the Jaguars will change after the Monday night contest between the Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If New Orleans wins, Jacksonville will jump ahead of the Eagles and take ownership of the sixth pick. If Tampa Bay wins, the Eagles will climb one spot higher to fifth.

The Jaguars have no shortage of needs with wide receiver and tight end among the problem areas. However, after the rout on Sunday, it’s hard to imagine Jacksonville isn’t plotting the ways it can improve its defense in the offseason.

Colts hold No. 14 pick in 2023 NFL draft entering Week 13

The Colts currently hold the No. 14 pick in the 2023 NFL draft entering Week 13.

The Indianapolis Colts are trending downward with just over a month left in the 2022 regular season, which means the focus will slowly begin to shift to the 2023 NFL draft.

Coming off a Week 12 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at home, there is essentially no hope for a late-season run. Though they aren’t mathematically eliminated yet, it would be disingenuous to believe a magical run is on the horizon.

Entering Week 13, the Colts currently hold the No. 14 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

Things may only get more difficult for the Colts in the coming weeks, which would be good for their draft capital.

They are on the road against the Dallas Cowboys (8-3) in Week 13 before their bye in Week 14. Then, they visit the Minnesota Vikings (9-2) in Week 15 before hosting the Los Angeles Chargers (6-5) and visiting the New York Giants (7-4) in Weeks 16 and 17, respectively.

There are massive holes across this roster, starting with the most important position of all at quarterback. It will be interesting to see what the front office does, especially since Chris Ballard’s days as general manager may be numbered.

We’ll see just where the Colts are at in the draft order when the season ends in January, but there’s a good chance a top-10 pick is coming to the Circle City.

2023 NFL draft: Updated 1st-round order after Week 12

Here’s what the first-round order would look like if the 2023 NFL draft took place after Week 12

Another week of NFL action is in the books, which means we’re one week closer to locking in the top of next year’s draft order.

If you’re a fan of the Los Angeles Rams or Denver Broncos, you might want to look away.

Both of those teams have already traded away their first-round picks in 2023, and thanks to the dismal seasons they’re enduring right now, those selections currently sit among the top four, much to the delight of the Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks.

The Houston Texan still have a comfortable lead for the No. 1 overall pick, but there’s still plenty of time for things to change down the stretch.

Here’s what the first-round order would look like if the 2023 NFL draft took place after Week 12 action (via Tankathon):

*NOTE: The Miami Dolphins forfeited their first-round pick in next year’s draft as a result of the NFL’s investigation into tampering violations.

2023 NFL Draft order: Jaguars behind other 3-win teams

The Jaguars hope to salvage their season, but if they can’t, they’re in line for a nice draft pick.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are hopeful they can turn around their 3-7 season with a string of wins to end the year, but there’s always a nice consolation prize that comes with a losing record: a top draft pick.

Unfortunately for the Jaguars, the strength of schedule tiebreaker doesn’t look like it’ll be in their favor. Thanks to a schedule that includes games against NFC East teams — all of which have winning records — and plenty of other teams above .500, the Jaguars are currently last of the eight teams with three wins.

With seven weeks left in the season, the 2023 NFL Draft order looks like this (strength of schedule in parentheses):

  1. Houston Texans: 1-8-1 (.517)
  2. Carolina Panthers: 3-8 (.457)
  3. Chicago Bears: 3-8 (.572)
  4. Las Vegas Raiders: 3-7 (.462)
  5. Seattle Seahawks (via Denver Broncos): 3-7 (.480)
  6. Detroit Lions (via Los Angeles Rams): 3-7 (.489)
  7. Houston Texans (via Cleveland Browns): 3-7 (.503)
  8. Pittsburgh Steelers: 3-7 (.526)
  9. Jacksonville Jaguars: 3-7 (.526)
  10. Philadelphia Eagles (via New Orleans Saints): 4-7 (.480)
  11. Arizona Cardinals: 4-7 (.514)
  12. Green Bay Packers: 4-7 (.578)
  13. Detroit Lions: 4-6 (.551)
  14. Indianapolis Colts: 4-6-1 (.515)
  15. Atlanta Falcons: 5-6 (.429)
  16. Los Angeles Chargers: 5-5 (.451)
  17. Washington Commanders: 6-5 (.546)
  18. New York Jets: 6-4 (.523)

The Jaguars have picked in the top 10 in 14 of the last 15 drafts. More recently, Jacksonville became the second team in NFL history to pick No. 1 overall in back-to-back drafts.

Broncos’ order of picks for 2023 NFL draft

The Broncos currently have six picks to use in the 2023 NFL draft.

After trading outside linebacker Bradley Chubb to the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos general manager George Paton now has six picks to use in the 2023 NFL draft, including a trio of selections in the first three rounds.

Here’s a look at the Broncos’ order of picks for next year’s draft.

Round 1: via 49ers through Dolphins (Bradley Chubb trade)
Round 3: own pick

Round 3: via Colts (2022 draft trade)
Round 4: own pick
Round 5: own pick
Round 6: via Steelers (Malik Reed trade)

Denver’s original first- and second-round picks were traded to the Seahawks as part of the trade for quarterback Russell Wilson in March.

The Broncos’ original sixth-round pick was traded to the Lions in 2021 as part of the trade that sent wide receiver Trinity Benson to Detroit.

Denver made multiple trades involving seventh-round picks over the last two years. It’s unclear if the team’s original seventh-rounder went to the 49ers in exchange for linebacker Jonas Griffith or to the Steelers as part of the Reed trade. The Broncos had an extra seventh-round pick from the Vikings from a trade for linebacker Stephen Weatherly in 2021. Denver’s original pick and that Minnesota pick have both been traded away.

The 2023 NFL draft will be held in Kansas City from April 27-29.

2023 NFL draft: Updated 1st-round order after Week 9

See what the first-round order would look like if the 2023 NFL draft took place after Week 9

We’ve crossed the halfway point of the 2022 NFL regular season, and there are already a handful of teams that have their fans looking at mock drafts instead of hoping for a postseason berth.

The Houston Texans currently lead the race for next year’s No. 1 overall pick as the only one-win team remaining in the league, but four teams are close behind with only two victories each to their credit.

As we look ahead to the second half of the regular season, here’s what the first-round order would look like if the 2023 NFL draft took place after Week 9 results (via Tankathon):

*NOTE: The Miami Dolphins forfeited their first-round pick in next year’s draft as a result of the NFL’s investigation into tampering violations.
