Bellator has touched down in Washington state for the first time, and a former welterweieght champion is at the top of the bill.

Bellator 283 takes place Friday at Emerald Queen Casino in Tacomma, Wash. The main card airs on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, former welterweight titleholder [autotag]Douglas Lima[/autotag] (32-10 MMA, 14-6 BMMA) takes on rising standout [autotag]Jason Jackson[/autotag] (15-4 MMA, 6-1 BMMA). Jackson nearly is a 2-1 favorite at Tipico Sportsbook; the comeback on Lima is +145. But it’s not a blowout with our 11 editors, writers, radio hosts and videographers, who have Jackson with the slimmest possible 6-5 lead in the picks.

In the lightweight co-feature, [autotag]Tofiq Musayev[/autotag] (19-4 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) makes his promotional debut against [autotag]Sidney Outlaw[/autotag] (16-4 MMA, 3-1 BMMA). Musayev is a -160 favorite and has a 7-4 edge from our staff members.

Also on the main card, [autotag]Usman Nurmagomedov[/autotag] (14-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) is a huge -900 favorite at lightweight against [autotag]Chris Gonzalez[/autotag] (7-1 MMA, 6-1 BMMA), and he’s one of two unanimous picks on the main card.

It’s a close one from a betting perspective in the welterweight fight between [autotag]Mukhamed Berkhamov[/autotag] (15-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) and [autotag]Lorenz Larkin[/autotag] (24-7 MMA, 6-2 BMMA). Berkhamov is a -155 favorite, but Larkin has a big 9-2 led from our staff pickers.

And to open the main card, [autotag]Davion Franklin[/autotag] (5-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) is a -260 favorite against [autotag]Marcelo Golm[/autotag] (9-3 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) at heavyweight, and he’s our second unanimous pick at 11-0.

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Lima (58 percent), Musayev (60 percent), Nurmagomedov (91 percent), Larkin (51 percent), and Franklin (77 percent) are the choices.

Check out all the picks above.

Bellator 281 loses Douglas Lima vs. Jason Jackson co-main event

A little over a month away, Bellator 281 has taken a significant hit.

A little over a month away, Bellator 281 has taken a significant hit.

A pivotal welterweight clash between former champion [autotag]Douglas Lima[/autotag] and surging contender [autotag]Jason Jackson[/autotag] is off the May 13 event at OVO Arena Wembley. The fight, which was slated as the Bellator 281 co-main event, will be rescheduled.

A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the news Sunday to MMA Junkie following an initial report from Marcel Dorff. No reason for the cancellation was given.

Lima, 34, currently is in the roughest patch of his career, having lost three consecutive fights for the first time in his career. After recapturing the welterweight title in the Bellator grand prix final against Rory MacDonald in October 2019, Lima (32-10 MMA, 14-6 BMMA) failed in his bid to become a dual champion when he was defeated by Gegard Mousasi in a vacant middleweight title bout at Bellator 250. Lima then lost the 170-pound title to Yaroslav Amosov at Bellator 260, followed by a narrow split decision loss in his rematch against Michael Page this past October.

Jackson (15-4 MMA, 6-1 BMMA), 31, has won five fights in a row. The past three have come against former WEC and UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson, top contender Neiman Gracie and, most recently, Paul Daley at Bellator 260.

With the change, the Bellator 281 lineup includes:

  • Michael Page vs. Logan Storley – for interim welterweight title
  • Fabian Edwards vs. Lyoto Machida
  • Denise Kielholtz vs. Kana Watanabe
  • Paul Daley vs. Andrey Koreshkov
  • Daniel Weichel vs. Robert Whiteford
  • Alan Carlos vs. Charlie Ward
  • Simon Biyong vs. Luke Trainer
  • Alfie Davis vs. Tim Wilde
  • Kate Jackson vs. Elina Kallionidou
  • Oliver Enkamp vs. Mark Lemminger
  • Lanchana Green vs. Chiara Penco
  • Lee Chadwick vs. Maciej Rozanski
  • Andrew Fisher vs. Attila Korkmaz
  • Arunas Andriuskevicus vs. David Trallero

Bellator 267 results: Michael ‘Venom’ Page avenges prior defeat, outpoints Douglas Lima in rematch

At Bellator 267, “MVP” avenged his 2019 loss when he defeated Douglas Lima in a close fight.

LONDON – Knockdowns and wrist control proved crucial as England’s Michael “Venom” Page claimed a split-decision win over [autotag]Douglas Lima[/autotag] in their Bellator 267 rematch.
Page (20-1 MMA, 16-1 BMMA) dropped Lima (32-10 MMA, 14-6 BMMA) three times over the course of a tense three-round battle that saw both men sent to the canvas during their main event battle at the SSE Arena, Wembley.
Page opened up as relaxed as ever and dropped Lima with the first punch of the fight as the Wembley crowd roared its approval. Lima stalked Page around the cage, but Page immediately struck with another right hand that decked Lima for a second time.

With the crowd’s chants of “MVP!” ringing around the arena, Page continued to circle the outer reaches of the cage then, after making Lima swing and miss, connected with a spinning heel kick. Lima composed himself, then landed his first major offensive move of the fight as he shot in and took the Englishman to the mat.
Lima shunted Page against the cage and looked to posture up from inside Page’s guard. Page initially controlled Lima’s hands well to prevent the Brazilian from landing any offense, but Lima managed to eventually connect with a pair of powerful ground strikes.
Lima stood up and backed away, but Page had learned his lesson from the first fight and remained on the canvas and opted to fend off the former champion with his legs for the remainder of the round, rather than risk getting caught by Lima in the process of standing up. Round 2 started with Lima cuffing Page with a left hand, but Page stepped in and connected with a nasty leg kick that forced Lima to back away.
Page was back in his comfort zone as he made Lima miss with shots, then connected with a two-punch combination, finishing with a head-kick that narrowly missed its target. Lima continued to hold the center of the cage, and clipped Page as he looked to leap in with a big right hand. Page took the shot well, however, and returned to the outside once again.

A flying knee from Page missed its mark and Lima countered with a right hand as the Brazilian started to time the Englishman’s attacks. A solid leg kick, then an attempted head kick, from Lima gave Page a moment’s pause, but the Brit fired back with another right hand that sent Lima to the canvas for the third time in the fight.
The final round started with Page setting his range with a jab to the body as he bounced around the outside looking to strike. Lima closed the distance, then dropped Page with a left hook, but the Englishman scrambled his way out of trouble and back to his feet.
Page recomposed himself and, after a jumping switch kick fell narrowly short, connected with a solid right hand. But Lima kept the pressure on and continued to stalk Page around the cage, with his right hand getting ever closer to “MVP’s” chin. With just over two minutes remaining, Lima snatched a takedown, and Page hugged the Brazilian close to smother any offense from the Brazilian. However, Lima managed to free his hands and scored with a big ground strike before Page looked to connect with an up-kick.

Page continued to frustrate Lima with his wrist control off his back and, as the final seconds ticked down, Lima could manage only a solitary elbow for his efforts.
A bout that threatened a knockout finish ended up going all the way to the judges’ scorecards and, after a nervous wait, the London crowd erupted as Page was declared the split-decision winner with scores of 28-29, 29-28, 29-28 from the cageside judges.
During his post-fight interview, “MVP” made his case for a title shot, leaving the idea of a rubber match with Lima off the table for now.

Make no mistake: [autotag]Douglas Lima[/autotag] and [autotag]Michael Page[/autotag] should both be feeling pressure to win tonight at Bellator 267.

Bellator is back in London for the first time in almost two years tonight, and the promotion features a key rematch between former welterweight champion Lima and Page in the night’s headliner at The SSE Arena, Wembley.

It wasn’t that long ago that Lima was going for champ-champ status, but now he’s on a two-fight losing streak. Meanwhile, people always question Page’s legitimacy and point to his loss to Lima as proof that he’s not elite level. Both men believe a win here will have title shot implications, as well.

It’s clear the stakes are high for both men, but who needs this victory more? Our “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Mike Bohn, Nolan King and Brian Garcia weigh in with host John Morgan.
