Chicago knows how to do Christmas. There’s a parade and light festival. There’s a Gourmet Dinner Cruise on Christmas Eve. You can see the holiday windows at Macy’s. And there’s the Christkindlmarket.
We managed to get there on the very first day this year, when crowds were relatively small and vendors were excited to be set up and open. The food is the star—although the ornaments and nutcrackers are fun competition. Here are our recommendations:

The Strudel. Any flavor works, but apple is traditional. Cherry. Almond apricot. Cheese. You can’t go wrong, or get a variety box.

The Hot Cider. It doesn’t matter what stand, really, but we liked the one from the German Brothers stand. (They were also selling the best German pancakes.) The cider was less sweet and hotter than others we sampled, but, really, they are all good. You can get yours in a paper cup or one of the three collectible mugs they sell to commemorate the market.

The German Pancakes. We like them with applesauce, simple and flavorful, but you can also get sour cream or other combos. Slightly crispy, completely tasty. Don’t forget the cider.

The Raclette Sandwich. Oh, you have to see it to believe it. The baguette. The hot, melty cheese. The delight in people’s faces as they dig in.

The Donor Kebab. You’ll get it with plenty of seasoned rotisserie meat, onions, cucumbers and tzatziki sauce, all piled into a large wrap. We first tasted this in Germany, and the market stand, Donermen, does it justice.

Moral of the story? Get to Chicago to find your Christmas spirit. It’s an easy train trip on the Blue Line; get off at Washington and you are there!

Best sights and sounds from Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII victory parade

Check out all the best sights and sounds from the #Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII victory parade in Kansas City on Wednesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions once more, and fans in western Missouri turned out in full force for the team’s victory parade on Wednesday as celebrations of their latest championship commenced in earnest.

Few occasions in Kansas City are more festive than the immense gatherings to celebrate newly won titles, and Wednesday’s parade was no different.

From the raucous cheers of the Chiefs’ faithful fans to the antics of the team’s players who joyously passed around the Lombardi Trophy while traversing the throngs of parade attendees in downtown Kansas City in massive double-decker buses.

Pictures and videos of the parade flooded social media on Wednesday as fans in attendance documented their experience of celebrating the Chiefs’ back-to-back Super Bowl championships.

Check out some of the top sights and sounds from the parade below to get a glimpse of the massive celebration that occurred downtown on Wednesday morning.

LOOK: Union Station lit up overnight for Red Wednesday

Union Station was lit up in #Chiefs red overnight to celebrate the start of Kansas City’s 2023 season.

The Kansas City Chiefs are among the most accomplished teams in the NFL, and with Patrick Mahomes under center, should have a good chance to beat the Detroit Lions on Thursday in the first game of the 2023 regular season.

In keeping with tradition, Kansas City will adorn itself in all nature of red on Wednesday ahead of the Chiefs’ highly anticipated Week 1 matchup. Though the pseudo-holiday is usually observed on Friday ahead of the team’s usual Sunday kickoffs, fans in Western Missouri are making an exception to the rule given the primetime mid-week matchup.

As such, Union Station in downtown Kansas City was lit up in red on Tuesday night to celebrate the occasion, which produced a particularly stunning picture that was featured by the Chiefs’ social media team.

This perfectly set scene will be captivating for all who drive by or otherwise observe the nearly century-old building overnight and should be a good omen for the Chiefs as they head into their tilt against Detroit without Chris Jones.
