Oregon Ducks jump into top 10 of 2025 recruiting rankings with latest addition

The addition of Douglas Utu puts Oregon back in the top 10 of the 2025 national recruiting rankings.

The recruiting trail has been understandably quiet over the past several weeks as the college football season began, but Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks made a major splash on Thursday morning.

As many Oregon fans were waking up and getting their coffee, Lanning sent out his famous duck emoji on X, formerly Twitter, with the words “Good morning.”

His team had just landed a massive commitment from four-star offensive lineman Douglas Utu, flipping him from the Tennessee Volunteers. Utu is rated on the 247Sports composite as the No. 69 overall player in the 2025 class and the No. 2 interior offensive lineman. He stands 6 feet, 4 inches and 317 pounds, and he projects to play tackle at the college level.

With the addition of Utu, the Ducks jumped back into the top 10 of the 2025 national recruiting rankings: No. 8. Oregon has three five-star commitments: wide receiver Dakorien Moore, wide receiver Dallas Wilson and safety Trey McNutt.

Utu is the fifth-highest-rated player in the class for the Ducks, behind the trio of five-stars and four-star cornerback Dorian Brew. Oregon has several other prospects remaining on the board they hope to get committed before the early signing period in December, so don’t expect the duck emojis to stop rolling from coach Lanning.

Oregon Ducks land massive flip of 4-star OT Douglas Utu from Tennessee Volunteers

Big-time recruiting flip for the Oregon Ducks, landing 4-star OL Douglas Utu over the Tennessee Volunteers.

The Oregon Ducks got a significant win on the recruiting trail this week, landing a massive commitment flip from 4-star offensive lineman Douglas Utu.

The Bishop Gorman star was previously committed to the Tennessee Volunteers, but he announced on TK that he would be joining the Ducks instead. The 247Sports Composite rates Utu as the No. 69 overall player in the 2025 class, and the No. 2 IOL.

Despite his listing as an interior offensive lineman, Utu is expected to play tackle at the next level. With a 6-foot-4, 320-pound frame, the move to the outside makes sense for this dynamic blue-chip pass-blocker.

The flip is important for Oregon as it tries to garner some momentum as we head deeper into the season and start hurtling toward the early signing period in December. The Ducks have a top-15 class in the nation right now with a handful of 5-star players, but they’re working to flip several other top-ranked prospects.

Utu now joins an offensive line recruiting class that is taking shape. He joins 4-star IOL Ziyarre Addison, 4-star OT Alai Kalaniuvalu — another Bishop Gorman player — and 3-star OT Demetri Manning.

Michigan football makes top group for five-star offensive lineman

#Michigan is in good shape here. #GoBlue

Michigan football is kicking off a month of big weekend visits with officials starting for 2025 recruits. Among them is a five-star in 2025 Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman interior offensive lineman Douglas Utu.

Utu is officially visiting along with another five-star, his high school teammate, wide receiver Derek Meadows. Both ESPN and Rivals have designated the ultra-elite status upon Utu by placing him as the No. 11 and No. 8 player in the country, respectively.

And, on the day of his official visit, the Wolverines got some good news as Utu revealed that Michigan has made his top six, along with Washington, Nebraska, Alabama, Oregon, and Tennessee.

It’s thought to be a Michigan and Washington battle for Utu’s services at this juncture, but there’s a long way to go. He’s already visited Seattle but has an upcoming visit to Tuscaloosa to see the Crimson Tide next weekend.

As of current, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine indicates that Michigan will be his eventual school of choice, with a 31.2% chance he ends up being a Wolverine. At the moment, we have included Utu in the 2025 class in our latest best guess list.
